After three seasons of bracket style or group stage GSTL in 2012, GOM has decided to switch back to a round robin format. And you know what that means. Fantasy GSTL is back! Now once again, all of the couch confined commanders and theorycraft trained tacticians have a battlefield on which they may show their worth. In the past there have always been ways to prove your passion as a fan; now there's a way to prove your intelligence as one. Can you assemble the greatest inaugural HotS GSTL Fantasy team?
Week 11 Starters: ???
How to Play
You choose 8 pro-gamers and 1 pro-team that you think are good. They will score you points when they win.
You pick 3 players that you think are bad. They will lose you points when they win.
Players and teams can be traded between weeks for those valued less than them.
The fantasy owner with the most points at the end of the season will be declared the champion. The winner will receive an awesome special icon.
Notes for this Season (Important!)
Matches will be played in the bo7 all-kill format.
There will be 28 matches spread over 14 weeks of play.
Every week will have 2 matches, one on Friday and one on Saturday.
You will be able to trade after every week, meaning there will be 13 opportunities to trade.
The players you can pick are directly taken from the official GSTL roster submitted to GOM. Note that teams have a chance to change their rosters on the 25th of every month. Fantasy GSTL will not account for these changes and you won't be able to select the newer players.
Some players were not on the official rosters and they will not be added. Notable players missing include Happy, dreamertt, Ready, true, Galaxy, YoungSongE, Terius, Harrier, SoN, Tiger, Grubby, and Arthur. They may be added to the system when they're added to the roster, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to trade for them.
Following the trend of KeSPa players, some eSF players have also changed their names. + Show Spoiler +

