This is a list of games that we believe are the best in HotS, with an attached VOD or replay whenever possible. You are encouraged to make suggestions in this thread, so that we can make this list more complete. Please include a VOD link when you are suggesting a game. The Best Games Thread Curatorial Board™ will make all final decisions on whether a game is added to the list (we may have Korean bias). We hope you enjoy this thread!

I wonder what happened to the VOD of Leenock vs Innovation Game 2? I know it used to be on MLG.tv, then the whole website got revamped and its impossible to find any old VODs... and I still have no idea why it was never uploaded to their Youtube channel.
I saw a pretty awesome game between Catz and I think TubbyTheFat (90% sure) during this MLG. If I remember correctly it was on the MLGSC2A stream and the map was "Derilict Watcher". Does anyone know where to find the VOD of this match?
Why do people think Hyun vs Polt on Akilon Wastes was a game worth watching?
Polt turtles on 4 bases with widow mines because he only has to defend 1 choke which is defended by ~15 widow mines. Hyun can't counter him so polt suicides his bio until he gets ravens and battlecruisers out.
More the case of a poorly designed map than a great game.

Well I really dont know what does "The best games of HoTS" mean - The ones with so many actions on the map, the ones with the perfect executed strategy and other many examples.
Because of this, I am not sure what to recommend in general. As for today I would say that I watched 2 prefect PvT games from First at all levels - defense, executed strategy, timings, harass - overall just stable, dominant PvT play against Fantasy.

In terms of fun i actually preferred Polt's moneysaving marauder hellbat allin.

Look at the top 2012 games list and see if you think a game could break into that list. As for First vs. Fantasy, I feel First stomped Fantasy and while Fantasy played well, he didn't hold a candle to First.
MLG winter: Flash vs innovation Game 3 TvT (Whirlwind)
ATC: Week 3 Root vs Millenium - Ace Match Feast vs Sage PvP (BelShir Vestige) Week 7 Quantic vs Millenium - Game 1 Dayshi vs Hyun TvZ (Whirlwind)
Ok I'm a Millenium fan, but these games are really worth it.
GSTL Preseason: Hoseo vs MVP - Jjiakji vs Dream TvT (Whirlwind)
Great great great TvT, quite same style as Flash vs Innovation (speedivac fest) but with nukes and ravens. :D
Numericable M-House Cup 2: Dayshi vs Squirtle second bo3 game 1 (Akilon Wastes) Dayshi vs Squirtle second bo3 game 3 (Cloud Kingdom) Great bo3, Dayshi "right-in" style (macro and constant aggression) against pure defense from Squirtle
HSC VII: Tuzer vs Goswser Game 1 (Newkrink Precinct TE) not really great but so much lol. Stephano vs Goswser Game 1 (Star Station)
I am ashamed to say it, but Bly vs Uzer WCS EU Ro16 game 2 of loser's match was actually... one of the most entertaining ZvZ I have ever watched.
Probably a bit similar to that Suppy game where he transfused the ultralisk a thousand times. Not the best play from either side, but damn well entertaining.
sloppy as all hell by Bomber, but entertaining none the less.
oh yeah this was so great
can you add a spoiler for each game which tells you what exactly is happening or what makes it one of the best games? like " really close","basetrade" or "longest game ever"
Thank you for this game, it is indeed epic. Such a struggle from both players from beginning to the end, I really like Swarm Hosts against Terran since they are rarely used(because Mech isn't used as much... ) and I like that I see a bit different army composition in TvZ.
This whole game was pretty much Terran mech vs. Zerg "mech", with great positioning, attacks and multitasking going all over the map, I really like it.
This was easily one of the most exciting games ever played, that made me insanely hyped for what HOTS TvT is going to be. (welp that didnt end up as hoped :S)
It was all kinds of epic to watch, all the strategic movements around the map, the split decisionmaking and the Hype.

Well, nerfing Hellbats sure is step in the right direction. Yeah, I don't really like TvT(or any mirror for that matter) and still that game was damn amazing.

