Although Grubby had qualified for Code A after losing in the Up&Down Matches, he has forfeited his spot. In light of this, one extra player has received a Code A spot from the 2013 GSL Season 1 Code A Qualifiers.
Thank you.

Interesting matches: ByuL vs EffOrt HerO vs Yugioh Fantasy vs Zenio Yoda vs Tear Mvp vs soO Huk vs Samsung_Shine Yonghwa vs Reality ByuN vs Revival Center vs Seed (ro48 rematch lol) Flash vs Sola Rain vs MVPShine Haruhi vs NesTea Jaedong vs Lure
that's too bad, oh well I guess he wants to prepare for hots right now instead of trying to fight through code A which might as well be code S when you look at who is in there
Nestea avoided his worst matchup. Mvp on the other hand... Soo could very well knock him down to Code B for the 1st time. Stephano gets one of 2 fairly weak Ps in the next round, he got a lucky draw.
Holy crap, you're fast. I literally just saw John post this on twitter and came to put it up, only to see it already up and formatted. I tip my hat to you good sir.
haha seed vs. center rematch! also poor JD getting another MVP protoss in R1

i don't find that matchup particularly interesting tbh
without quite knowing who will be dropping down from the RO16 yet, here are my hopes for the direct code S advancements:
jaedong (probably will be effort) hero (could be baby if he stops sucking) creator (pretty tough group - could be yonghwa, leenock or even finale) fantasy tear (BAS GSL S2 winner) sniper no idea - could be anyone really killer rain (also a hard bracket with flash, ryung and keen) alive (if he stops sucking) crazy-hydra or maybe true shy or stephano
Round of 32 should be awesome. Round of 48 is only partly interesting because of drama and tears of players who fall right out of Code A again. Very few matchups you already anticipate to be awesome, but perhaps that's exactly why this round will deliver, you'll always be pleasantly surprised.
Mvp must win, come on, you can't just not be in GSL.
Flash Ryung Keen and Rain in the same bracket? Ugh. Great games I'm sure, but will be such a sad state of affairs because all of them would probably make Code S in other brackets.

well you do see koreans pulling out of foreign tourneys fairly often as well, often due to other commitments or not affording the travel, etc. of course GSL holds greater prestige than, say, DH or IEM or even IPL, but it's under similar circumstances

Koreans pulling out mostly dues to visa/travel problem. What are you gonna do about that? And you cant seriously compare the GSL with some weekend foreign tourneys that happen 87 times a month
Meanwhile, this is an issue of commitment, which is unacceptable. The most prestigious league that 1.invite undeserved player for ticket sales 2.invite undeserved player that shows zero commitment playing for fun. Really?

Rumors of late Feb, but nothing official from GOM. I'd wager it won't start until just after HotS is released.
GOM was checking with Blizzard to see if they could start on HotS early (end of this month), not sure if they worked it out yet or not, but we'll probably hear something once they do.
Would really like GOM to add a rule that a player that receives a seed can't in any circumstances forfeit their position after a seed. It's a joke when players accept then forfeit after losing their match/matches. + Show Spoiler +
I'm not talking about a full time ban on forfeit but at least one season. And if the players breaks it 5-6season ban or even cash penalty.

It sucks that players for forfeiting like this. But penalties might be hard to enforce/implement. Because you will have to make exceptions for like injuries, team disband/changes, etc. I think we just have to understand that things like this will happen. I mean it happens all the time for foreign events when some if the players are 'seeded in' (invited).

Wow. Ro48 is going to be an intense esf vs kespa showdown. Add in the tension of winner gets kicked totally out again and if either side take Ro48 in a landslide, it's not going to be pretty.

It's getting closer to HotS release and there aren't many tournaments running WoL.. If he'd rather focus and get a nice start in HotS its his decision. I bet he would have not forfeited his spot if it was an earlier season and there was no expansion in sight... So you sir are the fucking disgrace to the community along with the rest of you shitting on Grubby for dropping because he'd rather focus on the expansion that will be here really soon, instead of messing around in a game that will be irrelevant in the very near future. So fuck off and leave the guy alone I bet you'd do the same damn thing if you were in his position.