It has been confirmed that Sting will not play by WW's manager even though he is on the official line-up. As such, you cannot trade Sting to your anti-team.
Main Team Selection To start, each Fantasy GSTL participant is given a total of 36 points* with which they may purchase players. With these points, a main team of eight pro-gamers (of which one is your team captain) and one pro-game team must be selected. The captain of your team is the same as a regular player with the exception that they cannot be traded.
The pro-gamers and pro-game teams have been assigned point values based on a variety of factors, including past GSTL performances, number of past GSTL appearances, performances in individual competitions, estimated likeliness to compete in the upcoming GSTL, etc. When pro-gamers and pro-game teams win games in the GSTL, the Fantasy owners who have purchased these players earn points. Detailed scoring rules are listed below.
*These points are only used for team selection. The points used for scoring are separate.
Anti Team Selection Each Fantasy GSTL participant is also given 13 points with which to assemble an “anti-team.” Three pro-gamers must be selected to be on the anti-team. The anti-team is identical to the regular team in all respects, except points scored by the anti-team count AGAINST the owner.
Player Scoring: Lineup Appearance: +1 Point* Game Win: +2 Points per win Game Loss: -1 Point 2-Game Streak Break: +1 Point** 3-Game Streak Break: +2 Points** Your Player's Team Wins: +1 Point***
Tie-breaks are decided by the team captain's score.
*Point given just for appearing in a match, regardless of win or loss. Only counts once, i.e. if MC goes 4-0, he still only gets 1 appearance point. **Given when a pro-gamer defeats a pro-gamer on the opposing team who is on a two or three game winning streak. Streaks do not carry over between matches; all streaks must occur in the same match. ***This counts for all players on the team's roster, even if they did not play in the match.
Between each week of games, you may trade players (swap a player for someone you don't have)
Player and team values will increase or decrease every week, depending on their performances.
Every player has a trade value, and you can only trade for players of lower value (higher value for anti-team)
You are limited to a maximum 2 Main Team and 1 Anti Team trades per week
Trades do not carry over from week to week if unused
Your team captain cannot be traded
Each time you trade, you will be assessed a -1 point trade tax
Basic Trading Strategy
Check the schedules each week! You'll want to know what teams are playing (and thus, which players are likely to appear)
Don't make trades just for sake of making trades, as they cost you trade tax points and you may get stuck with a player you don't want
The trade price formula takes into account number of matches remaining -- so players with more matches remaining will have higher prices
You must trade for players with less value, but try to minimize the value loss. For example, if you trade someone worth 30 for someone worth 20, next week you can only trade the 20 for someone less. It's much better to trade the 30 for someone worth 29.
To help you get into Fantasy GSTL, here's some advice from the previous winner of Fantasy GSTL.
Q: Can you introduce yourself, your BW/SC2 background, and your history with Fantasy Proleague/GSTL?
Hello this is mrbamboo. I used to play broodwar as a little kid with friends, nothing serious. Got into it a big more when Wings of Liberty came out and played some ladder. Wasn't that amazing at it, was Diamond league. Instantly got hooked on the GSL. Stayed up late every night during college to watch starcraft. Followed it pretty religiously. That's when Team Liquid last did their GSTL. I thought it would just be kind of fun. Did really well the first week of results, like top 50 or something. Then I got bit more serious about trading. Since I was already following GSL/GSTL religiously every night, I feel like I had a pretty good grasp on the players conditions. That and some luck, I ended up winning the first fantasy GSTL
Unfortunately GSTL changed formats afterwards and there wasn't fantasy for a long time until Proleague started recently. I haven't been doing as well in FPL, I think ranking around 200-300 in the last 2 rounds. I'm super excited for Fantasy GSTL to be back. Although now that I'm out of college and work full-time, haven't been able to follow all the games as I used to. That and with all the players transitioning into HoTS, will be tricky to say which player is in the best condition.
Q: What is it about Fantasy GSTL that makes it so different from Fantasy Proleague? I believe the schedule is the biggest difference. In proleague every team plays twice each week. That's 8 matches. Where as in GSTL there's only 2 matches a week. That means half the teams don't even play. This makes trading a lot different in fantasy between those two leagues. That, and of course totally different teams/players
Q: Last season, you did an absurd amount of trading to win. What was the rationale behind this and on what basis did you make these trades?
Well before each week you get to see the starting players in all kill format, and you've also learned more information about the teams and players from the previous weeks. The information you have the better choices you can make. Trading is to adjust your roster based on new information. I think it's pretty silly to say that we've learned nothing new through out the tournament. I think it's only natural to do a lot of trades. Even in Fantasy Proleague, I think I was top 50 in +trade value in the last two rounds. Also I like to gamble some times. So maybe that's just me haha.
Q: Before we get into specifics about this season, how in touch are you with the current SC2 scene?
I still follow most of the large tournaments. I haven't been following GSL as much due to it being so late at night. But most of the western tournaments like MLG, Dreamhack, IPL, IEM etc I definitely do still follow. And I'm usually up to date on the results even if I don't get to see the matches live. I'd say I'm reasonably in touch with the current status.
Q: Looking at values for this season's Fantasy GSTL, are there any players that scream out to you as obvious picks? What about easy anti-team picks?
I think most of the LGIM players are a bit on the cheap side. Ruin, Ragnarok, and Byul have all done well in the preseason and seems like they've been practicing HoTS longer than the GSL regulars who were still occupied with Wings of Liberty until recently. Also the IM Coach in the past has fairly regularly sent out B-teamers in GSTL. So I think they could see a lot of play.
I'm a bit partial to Jjakji. He's not exactly cheap at 7, but he's the only good players on NSH so he's likely to play every time and get a few kills. I think there are a lot of really talented 4 point terrans in the pool, we've got Heart, sC, dream, keen, sting, hack, and even mvp. I don't think mvp will get used a lot but the rest of them are all pretty good. Especially with Terran being really strong in HoTS. I could see any of them rack up some damage in GSTL.
As far as anti-team. I haven't seen any obvious picks yet. All the 6+ value players pretty much deserves their value, except maybe Ryung. I think he's a bit over valued at 6.
Q: Are there any traps you'd caution Fantasy players to stay away from?
Mostly pay attention to the schedule and keep track of which team is playing and who the starters are. With GSTL only half the tteams play each week, it's important to know this information to get the most out of your trades. Also keep updated on roster changes and traveling. We've got a few foreigners who are likely to miss some weeks due to other tournaments, and the same goes for high profile players like MC. Too many times I see people complain in the forums that they traded for so-and-so and they aren't even at the event.
Q: What about in terms of picking initial players? Are there any players that look deceptively good?
I think MMA and MKP are probably not great picks that people might think other wise. They've are both really strong terran players that are great at micro. So HoTS should help them right? They are also arguable the ace on their team so they'll see a lot of play. And you might be right, but I think it's a bit of a gamble. I think there are a lot of really great terrans out there right now and MKP and MMA are not a step above the others in HoTS yet. So for 6-7 points they are probably not worth it. Maybe add Gumiho to that list, too. Like MMA/MKP he's really good terran that should theoretically benefit from HoTS. But so far hasn't impressed with their transition to HoTS yet. Probably not worth the 7 points. Again, don't complain if they end up making tons of points, I think they are all have the potential to dominate, but aren't quite consistent to be worth the 6-7 valuation. I certainly am not suggestion to put them on your anti-team.
Q: Any other tips for prospective fantasy players?
Well maybe just one thing. Don't pick 1-2 point players unless absolutely necessary; they are a waste of a slot. they never see play, and are not worth enough to trade later. Sure you can get like a bunch of 7+ value players and get a bunch of worthless players. But past fantasy leagues are indications that about half the higher value players end up not making a ton of points. It's really the midrange 3-5 value players that exceed expectations that makes the biggest impact to your fantasy team.
Q: Anything else you want to say?
I hope I can start doing better in FPL. And really excited to soon have both FPL and FGSTL going at the same time. Gonna be a lot of fun.
Note: We just reset the whole system because I accidentally typo'd two players to not have point values. Please remake your team if you made it within the first 10 minutes of this post being up.
Time for me to give this a try and fail really hard. Looking forward to seeing how I will do, feeling like my anti-team is going to kill me but oh well it should be fun. xD
My first fantasy team! I did make picks based on my gut feelings rather than TLPD, watching vods or keeping an eye how well the lesser ranked players are faring in online cups and things like that.
WTF?? Those are all bad except Killer and Vampire. I'm really against players changing their IDs too. BTW Galaxy went to school and I think he's done playing.
Anyway, I have a question: Every week we will see only 4 teams in action, this means that every week I will have players on my roster that will not add anything to my team, right? I know I can change some of them, but I will always have some players doing nothing for my team every two weeks, or am I wrong?
Wow, every single one of those ID changes/new IDs is absolutely terrible (with the possible exception of Tible... I like the way it rolls off the tongue). I mean, "Barbie"? "Kangho"? "Billowy"??? And WTF is a "NAKSEO", or a "duckdeok", or a "KySarr"?
On March 20 2013 13:25 CuSToM wrote: lol how the hell is SortOf worth three points? how is he on the same point tier as Nestea? Ganzi? even TheBest...
Nestea splits time with... everybody. Ganzi hasn't been seen in game for like 6 months, and TheBest is well, TheBest.
SortOf will likely play a lot for a shorthanded NSH squad who is in a partnership and may feel obligated to trot out the foreigner and let him see what he can do.
All that said, Nestea's on my main and SortOf's on the anti :D
IM too stacked for players to be worthwhile methinks. (Bo7, only 4 players per round, and they're willing to start B teamers like Ruin when they have like 10 A teamers)
Edit: Prime a steal at two? I really want to take StarTale because I don't want to have conflicting interest, but a Bo7 all-kill really caters to Prime, who has 4 top-end streaky players (MKP, Creator, Byun, Maru) but no depth.