On July 15 2013 18:19 Aunvilgod wrote: What are criteria for games being best games? I guess it is more most entertaining than best played games?
Look at the best games of 2012 list. Or just think of Jjakji vs Leenock g1. sC vs Nestea. Games that give you that kind of feeling. A combination of entertaining, well played and sometimes highly unusual (Like True vs Fantasy).
That style is the style that you must use in FFA it hots. It's all about the efficiency and free units. I actually played a ZvZvZvZ FFA once and basically held off 2v1 maxed armies attacks 50% of the game (like 15-20 minutes at least) with just towers and that unit comp vs ultra/queen from one and mass hydra/roach at the same time with a spattering of broodlords. Once players understand it better, I think we will be seeing more of it being strived for at least in the midgame and late game.
I just watched Innovation vs Taeja... I can't watch anymore today. It's too much epicness for 1 sitting. I must play some arcade for a bit to cool down.

Added Ryung vs TheStC, Innovation vs DRG games 1-3, and Innovation vs hyvaa. Innovation has now played 15 of the best HotS games of the year. Second place is Flash with just 7.
I personally love the fluidity and APM of Golden and Vibe.
I think it would help this thread a lot that people post links along with the description of matches. description alone just sends people on a wild chase, which kind of isn't helpful for noobs, and kind of annoying. The person recommending it has already seen it, which means they should have the link. one copy paste from that person saves a whole lot of effort and time for everyone who takes your recommendation to heart.
how is this not listed here ? curious vs innovation .. i cant even believe this is just qualifiers the quality of the games were for grand finals game one was highly tactical
these games are so high level . if you think drg vs innovation is the best tvz of the year so far .. think again after seeing this
EDIT:
If DRG took innovation down in the mid to late game Curious made innovation cry in the very late game
i always thought bio-mine was not positional ... after seeing game 1 && 2 .. i cant find a marine-tank game more positional and tactical than this
No new games here since Serral vs Supernova? Really? Drg vs Inno was an amazing series, but I dont think they are all that much better than every game since September 14.
Do you really think none of those games worthy, or do you just have to step it up?
Flash vs. Curious on Bel'shir was incredible from yesterday in IEM, abusing vipers to their full potential against mech. Waiting for the vods to be uploaded. I think some parts might be missing the sound tho...

life vs naniwa G1 and G3 from IEM NY finals MUST be in this list!
the games were absolutely insane. constant action throughout the game. great engagements, great micro. it was definitely one of the best pvz's I have ever seen.
I would suggest Fantasy vs Sleep from WCS KR Challenger League RO24. The whole series is good, but game three is by far the best of the three: http://www.gomtv.net/2013wcs3/vod/80936/?set=3
Unfortunately not free for everyone, but those with a ticket should definitely watch it!

It deserves special mention for so bad it's good, or so bad it's terrible.
MMA vs. Jaedong game nr.2 at the WCS Season 3 Finals was an amazing back and forth game, lots and lots of excitement. The best game I've seen in a while. A few mistakes happened on both side I guess, but who am I to judge that?
Since those games aren’t listed yet: WCS Korea S3 - RO16 Group C: Jjakji vs SoO Game 2 on Frost - VOD WCS Korea S3 - 5th Place Matches: Jjakji vs Trap Game 3 on Frost - VOD
And it might have been shadowed by the Dear vs Maru serie, but: WCS S3 Finale - Grand Finale: Dear vs Soulkey Game 2 on Whirlwind was very very good too!
I just watched Maru vs Dear. It's quite fun with Maru's hyper aggression and Dear's inspired positioning of high templar for storm drops and flanks. I would promote it as the top TvP HotS game I've seen.
Just bumping in to echo what everyone else is saying ; D. Maru vs Dear was probably the best TvP series I have seen, ever, from a skill point of view. AMAZING play from both players.
Trying to find the rest of the VODs for Maru vs Dear but struggling They are out now :D best games of SC2 for me
Thanks for including the links! I have been travelling for a few days and stuck in meetings and I really appreciate just being able to come into this thread to be able to find some games to watch with ease.
A must for any Protoss fan! Best play I ever see. Not necessarily macro games which are overhyped anyway here but there is some of that too but just almost mistake free Protoss playing varied strategies worth watching.
I look at Dear as best protoss. Has it all. Has MC agro micro and instinct without his over commitment. Has Her0s harass long game and phoenix play in him. Has partinGs HT control. Has Rain macro and patience if need be. Watch it all at link above.
every time i watch it i still cannot handle the Taeja v Innovation game on Newkirk Precinct from the WCS Season 2 finals. Oh my goodness that was an absurd game. gogo Taeja!

