Not really sure if Idra compares to any pro sports guys.
Most of them got in shit for other things before getting fired (and sometimes rehired), but nobody springs to mind that was in shit for being such a quitter and a dickhead to the community.
I don't think Rodman or any of the other "badasses" ever walked out of a game before it was over and told the crowd to go fuck themselves, so please lets not insult those sports people.
Either he'll resurface, or he won't, people have come back from worse. Either way, SC2 will move on with or without him, and his presence won't make a difference on the grand scale.

EG has always said that they want to deliver an exciting/quality product to their fans and seeing him rage quit like that leaves a sour taste in every fans mouth. idk, i think its fairly common, i've quit games plenty of times before where i just got frustrated that a fight didn't go so well that i didn't even want to finish the game haha, not that i am in any way a pro gamer but on the casual level.. seems common enough from my experiences.
You are a casual player. He's a professional..........
The game i was referencing was probably one of the most important matches for idra in recent memory. The game was not even close to over, not even close. Think about it this way, WCS is the highest profile league this year, the amount of exposure and potential revenue from having idra qualify is huge. EG pays for everything, gives players a great salary and what does idra do in return? He rage quits because he had a huge advantage and let it get back to an even game.
Imagine the LeBron James just walking off the court with the game tied in the 4th quarter because he didn't feel like playing that game anymore. When you are getting paid to do something by a company (win games), if you don't even try you don't deserve your spot on that roster anymore.

This whole thing is a set up by EG (even the timing - letting the anouncement out while SOTG is on air) :D they kick off idra from EG for his behaviour -> they got ridiculously high hype in the scene (everyone talks about it, whole thing has large amounts of views) -> idra goes to Alliance -> even more hype -> idra is still unoficially on EG, but EG is not responsible for his behaviour-> win - win situation. It is a perfect plan, a masterpiece, a geniuses move. I applaud to whoever came up with this :D

I don't usually post anywhere, but it really shocks me that people are so surprised. Can't shut up.
No results at all in a long time, always bad attitude - i have been thinking for a loooong time "Who the hell want's to pay a guy like that?". This is business, if you can't deliver, you don't belong.
Next stop Incontrol.... Out with him, get some real talent. Or pay him only for the commentating, which i will give him a thumps up for!
And yes, i will properly be hated for this, but hey, it is what it is.

No need to imagine. Check his final series in Cleveland against Boston.
Also, the Polt game isn't likely to be the final straw, his post claiming he was paid (by EG) to treat his fans poorly, had to be. EG can't let that comment stand.