I'm blown away by the name changes. Swagger? Billowy? Barbie? Kangho? Someone needs to send a eSF-wide email about why changing your name is an awful idea.
Excited to draft a team for HotS though, don't have much to go off I feel trading is going to be super-important here, realising who is truly strong and has adapted the most.

All kill formats are terrible for fantasy leagues, really hard to choose players that will be out playing consistently. Then you have GSL which will make certain players even less likely to play in GSTL as the GSL develops. I'll make a team, but it is hard to have that consistency that PL provides during certain rounds.

And unlike PL you don't have set team line ups. Makes it more difficult, and it's totally different, but still exciting

I feel like MC is a very good pick cause of his vs. T performance at mlg

Only name change I've came to accept is Innovation, and that's only because he's so damn good that it makes us forget about bogus.

A few things: I think Terius has left Prime. Was YangSongE ever on the official roster for MVP anyway? lol Tiger is now in a managerial position within GOM, I think.
Argh. Life for captain seems so obvious, but he costs so much. I never thought I'd be putting Inca on a fantasy team, even if it is just because of the point budget.

Not necessarily. Compared to his individual leagues performance, he's hasn't done that well in Team Leagues

Well, it's going to be tricky to follow team MVP this season... almost everyone but DRG changed their name. Not happy with that at all.
On the other hand, it feels kind of odd doing a FPL with ESF players. Even though I'm 95% a GSL guy, and these are the players I've watched for the last two and half years, FPL still feels like a Kespa-player thing. It's going to be a lot of fun either way though.

Hmm, there were Fantasy GSTLs before Kespa switched to SC2 :D I see what you mean because I didn't take part in them back then and I started only with FPL, but the concept of Fantasy ESF is not new.
I haven't participated in a GSTL fantasy yet, but I've signed up anyways. Damn I know very little about eSF teams now (I mainly used to watch GSTL when SlayerS were still about).
Well I just spent about forty minutes scouring the liquipedia for player data and put together my team. Let see how this goes. Should be fun, and I'm quietly confident.
Of course that probably means I'll crash and burn but eh.
Didn't think there was a worse nickname to use than "Killer" but he sure proved me wrong! Seriously though, seems like none of the name changes were for the better, anyways... I'm thinking NSHS will surprise this GSTL, gogo!
I love Fantasy GSTL! I just signed up on TL because I wanted to play the first one and see how that got out of hand real fast. Now in the second one, I'm prepared to take over the world.
A lot of strange values here, whoever set those is not completely unbiased
Why did so many of them rename themselves? Sigh. Let's hope that is stays with one rename each, and doesn't become as bad as the Kespa guys. With Wooki, I have the feeling he almost changes his name on a weekly basis.
Nestea at 3 is an interesting option. I don't think he'll actually play that much, but team win points for LG-IM makes him a pretty safe pick for a moderate amount of points. Probably low risk!
Also, Squirtle-Yonghwa-First at 5 are all tempting Anti-team filler. They're all competing for playing time with each other, AND Seed and MC are there as well. While one unlucky all-kill will ruin it, probability suggests that due to limited playing time, it won't cause your anti team too much damage. I would go with Squirtle of the three, since he has Code S as well. (on that note, MC at 6 is very intriguing for anti as well, due to sharing playing time + the # of tourneys he might play in the following 14 weeks).
This should be a lot of fun, I've only been playing Fantasy ProLeague so far. It will be interesting to see how much different picking strategies work here but don't in FPL and vice versa. Sure hope I do better than I did with FPL round 3 hahaha!
I think sniper is a really good pickup. He is only 6 points compared to Lifes 9 and DRGs 8 points and he has had very good results in late WoL in the GSL. He has the strenght to play equal to the best players, and is one of the best zergs i can think off. I believe he is really underrated at this moment, so I made him my captain
I think it is kind of weird that Ruin has only played one game and is placed so high actually. Though he looked really good, I don't think he is worthy of a 3. Also, I didn't pick Life up because I feel that if you use tanks against him with a lot of drops he can't really dominate you. I can really see him losing to a lot of terrans.

then he'll just only make mutalisks and ruin them.