I think it's not a big deal if they forfeit like this, before the qualifiers. In the end, because Grubby forfeited, we have a more deserving, better player in his place. If he forfeited later which ended up in a walkover for someone, that would have been bad.

fuck expansion man, this is the GSL. you commit or you gtfo. Wanna tell the same thing to 23 newly qualified code A qualifiers? tell that to Huk maybe (#respect dude you are twice the man some of your fellas are)?
- Byul vs Effort: could be a top notch ZvZ - Hero vs Yugioh: will the king of Code A return? - Yoda vs Tear: overrated or underrated? We'll see. - Dream vs Maru: Young terrans fighting! - Byun vs Revival: Could be pretty good. - Center vs Seed: Should be pretty good. - Happy vs Killer: old school Sangho? Will it happen? - soo vs MVP: I'm one of the many who are worried about MVP here. why so butthurt about a quitter
IIRC, he was willing to commit. I recall him saying he didn't think he would get into Code S, but was going to work hard to do well in Code A, because he was planning to stay long term in Korea. That was his plan all along, not just "quit if I lose in the Up & Downs". I would assume he forfeited because of problems with being too far away from his family and wife, or some other reason still unknown to everyone (and probably out of his control). You're a moron for lynching him before even knowing the full story, you should at least wait for him to make his statement.
i was really looking forward to see the GSTL with grubby in it.. i guess not anymore but at the same time the GSTL has lost appeal to me; lame format and prize money is absolutely low considering the effort lol i prefer to watch the proleague for team based competition. grubby is still in GSTL afaik?
There hasn't been any statement about him not being in the GSTL yet. However, if he was going to stay in Korea to play in the GSTL, he would have probably just played in Code A as well. It doesn't make much sense to play one but not play on the other one, but I guess we'll see what happens. I'd expect him to make some sort of announcement soon regarding his participation in the GSL and GSTL.

if you're a fan, you should wait for an explanation rather than jumping to conclusions Either way, Grubby has to make a living of his progamming carrer I believe and GSL is not the best place to earn money (especially for a foreigner). Also, since he basically is his own team, I dunno if he even gets a salary~
potentially Hyun-Sniper rematch in RO24, would be cool :D, also center-seed rematch stephano got lucky that he's guarenteed to face 1 toss and the opponent in a potential ro24 is either a stronger toss (but his best mu), or someone who beat another zerg cuz that zerg threw the match. he should be able to make it. The flash/rain/keen/ryung bracket is stacked as hell - that could as well have been a though codeS group. And then MVPshine is thrown in as well and he's pretty good in codeA...

Shellshock, could you update the OP with the info posted by JunkkaGom (originally in the 49 players in Code A thread)? Because it seems a lot of people are mad at Grubby for forfeiting when it was caused by GOM moving the schedule and it conflicted with Grubby's.
Too bad Dream has to face Sniper Round 2. I'd like to see him advancing into Round 3 or maybe even into Code S. He showed such a good play at IEM Katowice.

Grubby is definitely Code A level right now, idk if he is Code S yet, but he could be. I saw him playing HotS esclusively on stream, so it wouldn't surprise me if he wants to get a jump on it and attempt to get Code S status that way. Yeah though to be fair, there's no easy way into Code S with how stacked everything is and especially the last round of Code A will have every player going up against an absolute monster from Code S. Considering the amount of amazing players HerO could face, this is a fairly decent bracket for him. Imagine if he got Rain or something. Taeja teamkill would really suck but HerO would be favored against Taeja. Against Bomber and Innovation might be even, Bomber would probably be harder. No idea how DRG's ZvP is atm, all their series' have been really close though.

well DRG would murder HerO but its almost impossible for DRG to go last in a group of Terrans.
Bomber would murder him as well, I checked through and Innovation would be the easiest one based by his TvP stats, still a scary player that prepares very well.
Brackets surely were not released just? I mean, that is 1 day for HuK (as an example) to practice his ZvP on "x" maps for a Code A straight knock out match tomorrow? They must of told players who they might of been playing before hand? Really bad organizing if they literally "just" knew. Thought GOM were better than that
I could see the former giants falling off the map in this Code A (Nestea/MVP). Unfortunately I don't see them sticking in much longer, as much as I'd like them to.

not sure here, he has a decent chance to play either TaeJa (teamkill) or Bomber (Protoss murderer)
Innovation is no pushover either lol, he gets to play a top Terran either way.
Severely underestimating HerO. Neither Bomber nor DRG would murder him. They might beat him, but never murder him.

Well, considering Zenio just went back home for a week or so I assume the players knew the dates before they went public.