I just watched this game. Such a sick back and forth, can't even tell who is going to win til the last couple of minutes. that HSM dodge on the Thors was on point.
While watching Maru vs Dear g1, I thought of something oldschool boxer-esque. Since he didn't scout the CC first, what if a terran player played normal 1 base style but after orbital lifted and landed their main cc in the nat to make the protoss think they were 2base and then the protoss think he's safe. Then a min or two later, bam 1 base all in hits and rapes the fuck out of the protoss. lol

It would be grossly inefficient to stop mining for that long when you could just deny scouting

You lose about 100-200 minerals I would guess, and the misinformation is extremely more powerful than just denied information where the player may attempt to scout more or play safer etc.
Remember back in the early days on WOL some protosses started doing that fake nexus 4 gate shit. That alone cost 100 minerals and a waste of the other 300 minerals being banked inside the nexus before the cancel as well.

The entire game is about denying and giving misleading information. Lifting your main into your natural just to give the illusion you are 2-basing is never going to be good because it'll weaken your all-in so much. Hell, you can just build a bunker at your natural's ramp/choke and you get exactly the same job done.
Sora vs HyuN series for the Red Bull Battlegrounds qualifiers was a great PvZ worth watching. High intensity games mixed with late-game situations where every move could cost the game. LR thread seems to agree this was one of the best PvZ series of 2013.

bait the photon, medivac up the ramp?
With what? Marines? They can have a Colossus out lol.
The terran 1 base all in builds are pretty diverse. The 1-1-1 build was the standard for deviation. I'm sure that a pro could fake the expand, gather enough intel to make the correct decision on what to all in with. And since bunkers are free, it's even easier to pretend like you only have a couple marines while the rest of the shit is hiding.
I mean it could even be a build not meant to outright win, something like banshee rush while you actually secure an expansion with a lead.
I suggest sOs vs. Jaedong game 1 in the WCS Global Finals.. first of all just the weight of the game, and the crazy back and forth momentum and everything. just simply an awesome game on a big stage.

Why not? Does being broadcasted by a corporation that wants to earn money make the game less good? Being available for free to everybody is not a requirement for a great game.
Also, Scarlet v Bomber RedBull Battlegrounds NYC Game 3 is probably the most excellent, nailbiting low econ ZvT in a long time; I think they went from minutes 25 to 40 both under a hundred supply.

Sometimes it bothers me when people call themselves pros. He made a total of like 3 vipers and never built anymore. Abduct, blinding cloud, running locusts into tanks for splash, not taking closest bases to terran first, not trying to drop lings or whatever enough. So much fail.

I'm 2nding this. That was a crazy game. I was sure bomber was going to take it easily at every step of the game but scarlett some how managed to push back every time. The end was a big surprise (or maybe two).
edit- the only thing that bugged me about the game is how when bomber moved out onto the 3rd (below the cliff) and scarlett began running slow banes towards the drop, she pulled back away from the 2 leftover marines up there when if she put them up to the edge and they exploded, they would actually splash the pile below.

HyuN has won almost 100k playing Starcraft II, of course he's a pro. He won 14 Bo9 in IPL fight club against the best players in the world. Also he took second place in one of the closest GSL finals ever.
Making what you think is the wrong decisions in one single game, that disqualifies him from being a pro?

Cause we all know one minor game out of a sea of hundreds HyuN has played is the definition of a player. It may not have been perfectly played, but one game is not indicative of whether a player is pro or not, considering every player has played flawed games or been stomped one time or another.
This thread probably isn't the place for debate but I'll just say this. Hyun is a korean pro gamer on a team who makes money playing the game. Goody is just some random foreigner who doesn't make the cut to a B-teamer. Hyun should be losing to him almost never. The fact that he has over and hour long and most of the resources on the map to figure out how to crack this and does not, displaces the credibility of Hyun's skill.
So either you have to admit ravens are just OP (which I actually agree they are in mass) or that Hyun isn't really a good pro player, he's just a mechanical macro pro player. This distinction is actually what I considered very important towards the end of BW between pros. Some of these guys just knew how to handle every situation and instance because they theory craft and play around with the engine and put in that extra brain and skill. Most of them were just reciting build orders and being fast.
Thanks a lot for making this thread. I haven't been playing Starcraft one in almost 490 days and recently got back into it, and having a thread like this is a blessing!