Yeah, thats like saying that so long as you can defend against Oracles you should be able to beat MC. You know. Like he only has one build / way of play.
I don't think Life will be worth his points anyway. I mean, he'll probably win most everything he plays, but ST is a deep team and in a regular season I imagine the coach will give a lot of the other players some play time. ST has the same problem as LG-IM for picking FPL players. With so many players, its not only hard to guess wins and streaks, but its even harder to guarentee playtime.
I mean someone has a weak vP, who do LG-IM send out? I'm actually tempted to avoid all LG-IM protoss players just based on the lack of a clear answer to that question alone. Unless I all-in on Ruin, but I have this feeling like I want to all-in on Lucky just based on Leenock's game vs Babyknight. Hmmmmmmmmmmm
So what happens if I win two FGSTLs, do I get two icons next to my name? :D
We have strangely similar teams, even down to Ryung and SortOf on the anti except I subbed MKP for jjakji (I know after what happened at MLG, but I think Prime wins more). Coming from the defending champion, your analysis is quite reassuring!
Quick question, how does one go about joining a group? I accidentally left the one I was put in(Protoss Users), and I don't know how to get back into it.
This is the best thing to ever happen to me. I've always wanted a fantasy sport that I could actually participate in! Fantasy Startcraft, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE??
All-right.. let's see if I got this right.. I think I got a really good team considering the high scores being laid out for certain WoL broodlord-infestor zergs.
Got a question regarding the anti-team. What is the potential benefit of putting a high ranked player on your anti team? Is it only that they are more likely to appear and thus have more chances to lose? :/ Should be something more I think, or?
Cause I picked Symbol on my anti-team, which might have been stupid ^.^ So why symbol, well he switched late, zerg functions very different in HotS and he´s been a fairly defensive zerg which seems problematic in HotS.
My main idea was however that he had a high "value" of 8 and I figured you would get more score for a loss then. Might been a little to quick on that conclusion :o
Otherwise I would say going for so-so zerg/protoss players in teams with small rosters should be solid pick for the AT.

The general strategy with anti team is to pick players who will either lose or not play much, by picking a high point player on your anti in Symbol you can pick two low point players that are unlikely to play in matches, It's risk vs reward where you bet on Symbol doing badly and in return you get to take two players on your anti that won't play much.
Anti team strategies are usually 1 high point player and 2 low or 3 " medium " players that will get some play time but aren't so good that they would generally all kill.

I actually do think that as weird as Life plays it is very one dimensional. He uses a lot of big counter attacks and aggressive mid game attacks. The only difference between him and other zergs is he knows how to micro his lings and banelings.........which tanks take care of.

Unless I all-in on Ruin, but I have this feeling like I want to all-in on Lucky just based on Leenock's game vs Babyknight. Hmmmmmmmmmmm
I actually do think that as weird as Life plays it is very one dimensional. He uses a lot of big counter attacks and aggressive mid game attacks. The only difference between him and other zergs is he knows how to micro his lings and banelings.........which tanks take care of.
Life is no robot. Or if he is, he's an adaptive robot, you know. He's not gonna bang his head against the wall vs a player who attempts to counter his style.
We really will find that that he is a Korean T-100 sent back from the future.
Hi guys. Anyone feel like playing no trade? We were 17 last time (and one of us cheated) but now no one has joined yet. Are you an honorable lady or gentlemen? Come join.
Well, I should have read the instructions more carefully but I had like 5 min to do the team so I probably would have f'd it up anyway. Now I have three ST players, which would seem bad now as I see exactly how the points are awarded. I have to say it's pretty dumb to give points if your player's (real life) team wins. Seems random. Otherwise the point system seems solid. I'm pretty sure I'll finish in the bottom part due to this and other poor/troll picks in but it's going to be fun none the less. I'll make sure to put more effort in next season. Go team captain Monster or whatever he is called now (LOL, also an accident but the time ran out)!
(seriously, if monster does well I'm going to declare myself an all-knowing, all-seeing oracle)

Sure, I will join. Picked my players very randomly. So I don't think I will get that much points. But still fun to see how far I can go without trade.

I believe Western Wolves have formed a partnership with NSHS for GSTL. SortOf is noted as playing with them, I think Sting was noted likewise in the same announcement too? I wonder if Arthur will be able to play later as a new WW pickup? EDIT: I can't actually find the official roster or an announcement. Let me know if you have it!

