SC2 itself needs something big, and to be a little critical, the subjective "quality" of this content, to me, doesn't exactly seem that this is some HUGE release of a brand new game. This is hopefully somethin more for our SC2
To me, blackstone sounds like it might have something to do with that artifact, possible terrans trying to harness it, and the XelNaga. We will see.

Themepark MMOs are a dying market, a good new sandbox MMO would be terrific though.

Think about it, though. MMOs give you the steadiest revenue stream from a franchise.

They once said in Activision-Blizzard press conference that they are going to make ONE free game and an MMO. We all know that MMO = Titan. So This will probably be the FREE GAME that they said they gonna make in the future.(They said that in 2011 Press Conference)

If anything, it should be UNIVERSE of StarCraft

Why does anyone think this is anything other than hype for HotS?

I think it is simply hype for the HotS campaign scenario. A kind of Dominion's Manhattan Project who is developing new weapons or stuff like that. Like other said, they have no reason to take the attention away from their new release.

"Themepark" MMOs don't fail because there's no market for it, they fail because they're competing in a market where one giant did it first and does it better. It's the same reason the iPad dominates the tablet market.
And what will inevitably defeat the iPad? The iPads 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. The next successful MMO will be created by the people who can increment on the success of the first one, the ones who have access to all the accomplishments that were praised and have a map of the pit falls that weren't.
If the 10 million people still playing WoW wanted something different they could have found it by now. What they want is something better and Blizzard is likely to be the one to give it to them.

I doubt this has been pointed out but... Dustin Browder loves rocks, and the name of this project is basically a rock. It has to be something Hots related IMO :p

The free game is Blizzard All Stars, and I don't think it will have lore behind it.

The reason people keeps playing wow is not because it's better, it's because they have invested hundreds of hours on their character while paying a monthly fee for the pleasure of doing so. You are deluding yourself if you think it's just about doing things better. And do you really think apple keeps their dominance with the ipad purely on performance?

There is a lore.
Two ancients on an alternate universe bring the greatest heroes of all dimensions and times to fight for pure amusement.

Well, Mr. Jack was drawing Starcraft art (and other games too!) for a long time before he got a job at Blizzard. So he drew this stuff before they hired him (and it was a large reason why they hired him!) and he definitely deserved the job!

That's not entirely true. I was quite tempted to buy Mists of Pandaria simply to create a monk and check out the new content. My previous characters have nothing to do with that.
