Project Dark Horse has come charging out the gate to raise an impressive $1,691.01 and now we are proud to announce our first two Dark Horse candidates, selected by our SlayerS beneficiary Jessica, and making a bold return to Starcraft 2, CoCa and Puzzle! They will be representing the community and their supporters at DreamHack Stockholm in April.
CoCa and Puzzle were both left teamless after SlayerS disbanded in October 2012. They experimented with competitive League of Legends, but the call of the Swarm was too much to ignore. Both have chosen to return to Stacraft 2, eager to prove themselves on the updated battlefield in Heart of the Swarm. Though both are currently teamless, the opportunity to attend DreamHack Stockholm, provided by the community though Project Dark Horse, presents a valuable opportunity for Puzzle and CoCa to attract attention.
In celebration of this, we have released the first of the coveted SlayerS jacket to be sold at auction to support these 2 players and others. You can find that auction HERE
Please join us in supporting CoCa and Puzzle, and stay tuned for more opportunities to support more players through Project Dark Horse.
Origin: PROJECT DARK HORSE represents the efforts of Cyber Sports Network to satisfy the final wish of Korean professional pro-gaming Team SlayerS. When Team SlayerS owners Kim 'Jessica" Ka Yeon and Lim "BoxeR" Yo Hwan decided to close the doors on their world-renown organization, they asked CSN to distribute the last of their team gear, and to use any money collected to help new pro-gamers. Mission: True to the intentions of the original benefactors, Jessica & BoxeR of Team SlayerS, PROJECT DARK HORSE is a non-profit organization that auctions and distributes donated pro-gaming team apparel, memorabelia, and related items to raise funds in support of new pro-gaming talent. Participating esports fans will direct their donations to deserving candidates, allowing fans to directly support the players they love and to earn something in return.
Holy shit.... This is awesome!!! I loved Puzzles immortal build back in the day! I dont know what their skill level is right now but they are extremely talented people!
Nice, hopefully they will do as well or even better than they played before quitting and be able to find a team that will pick them up! Happy to see that they are back.

Khaldor "officially" confirmed it on Reddit a day or two ago I think, so I don't doubt (and never did) that this is a joke. Besides, we've had a couple of threads speculating on it.
Anyways, glad that the legitimate news is legitimate and official. I always liked Puzzle, especially when he a-moved up two ramps into a massive concave at once and still managed to win. Of course, I liked Coca too.
I'd bid on the SlayerS jacket if it was in my size. Hopefully a Large size will go on ebay. However, I'm really exctied for Coca and Puzzle to come back. I guess League of Legends didn't work out for them.
If this is an April fools joke, then I'll be so angry and disappointed.
It's funny how we're getting all these Koreans being sent in pairs to Dreamhack: Leenock-Gumiho from FXO, Yugioh-Sage from Root, and now Puzzle-Coca from Slayers
I'm happy they decided to come back to SC2 from LoL, but I wish that Project Darkhorse could have used their funds for actual new players as they state in their mission statement. These two are well known sc2 pros that were already on a top team. I'd imagine if they wanted to, they could get into a top korean or foreign team without getting more exposure from attending a dreamhack.

That's good to hear. I was about to post asking if these 2 were even possible contenders for the event given how long they've been out of the scene now.

I think they made that mission statement prematurely. I remember jessica said slayers gear would be sold and the funds would be used to send players to foreign tourneys. She said that on twitter so long ago and csn took forever to actually sell the stuff, people probably forgot that it was always jessica's decision on who to send with that money.
Believe me I raised my eyebrows when I read their mission statement, cause I was like whoa jessica never gave them the greenlight to pick who the money went to. It was still jessica's gear and she was just using csn as a proxy seller. Towards the end, jessica was getting very frustrated at how slow csn was moving and kept tweeting rachel to hurry up and sell the gear. Also, where is the rest of the money coming from cause I don't think $1700 is enough to send two players to DH for flight and hotel?
That's really a good news for me. I really missed Coca and Puzzle very much and I still remembered the time that they two were teamless due to the disbandation of the SlayerS. What a great loss for the Starcraft II that these two guys turned into League of Legends. But anyway, they are back to the Starcraft HotS and that's all right! I wish they practise more and revive to their peak as soon as possible.
re: those calling for puzzle and coca to sign with axiom
i'm not sure that's so likely? considering that they still seem to be in favour with slayers`jessica who definitely seems antagonistic towards axiom, i'm not so sure. considering cella isn't coaching for ax-acer o.O
This is great news for both of them, if they aren't in talks with new teams yet they will be once they get to show off their skills, its also nice to see Jessica helping out some of her old players, hopefully they find good teams soon enough.