I lost points for IMByul and IMRagnarok being in the lineup despite them not actually being in there. If you check the VOD not every IM player was in the line up. My anti team consisted of byul, first and and ragnarok and only first was in the line up. Is this supposed to happen?

Yes. We're not going to check who was on the bench for each match.

So these players earn you minus points no matter what? And I thought I was smart for picking my entire anti team from the same team..

To be fair it's not a terrible idea. If at worst your anti-team members only lose 1 point every other week that's fine.
But yes, players from a winning team will always earn 1 point. It would be too unfair to choose members from larger teams otherwise. And then there could be debates if some unknown is on the bench.

So it looks like first place is just someone that put down a lot of LG-IM players, as expected for day 1.

There's something weird in the details concerning player values, perhaps someone could help me makes sense of this.
So from looking at the current players values, it seems that the basic trade value of a player is exactly 7 times his initial cost. For example, Life's current trade value is 9*7 = 63.
Now, a player's value is supposed to increase if he's doing well. For example, Squirtle's initial trade value was 7*5 = 35, but after winning 3 games today, his value increased to 47.53.
However, FxoTear (Hurricane) also won 2 points today (by appearing, winning one and losing one), so you'd expect his value to increase above his initial value (which also should have 7*5 = 35). However, his value right now seems have decreased, standing at 31.17.
Values always decrease over time since a player has fewer chances to appear and earn points, even if they do well. Now he has 6 chances to appear, 6*5 = 30, but he's valued at 31.17 due to his performance.
lol Reminds me of how I took a screenshot of the one time i was rank 1 in liquibets with the icon because it was the new liquibet season and i got the first one right. Tiebreaker for liquibets is post count xD

The formulas are always the same:
TrVal = cost * (matches_left / matches_overall) + (points_scored / magic_number) AdjTrVal = TrVal * matches_left

TrVal = cost * (matches_left / matches_overall) + (points_scored / magic_number) AdjTrVal = TrVal * matches_left
The two constants for this season of GSTL appear to be:
Magic number(x) is a constant predicting the number of points any given player will score. For example, Hurricane, a player that costs 5 points is predicted to score 5*x points.(in this case since x = 2.2, 5*x = 11). If he scores more than 11 points by the end of the season, he has overperformed. By using previous rounds as reference, we've determined that for all-kill bo7 formats, the magic number is around 2.2 and for proleague style bo7 formats, that number is 3. If you can still follow this, then there are certain simple conclusions you can draw.
For example, it can be easily seen that the average 1 point player should earn ~3.5 points every round because even though he probably won't play, his team will, on average, win half of his games. This outscores the 3 magic number for the proleague format and way outscores the 2.2 magic number for the all-kill format. Thus, especially in all-kill formats, it can actually be a good idea to pick one-point players.
Also note that because all-kill style team league is so volatile, players usually won't get too close to their actual predicted score.
I'm confused about the anti-team. I thought you got points if your anit-team player lost, just like you gain points if someone on your team wins, but this is not the case. I lost 1 point for Ruin because he's on my anti-team even though he lost his game. Doesn't it make sense to gain points if your anti-team loses? What else would be the point of having an anti-team? Just trying to pick players you think will never get played? That's boring.

Players get automatic +1 if the team they're on wins, regardless of whether or not they play, so if your anti-team's player's team wins the match, they 'earn' you -1 because points are reversed in anti-team.
lol, a LOT of people had Ryung and MMA in their anti team (especially MMA, which I really didn't understand). Quite a few people are going to be hurting after today.

I went zero points today and am actually cautiously optimistic I'll advance in rank. People who have Scarlett on their anti-team will also go -1.
You cannot earn points from your anti-team, only lose points if the players you have chosen earn any. It's basically the opposite of your main team; you want to choose players who will A: not play, B: lose when they do, and C: are not on a winning team.
I checked your FGSTL and you will go +1 today (AxiomAcer +2, Alicia +1, and -2 NAKSEO).

Ah, okay I get it now. Wow the anti-team can really kill it for you! I thought I did much better today, but I actually made more points on yesterdays match. Seems to be more about making the right picks on the anti team rather than your main team.

I did also put MMA there but I chose players who I want to do well in order to be pleased either way. Good strat'.

MMA for 6 points considering his last year of results seemed like a good deal.
I actually understand why a lot of people went for Ryung, as he has been pretty inconsistent as of late, seems to be struggling with HotS transition (before today) and did seem pretty expensive. However (and this is relevant for MMA as well) AXA's roster is so thin that it is likely every player is going to get several plays. I think today didn't they only have 5 players on the bench? You look at that line up and MMA seems like the most likely ace of that team, he's going to play a lot and he's probably going to win.