I don't think MVP and Nestea are falling off map, the competition is greater that it was when they were winning GSLs ... Nestea got 4th i think it was at Iron Squid 2, he has been playing well.

i think both could beat him pretty soundly on their days.

now when thinking more about NesTea against aLive.
Iam even more worried about the fnatic Ace, as NesTea on his day was just rolling over MKP as seen at ISquid
Cant take his losses against Noblesse nor Taeja as a real measurement, he was probably just having an off-day.
Also Nestea getting a ZvZ against RorO or B4 for a Code S spot right after that would increase his chances to return even more, so he ll be motivated for sure

Nestea is looking shaky at best, I can't see him go far this season if he doesn't get back into shape. Same could be said of mvp, but he got his wrists to worry about. For mvp it's a question of his medical condition, but for nestea I think it's a more a matter of motivation or even ability.
Nestea just seemed off in his code S group. Yea he tends to do bad endgame but what he did there was beyond that. He also played great in Iron Squid 2 a bit before that. It's to early to drop him tbh. People said the same before when he went to code B and 2 seasons later (the earliest possible) he was back in code S.
I'm not going to be able to make any threads this week because of labs + tests + being sick so I'm going to need some other people to do it again. Sorry I haven't been as on the ball lately. I should still have time to make all the templates but I need someone to update them because I cant afford to be up at 4 am this week

Dude, you don't need to apologise, ever. You've done a lot of great things for the community recently and that's much appreciated. Thanks for the effort you put in; get better and good luck.
Byul is going to win over Effort due to his motivation to prove that he deserves to be on his new team
JD will lose to Lure, since it isn't JvZ
I think Hero will actually get past the King of Code A. While there's no doubt Yugioh performs in this tournament, I think the time off is going to end up hurting Yugioh will end up hurting him quite a bit
Fantasy is the clear favorite over Zenio if you examine each of their recent performances, but both are prone to swings in ability. I'm going to say Fantasy takes this one
Yoda will demolish Tear because he is my favorite player and if he doesn't win I will be super sad
While you can never count the Game Genie terran out, his recent performances lead me to believe he won't make it out of this Code A. soO takes this one.
Huk CAN play much better that he did in the round of 32. I've always liked Huk as a player, so I'm blindly taking him over Shine.
Haven't been keeping up too much with Proleague, but I still think that Yonghwa is the clear favorite in this matchup. Assuming no chokes, this is his match to take.
Byun and Revival are somewhat evenly matched, but I think Byun barely got edged out in Code S and is still a stronger player overall, so he takes this one
With Seed seeming to have regained his motivation for playing, and assuming he's maintained form after his tenure in Code B, I think he will crush anything Center throws at him.
Flash is quickly becoming a mainstay of Code A, and with Sola's only big win being his ZvZ over Stephano I would say Flash will take this one and is the easy favorite in this match-up.
Rain has also shown a return to form since his slump during Season 5 and should take the match over Shine.
I've never heard of Haruhi and while Nestea may be awful at ZvT for some reason, his vP is pretty good at the moment so I think Nestea takes this one easy.
wait, do I understand it right that there is the potential for a sniper - hyun rematch in which the loser has no chance of returning to code S this season?

The loser of that potential match would get another chance in the up/downs.

aaah, ok. that also eases the stress in other potential matchups, like for example flash vs rain.
So MVP is still playing? As much I do like MVP, I definitely think he should do what's best for his health (even if it means he has to retire).
Maybe he doesn't have to fully retire, maybe he could come back in LotV (which will take 3 years or so to come out, assuming it takes the same time as HotS did).
He'll be remembered as the best SC2 WoL player and the Terran hope during the days when Zerg and Protoss dominated everything else (which was a period of 5-6 months but that's still a decent amount of time).
Edit - Though if it isn't too bad, I think he should try 1-2 more seasons to try to get that 5 champion GSL trophy. Then he could retire.
If MVP still plays, I hope he does well in HotS and owns it up right away.
Oh my the Code a brackets have finally released My favorite is MVP vs soO that should be beast I have to say my least favorite is Hero vs Yugioh Root vs Liquid has got me feeling the woes

Lol, I don't remember this period... At least not in GSL. I think this season must be the one which is the most balanced, with a total of 23T, 23 P + 26Z in code A + code S. Usually there are much more T. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm not.

Anyway this time, race distribution is pretty good
race distribution in the first round doesnt matter, in particular not with gsl's slow up and down system. it took over half a year to weed out the cheesy loser terrans that got into code S during the first months of WoL when terran was indeed overpowered and the maps were favoring terrans as well. but since then, terrans have been on the decline.
whats much more representative is the racial distribution in the ro8 of the respective tournament. and there, zerg is currently dominating.