Why would she ever be antagonistic towards axiom? Didn't the team establish long after SlayerS disbanded? :o

It was more a fuss between Jessica and the players and then jumped in to defend the Axiom players. But yeah, it's not very likely they'll join Axiom.
Sorry, I have no respect for people like sC, Puzzle and Coca. They kind of abandoned us, switched to LoL and now they come back. I bet they would do it again once HotS runs out of money (well, not exactly 'runs out', but decreases the amount) like in the end of WoL. Alternatively, once they aren't competitive to win well enough.

Well tbh, they all had their reasons. Sc: Big health problems all the time Puzzle and Coca: mixed up in the slayers drama.

You should consider learning a bit about Coca's story before telling stuff like that. I don't think there's such thing as 'abandoned us'. They quit SC2, tried something else but finally came back to their true love. "Us" should be proud of it.
So glad to see Coca playing SC2 again. Without his stupid match fixing issue, I truly think that he could have been one of the top zergs in WoL alongside Leenock and DRG.
I thought that Project Dark-horse was for up and coming players and not old veterans that failed. There have been plenty of small online cups for them to prove themselves but they haven't.
I was really looking forward to see some new talent, both korean and foreigner...

yea i agree with this, they went away and now get rewarded for that?
Hellllll yes! CoCa will forever be one of my favorite players. I still wonder what could have happened if he was never dropped down after that scandal. I seriously think he could have gotten himself some sort of championship. Nonetheless, I'm glad he and Puzzle are back!
Hey, I'm the guy who won the first uniform set for this.
I'm actually kind of upset that my money is going to go to a player who obviously gave up on a game when he and it were down, to take a way to obviously just jump on the bandwagon and make more money.
Who's to say they wont do this tournament, blow the $800 I gave to this project, and then just give up again?
What a waste if you ask me. I wish I would've just given my money directly to a player I support.

Neither Coca nor Puzzle failed...both of them were some of the most talented players of their time, even if they never did win a GSL (but how many players can say the did).

It also doesn't seem to quite gel with what is said in the description in the first post of this thread. Coca and puzzle are hardly new pro gaming talent. They are both proven talents who have had success before. As you said it's even worse that they left the game for its biggest competitor. It would be a lot more interesting if this went to up and coming talent who would struggle to be able to find the funds to compete at a big tournament.

Exactly. They had their shot, and left. Why am I giving them money? I'd rather give it to a foreigner or even a Korean who is and has been putting their heart and soul into the game.

Sorry for expressing myself in such a fashion, was just upset with this whole Dark-Horse thing. Taking so long to firstly put up a action and then failing on the projects main point got me upset.
If CoCa and Puzzle wants to get back into the game and get some money while they're at it they should just stream. CoCa always had a big fanbase and had easy over 2000 viewers when he streamed his ladder games. Puzzle had a decent stream and I think there is a lack of high level korean Protoss streams in HotS right now so he could gain viewers by that.
Just donated $10 to see the counter crack the 1.7k mark, but it doesn't seem to updated in real-timme anyway COCA AND PUZZLE <3<3<3 And never turn your backs on us for LoL again!!!!
Wow. Really? I thought this whole Project Darkhorse thing would be to help newer players in the scene without rich teams or ways to prove themselves.
Instead you're giving money to two popular Koreans that just recently started playing again to come lose at Dreamhack. Good job. Glad I didn't give any money.

Last I heard project dark horse was raising some money to spend flash over to america
Incidentally, those against the sending of these two. Who exactly would you advocate ahead of these guys?
Seems a perfect fit really, they were away in the scene for a bit yes, but equally that probably stopped them getting a good quality new home when contracts were expiring and all.
I mean it's not as if they just went 'fuck it, I'll go play LoL', there were a lot of other issues, team problems, the whole practice embargo thing that people just seem to forget happened.

It's not about doing well at the tournament at all. It's about supporting a player who might not otherwise get support. IMO this is a lot harder right now because there aren't a lot of small online cups going on. Only person that comes to mind is PandaTank but I think he just got a personal sponsorship recently.

To be fair, she threatens to sue everyone that does anything she believes is against her and Boxer. You know, 16-18 year old pro gamers, journalist, maybe her make up artist. She is equal opportunity with her crazy. TB isn't really special in this regard, beyond the fact that he isn't really worried about her.

