Every time a European hockey team wins its because the NHL pros from NA were not there? You do realize that most NA teams in professional sports(excluding soccer) could mop the floor with any other team in the world. Does that stop them from having their own leagues? Do people not watch college football, claiming, “Well there are no NFL players so these kids are jokes.” There are soccer teams for tons of countries and only some are top tier. because it feels like it limits the competition, and I would rather a foreigner win by beating other top players. Also are you saying that top teams playing each other is bad? I don't want there to be a doubt that the person who won played good enough to get to that spot. Also there is no amateur competitive league so we should see top players play each other more then in real sports.
It has nothing to do with limiting competition and high level players till play, against each other . All professional sports have this system of dividing up leagues by skill/region. In baseball there are the major and minor leagues. If you make it to the minor leagues, you might get picked up by a major league team. College football feeds directly into the NFL. College hockey and the European leagues freed the NHL. College basket ball feeds into the NBA. Kespa stars aren’t born, they are crafted and trained.
You cannot have a competitive anything if there are not different level of competition. Its not about a foreign beat Flash or Life. It is about finding the foreign play with the potential and drive to beat them and having a system that will cultivate that player into becoming that player, training with the best and then beating them. Its not about “practicing harder”, but creating a system where players are taught how train that hard.
And every event does not need to be the best players in the would. College football is awesome. March madness(college basketball) is some of the most watched TV in America right now. Guess what, none of those players are the best in the world. And the NBA and NFL will still happen. We don’t need to choose, we can have it all.

o.o... So it would be pretty cool Scarlett.. if we got the information was "swirling around" but not completely inaccurate. You could say something like.. "RUMORS SAY: blah blah blah, but nothings confirmed and theres no credible evidence!"

Either way, good to hear that the bad rumors are not so true.
Fucking waiting on announcements... over a week even. I want to know now.

In my opinion this seems good. Organizations are working together for the betterment of e-sports. However, I do think that this event is almost definitely intertwined with some of the things being stated on twitter involving Axiom and and some "rumors" around Korean e-sports. I wonder what all of this will actually boil down to...Hopefully in the end everyone is able to benefit from this though.

Also to the people who say MLG would be fine without the koreans.. You're being delusional. Yes, they'd likely be fine as an organization but there would be a sharp drop off in viewership. Seriously..would you watch the best of the best going at it in the RO8s where every matchup seems to be Code S Finals material? Or..would you see Idra vs Demuslim in Ro4? :/..

Can I have both? Would we not be better off with both, just like cake and pie?

Hypothetical, since MLG without Koreans won't happen anytime soon.
I would obviously not be as inclined to tune in as I would be otherwise, but it depends on how rare Korean games on foreign grounds would become and on the production quality.
If most Koreans only played in foreign tournaments two or three times a year in like a Global Grand Finals of Whatever, then I might start watching more foreigner only tournaments to fill the void because why the hell not.
If production managed to make them personable and create storylines and bring the players and their character close to the viewers, I might start rooting for certain NA players and cheer for them to defeat some other guy in that hypothetical scenario.
Obviously still watching GSL and all that, but such an event could be fun as well. I still watch some of my friends' (who I played with as a kid) football matches because I know them and want to see how they do even if it's on an objectively abysmal level. If you root for people, you'll find that you can be quite tolerant.
Compared to them I'm like a Korean to a foreigner in StarCraft, but that doesn't bother me when I watch.

I think the numbers at are their highest when it's korean vs foreigner (see: stephano matches vs koreans)

Indeed. People want to watch foreigner vs foreigner even less than they want to see korean vs korean. WCS Europe was a novelty exception but if you have a WCS Europe every week/month people will stop caring and want to see the best players play again.

Pretty sure the highest viewer count for this past MLG was during the RO4 with Innovation vs Flash and Life vs MC.

Let's all have arguments about things that might not be true, such as there being foreigner-only tournaments.
Our opinions are worthwhile, after all, considering that we have reliable information at our disposal.

That's a bad comparison because in athletics those kids are still developing their game whereas in gaming it works very differently. The age group is vastly different as in they need to develop a lot longer, i.e. Flash and BaBy were child prodigies. I do agree on having minor leagues and major leagues though. That's why the OSL had survivor tournaments. That's why Pro Gamers earned their right through Courage. That's why the GSL has Code B, A and the grand Daddy of them all S (which in reality has very limited meaning now once you look at the groups).

Stephano isn't really an underdog though as he's shown that he can hang with the big boys. He's a pro league regular and that means something. In either case we should be encouraging players to stick with it and get better to reap the rewards.