High five for no trade-group! :D
I was thinking of Squirtle when I created my team. Now I kinda regret not doing so. Will be fun none the less! Even if I don't get far.
Not quite sure what happened but somehow I'm on -1 point. The -1 coming from Ragnarok winning a game, yet somehow I haven't been awarded any points?
From my count I should have +1 for Heart appearance, +2 for his win, +3 for Ryung's appearence & win & finally +2 for Axiom-Acer winning 4-3? Removing 2 for Ryung & Heart's loss & another for Ragnarok's win puts me overall at +5 rather than -1. Still a laughable, poor start but... What?
Did I read the scoring wrong or what?
Edit; Alicia cancels himself out with +1 for an appearence but -1 for a loss so, still +5.
Wow... Being purely a fan when picking my FPL team, this match has been awesome !
MMA + Axiom Acer selected : yum yum points !
On a more serious note, that's quite interesting to see A-A perform well for their first GSTL match ! Looking forward more good performance from them throughout this season !

Byun vs Supernova could also go either way. Don't know if I'd feel safe trading into either of them.

But you mainly won't win because, this time, I will win.
Actually I bet you 100 fantasy nerd dollars that I will absolutely crush your team. First week I was top 60, I had Squirtle for his timely 8pts to open, I traded for Sound just before his all-kill, and I have many more plots and schemes up my sleeves this round.

Yup, it was. And of course, you saw those trades, trading for favourite in opening match is always worth it!
btw yay, #30 - thanks Sound and Byun! Too bad I am probably stuck with MVP for good, they just had to lose to Axiom -.-
For those who has Sound. Sound -> Gumiho is the sickest trade right now.
And wtf IM is playing mvp in GSTL?? Dat 4 point value. Almost everyone should have someone to trade for mvp. I'm going with keen -> mvp. Dream is playing so chances are Keen won't.
Trading - Bomber --> mvp (Really banking on mvp pulling through and winning some games here. Otherwise this is going to be a crappy trade) Trading - SalvatioN --> Kong (I think FXO will win this match, and he's the same price as salvation. He did well in the GSL qualifiers, losing to Killer 1-2 in the semi's of his group.) Trading - PRIME --> FXO

Fyi Dream have already beaten Gumiho in a TvT recently. He beat Lucky and Hurricane as well as he did a 3kill on FXO Korea in the Team Story Cup. Only to fall too Leenock that got beaten 2x by Noblesse that finished the series off.

Noblesse is a great pickup imo, looked very strong in the series.

I have Sound on my team, but wasn't sure if FXO would even field Gumiho...
traded
by the way, how did you find out the starting players? I can't find any info about it on gomtv
And yeah it's true Gumiho has not been doing that great at HotS so far, and Dream did just beat him. So there's definitely some risks. But I think he just hasn't shown what he's capable of yet in HotS. Even if he loses to Dream I'm planning on long term keeping Gumiho. He is a stable on FXO and will see a lot of play, and I think they are a strong team. If I don't get him now with the trade value boost on Sound I might not get another chance if he starts winning this week.
Traded my Sound for Gumiho, should be able to get some sick value out of that. And Mvp easiest trade, so cheap and I think he's good for a kill or two hopefully. Very excited. Doing so well at the moment having bought Sound at just the right moment, with PRIME as a good value team buy.

aye, sounds like we're picking him for the same reasons. my strategy is kinda hinged on 2/3 of FXO's holy trinity; Tear the son, Gumiho the holy spirit. Tear is my captain. picked him when he was rank #2 GM in Korea with 99 wins/38 losses, winning over Innovation the last 3 times they played on ladder. I planned to acquire Gumiho when I was certain he'd play. so clutch in team league and one of the few terrans good enough to survive the end of WoL. he seems to be meching a lot vP
Gambling on trading Lucky -> Dream and Losira -> MVP.
I almost wanted to trade Keen for Dream, but Lucky was far closer in points and I think Keen has a higher chance of being played should Dream lose given the metagame and terran so far.
And MVP <3 I didn't pick him up originally because I thought they just wouldnt play him

Fyi Dream have already beaten Gumiho in a TvT recently. He beat Lucky and Hurricane as well as he did a 3kill on FXO Korea in the Team Story Cup. Only to fall too Leenock that got beaten 2x by Noblesse that finished the series off.

I really think GuMiHo will do well for FXO but I have to trade out Sound to make that happen, -1.56 value, I don't think Sound will smash it up 2 weeks in a row though so see it as a rather safe bet.
I'd also QUITE like MVP in my team as I see Scarlett as a free win for him and Axiom/Acer as a team a potential All Kill for him because FUCK YEAH MVP... However there's also the more sensible parts of me that knows he's injured, crap in team leagues, not in Code S this year, didn't go mental at the first HotS tourneys etc...
So, my most realistic choice is to swap out First for MVP ~ -5 value. However if MVP were to lose then First would most likely be the person sent out second given his great record so I'm at a bit of a loose end...
How does trading work? Will we be able to trade again after Week 3 or only after Week 4? I didn't keep up with FGSTL in the first two weeks, was trading open after Week 1?
Help me, I wanna go to bed and then I can't trade anything until the trading period is over.