Ok, sarcasm and satire are lost on some of you. Clearly I was not advocating for Jessica. She is a wack-job, drama princess.
Oh hell yes! I don't expect either to win the tourney, but I will be very excited to watch. The MLG finals of Coca vs. Bomber is still one of my fondest SC2 memories. "Domination in the center of the map by Coca!" -Day9

When they're training for a tournament?..
Anyway, I was honestly more excited about Coca and Puzzle's return to SC2 before this sponsorship news, when I thought it was purely self-motivated.
I remain cautiously optimistic, because I believe those two deserve a second chance. They had really bad luck as far as teams go. They left Zenex and joined Slayers presumably in search of better opportunities and a more stable environment, and found themselves right in the middle of the biggest drama in the history of Korean SC2.
Had they stayed with Zenex, they would have eventually ended up in Startale along with the rest of the team, and things might have been a lot different.
I hope they're serious about committing to SC2, and aren't just doing this because someone told them they can go to Dreamhack if they play.
Impressive to see a them return. According to DoA on Reddit, they left LoL because the didn't function well as a team, but had the mechanics which most LoL pros tend to lack. I'm guessing Axiom or StarTale for teams; Axiom because it has the SlayerS connection without the management which they hated, and StarTale because many ZeNEX players migrated there, and has a strong teamhouse for re-education into SC2.

Puzzle and Coca could get on pretty much any foreigner team right now and probably get their trip paid for anyway. If not they can stream and make their money back more than likely. My $800 wasn't to give Jessica's friends a shortcut back into the game, it was to give a passionate player a chance to prove him/herself.

I'm far from a Jessica defender, but the confusion is CSN's fault and not hers. When she decided to sell the clothes, she clearly stated on twitter that the funds would be used to send some of the remaining slayers players to foreign events. CSN twisted her words into some dark horse project, when that's clearly not what she wanted going by her twitter posts back then. I always assumed it would be used on slayers players. It just took CSN so long to get the auction going, that people forgot her tweets.

You know that the clothes were still jessica's property and she was just using CSN as a proxy seller right? Anyways, I blame CSN's for the confusion as I have no problem with her picking the players since it is her money.

Why would she ever be antagonistic towards axiom? Didn't the team establish long after SlayerS disbanded? :o
Maybe because she threatened to sue us over Twitter? That's probably got something to do with it. Jessica is crazy.
The girl is a nut job no matter how you slice it. Once they both returned I sort of knew where these donations/auctions were going to go. Not hard to connect the dots considering they haven't joined other teams yet meh.

This does seem to have turned into Project "Hey, I'm Jessica, give me your money so I can give it to the SlayerS players that I still get along with".
That's me. I've already asked for a refund. It's clearly stated on their site what it's supposed to be used for, and they have ignored that. I politely asked for a refund of my money as they haven't shipped the uniform yet upon my request.
Did you not know who jessica was when you gave $800 to her?
This was The Darkhorse Project by CSN, not Jessica takes my money for her friends project.
That makes much more sense. From the op, it seems like she was always going to decide.
I don't follow twitter, especially in Korean, so I went with the website.

Well it was not that obvious, public did not know on what terms they parted ways.
Like you said, you could connect the dots, if you would pay attention to the moments in time, when the rumors of their return started to emerge and when the dark horse project was started. Looking at it now, it perfectly makes sense.
In the end, she baited people into supporting her proteges using CSN as a front. Dark horses, lol.
I don't understand the hate from some people here.
These two were both considered to be among the top players of their races during their time. They hit a rough patch. They were on a team with a bleak future, went to another one and that one blew up disastrously.
During all that drama they were probably the odd couple out, not being part of the original Slayers crew. Right around that time all the Kespa pros flooded into the scene in a big way for the first time, and started knocking out the GSL players in the WCS qualifiers.
Not the best decision certainly by them to throw in the towel and switch to LoL, but what's wrong with giving them another chance?
The idea that they could just find foreign teams to send them to Dreamhack is ludicrous. Players with much better recent results had a hard time finding teams lately.
YES!!!!!! 2 of my favorite players, I hope they're not too out of shape and I'm still waiting for coca to take a gsl since the time he got disqualified...

This is true: I, because I read Jessica's statements first, was always under the impression that this was the way the money was to be used: to help the players who suffered as a result of the team shutting down. It's probably more of a miscommunication, panties officially in a twist guy.

