Would I maybe pay for premium SC2 coverage, yes have done so in the past. Just don't make it monthly subscriptions. As a principle I don't sign up if its reoccurring billing to my VISA. Make it season based, and if thats an issue with twitch, then make them add support for it. I would not pay to have a channel that covers any MOBA game, firstly because I don't even have time to keep up with all the great SC2 content. On top of the time issue, IMHO MOBA games are fun to play but extremely boring to watch. Feels like a waste of time to watch. FPS 1v1 is much better though, but there is still the time issue. TL;DR: I would maybe pay for a top quality 2 hour weekly show about SC2. Max. $50/year non-reoccurring billing, or split in 4 seasons.

Restreaming probably wouldn't draw in a lot of people (unless it's for a tournament without VODs or with pay for VODs). Watching old stuff is also not exciting unless something interesting happened. I already feel like there is enough content to watch things nearly 24/7. There's usually something going on with SC2 every day (Proleague, WCS, GSTL, etc) already. In terms of "eSports" in general, I also feel that other games have it covered too (Dota 2 has tons of stuff going on every day, free VODs and videos too for a lot of them; Tobi for example usually uploads something at least almost every other day nowadays). I don't think 24/7 would work, especially if it's old content like restreams of tournaments that happened in the past. The main reason is for most people, why watch old stuff (except maybe watching a recent major tournament you missed) when there are plenty of new and more recent stuff to watch going on right now. On April 29 2013 08:39 Hoon wrote: A "TV-like" channel would be a step down to what we have now. Currently, we tune in to whatever we want, whenever we want. VODs are all up on Twitch or Youtube, tournament schedules can be checked in Liquipedia and watched on Twitch and documentaries, frag videos, etc can be found on Youtube. I agree. If it's TV-like channel, even if it's on TV too, there's not much incentive for people to watch it since it's much more convenient to watch things online (easier to just pick what you want to watch and when). 24/7 stream just doesn't seem to work. In terms of original content, again, we have tons of original "eSports" related content coming out frequently as of now too (interviews, etc). Plus, shows like SotG has happening regularly (and with Artosis adding "Meta" on to it, another extra show). Inside the Game still is going on too. Add NASL Pulse too, we have the potential for 4 weekly SC2 related shows that cover past events and news related to the SC2 world. Finally a 24/7 stream might contribute to the saturation problem, and it might also cut numbers from player streams too. I'm a bit surprised at the poll results actually since we did have the whole tournament/stream saturation discussion only recently. Overall, there is already enough content for most people to watch something new every day (SC2 alone has enough IMO). A 24/7 stream may work if there wasn't anything else going on but since there's always something (player streams, tournaments, etc), and lots of free VODs too (for example, Proleague Korean VODs are free on eSportsTV youtube, I don't think a 24/7 stream is worth the investment. IMHO MOBA games are fun to play but extremely boring to watch. Feels like a waste of time to watch. FPS 1v1 is much better though, but there is still the time issue. Not related to the topic (just replying to this poster). For me, this is actually the reverse, heh. (Spoilered as to not to distract posters from the topic, unless you want to read.) + Show Spoiler + I find watching it fun (though thanks to Clairvoyance[sp?] and Tobi's commentaries/discussions recently) but I find playing MOBAs boring (especially in pubs) mainly because you're basically set in doing the same thing every game (plus the team aspect where you can't really control the entire game, compared to a 1v1 game, isn't something I like). I mean, when you pick a certain hero, then you're probably know you'll want to play the hero and that gets predictable and mundane IMO. It's just due to the fact you only control 1 unit in MOBAs (usually) and there isn't really any "build orders", I mean going different items isn't really a big deal compared to different build orders in RTS which greatly change the entire game (in comparison). There isn't much freedom or control IMO (compared to SC2). (Disclaimer - This is only in a "solo queue" pub environment. Obviously, if you're playing a MOBA in with a team, it's a different story since the gameplay in team vs team is much different than solo queue pub environment.) For SC2, I prefer playing it than watching it. From a viewer stand point, I feel like a lot of games just play out the same and it gets boring to watch (of course I do tune it for major tournaments and Proleague sometimes). Now if SC2 had Reavers and BW-style Muta micro again, I'd totally tune in to SC2 more. The only match ups I like to watch in SC2 is anything that doesn't involve Protoss, and anything that has to do with Terran (TvP). I feel like even in HotS, the matchups (besides Terran matchups) aren't that better than in WoL (HotS ZvZ is actually much worse due to lack of build variation compared to WoL ZvZ and lack of Muta micro and Scourge in BW ZvZ).

You're thinking about it all wrong. But the best way to do what the OP wants (24/7 channel) is to have something of a Blizzard owned TV channel. This would include all of the best content from around the internetz, being all major events (DH, MLG, GSL, IEM, etc) and other famous and well produced content (NASL, Day[9], SotG, Lo3, anything else you can think of). Things would be done professionally, with set times and schedules for everything. People would watch content based on where they are and what times they want to be awake, just like they do now. Content providers would have to get their content on air by directly working with Blizzard or TV service provider (whoever is running the channel if it's not Blizzard). Any event that wants to be anything in SC2 would have to work with Blizzard for scheduling and licensing purposes. Honestly it's a great idea, and it can launch SC2 into mainstream entertainment. In fact it's pretty much a necessity for that purpose. However it's sooooooooo not possible at this moment in time.

Even if you employ lots of people to do so i don't see enough viewers over the hours to justify the manpower.

It used to be they would do a live broadcast at like 1-2 am, and then play it on loop until noon, sometimes even later. Even now they do live shows in the morning, but it is endless loops except for when there's a trade or big news. Otherwise its just a live loop instead of a recorded loop. I fear the same might have to be the case for an esports 24/7 channel, which then kind of defeats the purpose when vods are available instead. Why watch a precorded show on loop when I can watch the vod live and skip boring content, or pause when I need to do something.

As for the naysayers, I think the IPL stream numbers spoke tons when it comes to the viability of a 24/7 stream (not to mention the IPL stream had the same like, 10-15 games on repeat.)

Millenium have 2 TV non-stop from 9.30am to 2.00 am and then replay and best-of all night ! It's totally free and 80% SC2 & LoL. OgamingTV (ironsquid crew) have stream all evenings, as well as a good & fun caster Zerator and some other things like WCS EU. I don't see the interest for them of a stream on real TV, internet is already full of content 24/24 7/7 and ad from streamwebsite like Dailymotion or Twitch pay enough. I would like to see starcraft content on real TV though, for the quality and to avoid lag problem ^^.

The list of content items he seems to want to implement seems like he just wanted to make the list as long as possible to appeal to more people. Who's going to make all of this content? Enough new stuff to fill up show every single day? This would be a full time job for a whole crew of people, and from the looks of the poll, if it were free, I don't see it being very high quality for the manpower needed to pull off such a project