Well the first trade failed. And why would you trade Byun for Life? Life is awesome but he's on a huge team and probably won't get to earn a lot of points, whereas ByuN will probably almost always be played for Prime.

Fuck, that Mvp trade didn't work out so well. At least I only have MMA on my anti, not Ryung or anyone else from Axiom. If GuMiho loses to Dream tomorrow, I traded like an idiot once again.

I have both Dream and GuMiho on mine (traded Jjakji for GuMiho). I'm hoping that whoever wins can take it far.
Thankfully picking up Super has temporarily mitigated Ryung torpedoing my anti team. I can only trade him for Life and Byun T_T. I'm sorry I didn't have faith in AA.
Oh geez. i really like to pick up starters (three starters this season have all-killed) and am unsure to go on if i should go with Azubu's ace, or hack because hes terran.

I had Ryung on my anti-team and he was wrecking me.
So on the last trade I blindly swapped him for Life without thinking to check what games were coming up, figuring he probably just wouldn't play much (team is pretty deep so...you know...).
Long story short I'm now 4879th. Between them they've wiped 18 points out. >_>

Marineking prime isn't even playing this week, and ganzi is. you had a chance to make at least 1 point on ganzi if his team wins, and more if he personally plays. You have no chance to make points on MarineKing. you should have kept ganzi and swiched next week, or swiched ganzi for someone on FXO, Azubu, AxiomAcer, or Startale.

ok. look. Maru is on prime. prime isn't playing today, so he can't play. and if ganzi loses if hes on your anti. you dont gain points. you just don't LOSE points. and it ganzi wins a game (hey, it could happen, he just all-killed) then you LOSE points. you can never gain points from your anti team. marineking isn't playing at all this week because prime isn't playing, so you can't gain points from him. What im saying you do is since you cant gain points from marineking this week becuase he won't play at all, and you could possibly gain points from ganzi, is that you keep ganzi this week. then trade for marineking NEXT week. you still will be able to trade for marineking, but this way, you get extra points if ganzi wins or if his team wins. again, for reiteration, you CANNOT gain points off your anti-team. On another note, you should probably trade symbol off your anti because their is a good chance he will win his game. but you probably want to trade for someone who is not on azubu, axiom, startale, or FXO, becuase then you cant lose points on that person this week.

There's always the possibility that Ganzi will play and lose and drop in trade value to below marineking's. Then he won't be able to make that trade next week.

So Ganzi didn't play today, and his team won. so you would of gained a point off ganzi, which is exactly what i was talking about. since you chose MarineKing, you didn't gain anything. even though you had a possibility to lose trade value if he played and then lost, their is a much much much greater chance that A) he won't play at all (which is what happened) or B) he plays and wins. MarineKing isn't looking so hot right now in GSTL. best of luck to you though.

If not, 100 teams are basiccally doomed for having put life on there antiteam
ST vs Azubu went really poorly for me. I have ST as my team, with Bomber and Curious representing. I traded Ganzi for Symbol before the match which turned out to be my saving grace. The scenario I was hoping for was:
Symbol beats Hack Symbol beats Bomber Symbol beats Life Curious reverse All-kill
It was shaping up pretty good until Symbol lost to Life and then they both fell to San. I didn't get points for ST winning, or good value for Bomber or Curious.
I have MMA and Gumiho for Ax-Acer vs FXO. I'm hoping MMA can all-kill right out of the gate, or score some major points and then have Gumiho step in and do the same.
damnit... i could've traded prime for azubu LAST week and got both a 4-0 and a 4-2 on my team score by now, but NUUU i put faith in byun and MKP to beat ST -_-' why
holy crap. i had sc on my anti and last minuite decided to trade for sting. lol. right now, im 3/5 for trading people from my anti who would go on to all kill, or trade people from my main team for people who would later all kill.
Time for another all kill by ByuN. Wish I picked him up earlier!
Lol, Madbull was my low value filler player and he ends up netting more points for me than MVP, Seed and MC combined. I hope that IM picks up their game quickly...too many eggs in one basket.
So I have a list of everyone who abused by trading after the matches started. What's an appropriate punishment? I'm thinking either a -20 trade tax penalty or reverting all trades.
revert the trades and a -abs(x) penalty where x = amount of points gained through the trade (abs so people who did a stupid trade also lose points) would that be possible?
Between the options I'd lean more towards the -20 trade penalty or Koerage's suggestion so there's some definite penalty for trying to abuse, reverting trades only seems pretty lenient imo since it makes it in some cases just like they didn't try to do it at all.
I actually traded for Hurricane before the match started, but undid my trade for Madbull after seeing that he didn't play to salvage the -1 trade tax... which somehow undid my Hurricane trade as well x.x
...do I still get punished even though I don't have the points from Hurricane anymore?
Punish them all! Glad I already had Hurricane, no need to trade. And I can only move up after today's results, best ones possible except if I also had FXO as a team. Need Byun to all-kill tomorrow then.
This breaks my heart. Here I was thinking that I would finally get some solid points off of trading (I traded before the matches), now no one knows what is going on . I might cry!
I tried reporting the problem, but it didn't get fixed in time. People started talking about how they were making trades during the match. Even though I wanted the problem fixed, it was not fixed, so I did not want to be left behind and made a trade as well. If I get punished, whatever, but the majority of the fault lies with TL imo. GSTL starts at the same time on the same day every week. It shouldn't be that difficult to set the timer for the trades. Also, this was the second time I reported a bad timer on FGSTL trades. The first time it was fixed before the match started.
So is fantasy gstl fucked for the rest of the season? I didn't even know about the trade mix up until checking the thread to see if anyone knew why there was no update yet :[
It blows my mind that people can admit to cheating by taking advantage of an obvious error that will be fixed, yet still try to shove the blame off themselves.