Because you feel cheated on by CSN. Sure it's great that they are coming back but this is totally the wrong fashion.
Project Darkhorse wasn't for old SC2 pros that switched over or took a brake to later return with a flight payed to a premier tournament. (completely out of the dark as well, they haven't streamed or played in any cups) It was for a NEW player to get his/her chance at making results.
And please tell me what players are left that haven't found a new home. A lot of players have found homes now after HOTS release.
So we don't blame Coca and Puzzle for making a return, we are blaming CSN for not telling us the true story.

Alive and Oz were teamless for a long time, until EG became desperate and picked them up for PL. It took Hyun and Symbol, two recent Code S finalists, a very long time to find themselves teams. Hyun just said he still doesn't know if he'll be sent to Dreamhack, not for lack of desire on his part. Squirtle, Code S player, shopped around for a long time before IM picked him up.
I'm sorry but the idea that these guys would have been given good deals from foreign teams after not having played for half a year is just silly.

Thus disqualifying them for the title of "new progamer" or darkhorse.

Not really relevant. Plenty of people have faced mild adversity, but coca and puzzle just dealt with it terribly (switching games, into returning when they predictably didn't succeed in the other game and there seemed to be some opportunity for easier money in HoTS).
Not the best decision certainly by them to throw in the towel and switch to LoL, but what's wrong with giving them another chance?
Nothing. No one is saying they aren't allowed to compete or that if they qualify legitimately that they should be barred or something. The point is that this project was not made to help them. The people who paid to this were misled (may even qualify as a scam).
The idea that they could just find foreign teams to send them to Dreamhack is ludicrous. Players with much better recent results had a hard time finding teams lately.
Well why don't those players then get the trip? They are better, stuck with SC2 and need a break.
This isn't a "send a popular player to DH who wouldn't otherwise get to go". If they were upfront about such a venture and said that it went towards Puzzle and Coca, then there would be no drama (but probably also very little money raised). This is why no one complained when Reddit send MKP to some MLG. They didn't say they would help a newcomer to the scene, and then once donations were in announced it was MKP, they very honest about it.
Personally I think these are great picks for Project Dark Horse, as they are teamless and have tons of potential. Its not a risky investment. That being said, I can see that people are upset that former pro's who quit to join the LoL train are being sponsored. I suppose there is a risk with donating money to funding an unannounced player, no matter who they pick, there will be people who are upset. Maybe they should announce the next player(s) prior to their next round of auctions/funding.
To those that seem angered by this decision, who would you send if the decision were up to you?
cool. two very talented players coming back to sc2, should be interesting to see their results. I just hope this isn't a fling and they quit after dreamhack.

Not new players maybe, but dark horse, how could they not be? We're talking about 2 players everyone had already written off. Imagine Puzzle wins Dreamhack 3 weeks from now. Who could have even predicted that a month ago? We don't even know how these guys are playing, aside from catching a glimpse of Puzzle in a few streams. If a player who's been gone from the scene comes back half a year later and kicks ass in a premier tournament, how is that not a dark horse?

Yeah, it seems pretty shady to advertise it the way they did and then to just have jessica pick whoever she wanted. I hope you get your money back.
We appreciate those of you currently supporting Project Dark Horse. A few of us at CSN have chosen to volunteer to take on this task of putting in the work for the design, logistics, and follow through of this endeavor. We completely understand the concerns about project. We would like to clarify that the direction of the project is not determined by Jessica. When she graciously provided the product for us to sell, the path of the project was not determined. However, after sitting down with Jessica we came up with this idea to support players that are without a home, that need the help. She asked to choose the first recipients, we happily obliged as Puzzle and Coca are more than deserving.
Anyway, with that being said the next Dark Horse recipients and every other from now on will be determined by an open qualifier, or open community vote (submission process and requirements of course to be announced). Sorry for any confusion, and we hope you continue to support.

Alternatively, once they aren't competitive to win well enough.
What an incredibly stupid post.. abandoned? really? Tell me exactly how much you as a person did for them when they abandoned you.
They switched games, so what? People who reason like you are why Racism and nationalism still exist.... abandoned.... I dont even.. I sure hope Im getting trolled hard right now. ( see what Im doing here? im giving you an opportunity to realise how stupid u were and escape)
Good for CoCa and Puzzle!
I hope they will have better time in the scene for round 2.
Its too bad that people who did pay quite a lot feel cheated on somehow, but as others have already said, according to jessicas tweets, it was quite obvious that some of the money was going to support X-slayers members.

Thanks for the update... a community vote would be a great idea. I look forward to seeing who else you guys will be sponsoring in the future.