Earlier that very day I remember Demuslim saying on his stream "Idra's stream is nuts, the stream chat is just a massive troll fest, I've never seen anything like it" While Idra does have a bad temper, and does draw a lot of negative attention, it also needs to be taken into consideration that he has literally been harassed by 100's of people daily for years now.
The situation certainly feeds off itself and it is a vicious cycle, but I don't give a fuck who you are, that shit will wear you down. How many times a day do you think he reads some horrible things someone says about him and does not respond? So he has moments of weakness, so he is human, and sometimes loses his patience and speaks in anger. SO WHAT? I respect Idra for being honest, for being who he is, and putting so much of his time and his life out there for all of us to see. Are we not entertained? Is esports better or worse without a villain?
I'd bet a lot of the people talking shit about greg in this thread would snap in mere days if they received 1/2 the level of harassment Greg does. He is a bigger person than most of you, and not one damn person here hasn't got pissed off and said something they shouldn't have, many times.
Edit, I don't take any issue with EG, they as an organization have the right to decide who is on their team, they have a right to decide that a player is not presenting the image they want to portray. It's volume and long term barrage of personal attacks people make against Idra that bugs me. i 100% agree Except you dont see the other, oh i dont know, millions of celebrities across the world snapping like a twig every day. Those that do are often out of a job in seconds or become laughing stocks. Idra is not the only pro-gamer, or well known identity to get served shit every day, he's far from it. They all do. By your logic every well known personality who has been given shit is allowed to verbally rape people on a daily basis. Note: Idra is a celebrity in the SC2 world, its a fair comparison Uh, except you do see celebrities snap. Sorry to use American examples but, Christian Bale, Chevy Chase, Charlie Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Mel gibson, etc.. Chris Brown physically beat his woman and is still popular. And mostly these examples are over some petty things. Sure they sometimes end up "out of a job" but really what takes a hit is just the brand/recognition their name carries. so I think this is kind of off-base. Maybe not "every day" they snap, but certainly they do. How many times has a celebrity reacted poorly to the papparrazi or destroyed their cameras or something? Imagine the twitch chat being like the worst kind of papparrazzi, extremely scrutinizing and watching your every move. And in addition to that, we're an openly extremely rude group, shouting insults and the dumbest kind of interactions constantly 2 reasons this is a terrible comparison to celebrities. for one, a streamer has the means to ignore everyone who tries to harass him online. it's even more easy to ignore chat and skype is possible too. it's nothing like real life harassment. it's annoying but NOTHING like that other reason, those celebrities actually produce quality content, some of them even produce unbelievable art pieces. how the fuck does that compare to grack fields? and btw he could still earn thousands of dollars just off ad venue, because fanboys will give him the stream numbers. i remember Catz used to make like 5k per month off twitch tw and his numbers are nowhere near grack's. you people should stop pretending a treagedy happened. players get fired for less, and much faster too, not after 3 years, and Grack still has the ways to earn loads of money with a joke job. Actually there is a celebrity comparison which could be made. Kardashians. Or rather, inverse Kardashians. They are famous for being famous, but now they are using that fame to go "legit" with other things that are actual products/etc, making their brand into something sustainable beyond being famous. Idra inversely was famous for actually doing things and having some skill. Now he's well known because he's well known (and because in the past he was good at SC2). He's basically turned into a caricature and has no brand, and is now well known for being well known, basically the opposite of people like the Kardashians.
As far as the celebrity comparison goes, we actually do see them lashing out all the time. Whether it's making horrible statements in interviews, attacking camera men/paparazzi, acting out in public at clubs and parties. Not that I approve of it, but they are only human and people can only take so much shit before they give some back.

Luis Suarez leaving Liverpool would be comparable maybe. I mean, he bit people.

I'm surprised he lasted that long in EG.

Ehm incontrol is definately an asset to EG. One of the most awesome guys in the scene in my opinion. Him, qxc, grubby and a few others are really nice people for the most part (my impression). Some are not as great personalitywise but are decent/good and a few have pretty shitty attitudes but are great at the game. Idra isnt really in either of these categories imo so I guess that makes him special in some sense

He's really more a Dennis Rodman than a MJ
Time for Idra to go to North Korea? Maybe he will join one of their teams, who knows...

I think at some level Idra was always too valuable for eg and so they had no real leverage over him. He always seemed secure in his position no matter what stunt he pulled, but I guess by now eg finally outgrew idra and could have it be a sound business decision to let him go.

can i email the sponsors and tell them they a bunch of fuckers?

Hmm,
I like this post, i agree.

IdrA will find a new team or get a personal sponsor. He's one of the most valuable players in esports. Hell he should even sign with eMG.
|
It's a sponsor thing, EG wanted to keep him, he's been part of the "fam" for a long time now, there was no such thing as EG being tired of him. It was just a thing of sponsors. they asked EG to fire him or they would go. that's it. there nothing like celebs can do w/e they want as long as they win. Its been a long time since Idra had not win a single match, yet they kept him this long. One thing about sponsoring is that they pay for some content, that is directly related to them be cause that content wouldn't be on air without the money they put in (best example of this are RADIO stations). Sponsors didn't want to be linked with Idra's big mouths, regardless of whether it is really an offense of anything (nobody gives a shit about his bad mouthing, its actually very entertaining). As long as sponsors will be the main source of financial support to E-sports, E-sport won't be free ; the sponsored people will have to maintain a line of idea that the sponsor endorses whether its good or bad.

One of the reasons he commentates so well is because he plays at a decent level himself. For which the team provides the opportunity.