read a few pages back. FGSTL got messed up because trading remained open during last week's match. people traded for Hurricane while he was all-killing NSH

I got that. lol. then r1ch said that he was going to either revert the trades or give -20 trade tax. neither has been done. They didn't update for last weeks results, and they need to do that and open trading before this weeks matches start. and i don't see it happening, because he hasn't said what he decided or even given us any indication on whats going to happen
Trades were reverted, but I also noticed a major problem with the round setup in that only 7 weeks were entered into the system. I'm not entirely sure what this affects as I think trade value goes by games played vs weeks, but things may be glitchy going into week 7. Fantasy is a fickle beast .
Hey R1CH, I just want to let you know that the countdown timer is off again. The first GSTL match of the week is Friday, May 10 9:10am GMT (GMT+00:00) which should be from now. Current trade timer reads Trading closes in: 1 days 23:53:16
I'm seeing a bug where about half the options in the drop-down menu for trading off First are greyed out, though I'm not experiencing this with any other player on my team. R1CH, could you look into this?

First is your only Protoss on your team. I believe that all teams need to keep 1 of each race on your main team
i think it's rude using the language you did in that thread anyways. yes FGSTL could be updated faster, but he also has FPL to update, not to mention they just launched the Liquid Store 2.0 which probably is being monitored closely for bugs as well. But hey, if you don't get your internet points you better call someone who has been amazing throughout Liquid's lifetime, 'a piss-poor' employee.
ohhhhhh i get it....starting to feel slightly dumb if thats the case, although i wish they opened trading before that...you can always up the T.Val once people commit to their starters(ie. it effects 2 players out of like a possible 200).
I usually dont trade till thursday night anyways, to give me time to research, but i wouldnt mind seeing my new points total so i know how good i am doing.

But hey, if you don't get your internet points you better call someone who has been amazing throughout Liquid's lifetime, 'a piss-poor' employee.
I said "with no offense" and then i offered my help, dunno how much more helpful i can be.
That's a tough starter list. Tempting to trade for Bomber as he is currently cheap as chips, however given Hurricane's good record so far this season it's a big risk, because if he doesn't get atleast 1 kill his T.Val will be sub-10.0 and will be hard to trade for someone worthwhile.
Also tempting to grab some big dogs from MVP but the trick is do who, because you know NSH probably won't put up too much of a fight and will probably only take 1-2 maps tops, therefore it's tricky to call whose going to go on a big run...
I need to work on my anti-team picking too. If there was no anti I would be leading FGTSL by 8 points...FU MMA, you give 6 anti-points, then I trade Yoda for you, and you produce a measly 2 points in 2 weeks and go way down in trade value...so much for the Emperor's son!

no he cannot play for the rest of the season
Thanks good to know. Sucks for him although with the LG-IM toss line current form he probably wouldn't have been used much had he stayed. Wonder what impact this will have on first/squirtle.
Thankfully i had Avenge! i think i might be ranked 30 or around there after they update :D. fingers crossed, cuz i decided to risk a lot of point value and traded Super(worth like 24) for keen (worth like 18)
Time to make some points with KangHo all kill but it doesn't really matter anymore since having CranK in the anti-team really fucked me. On a brighter note NAKSEO proved to be a real gem which I didn't expect at all (and neither did a lot of other people since he was on every other anti-team as I recall).
I think there is a bug in this round: i'm trading GuMiho for Losira, and after i confirm the trade Losira shows up as --Already Traded-- , and GuMiho is still available for trading. Under the Trades made this week it shows GuMiho for Kangho(LosirA) correctly. Under my team menu it shows the HO as my team member, and Losira is not. how do i get rank1 now ?

Unfortunately due to lack of schedule at the start of the season, the number of weeks entered was too short. The final week was reached and unfortunately people traded players, which means they had a player from Week X - 10, which is indistinguishable from having a player and never trading him (Week 1 - 10). When I increased the number of weeks, all the players (both players who were traded away and players who were never traded) ended up with an increased duration, which means some people have more players on their team than is supposed to be possible.
Fixing this is not very easy due to how the data is stored. There are logs of trades, so I will have to manually go through each trade and fix the player durations for each player. There may be other issues resulting from this that I haven't noticed either, so no guarantees that this will fix anything .