I think this is a good example of underestimating your opponent and getting lazy once map control is retained (yes, pros do it too). Hyun, after gaining the lead, had very poor decision making from my perspective. Instead of pausing for a minute and thinking "what breaks GoOdy's tank line?" he said "gee, ill just make 45 infestors". He also made no effort to deny GoOdys 5th or take top right at the end of the game. His line could have been overcome with mass air, in my opinion. With army suppy tied up in tanks, Hyun could have won with mass air. Ravens are powerful, but ive been overcome by mass corruptor spread (even with 10+ ravens) with BL to clean up.

I wasn't able to watch much of November because I was busy rewatching September and October. =/

Also, Scarlet v Bomber RedBull Battlegrounds NYC Game 3 is probably the most excellent, nailbiting low econ ZvT in a long time; I think they went from minutes 25 to 40 both under a hundred supply.
I agree, it's still a good game, no matter if behind a pay wall.
And here's VoD link for Scarlett vs Bomber game 3:
I'm 2nding this. That was a crazy game. I was sure bomber was going to take it easily at every step of the game but scarlett some how managed to push back every time. The end was a big surprise (or maybe two).
edit- the only thing that bugged me about the game is how when bomber moved out onto the 3rd (below the cliff) and scarlett began running slow banes towards the drop, she pulled back away from the 2 leftover marines up there when if she put them up to the edge and they exploded, they would actually splash the pile below.
This game is an absolute must watch. The whole game piles up on intensity and reach such a critical point BUT THEN HOLY WATCH IT.
That kind of games actually makes me wanna play SC2 again

It seems there is a lack of tournaments etc as of late, so there really isn't anything until 2014 starts afaik. Those show matches last weekend weren't worth watching at all.

We had ASUS ROG NorthCon 2013 and GSL Hot6ix Cup... I guess you could find a couple of great games there. Just need to dig through LR threads / recommendations...
Haha! Just watched Kas vs Tod from NationWars, Ukraine vs France, game two. If anyone thought every proxy was done in TvP, check out this game! I hope the VOD comes out soon.
Basically HerO went for a soul train from 2 base that lasted 10 mins long, twice. In the end probes were pulled, JD was long distance mining from 3rd and initial immortals had 100+ kills combined.

FanTaSy showed off a sick bio-mech hybrid composition that was never really seen before and he used it beautifully to win the game.
the build is really cool but the game itself is someone onesided.
I agree but the reason behind the one-sided nature of the game is what makes it awesome. Life must have started questioning his sanity at one point. FanTaSy was just completely impossible to read. It's really difficult to respond to what your opponent is doing when the Terran is using the entire unit tree as his composition. lol
I feel obligated to nominate the last game of WCS AM tonight, which was + Show Spoiler +
ByuL vs Revival game 3
The game was so ridiculous that I sat there, staring at the screen for minutes on end, instead of live reporting. Couldn't think of anything to write, there were no words to describe it.

Indeed.
Probably the most ridiculous game of 2014 so far... for both all the right AND wrong reasons. LOL
It should've ended like 3 or 4 times before that eventual conclusion but... it... didn't....... wtf did I just watch. :O
Thank you for updating Wax, this thread is marvelous. I'm surprised nobody pointed out the winner's match game 2 from gsl ro16 group B. + Show Spoiler +
Rain (P) vs Rogue (Z) from Proleague on Frost has to go on the first page. Fantastic climax when Rain was knocking on the zerg doorstep with a huge army. Also Vipers+Mutas new meta...

VortiX vs Jjakji, game 5 on Heavy Rain during the Vasacast Invitational finals was pretty crazy! Don't know if people agree with me that it qualifies though.
I can't provide a VoD yet but Snute plays a BO5 against Polt for a French tournament, the fourth game was just amazing. I'll edit my post when the VoD will be avaible.

IIRC TvT was often really good
TvT I think is also my favorite mirror match up to watch in SC2.
Unless swarmhosts obviously, then ZvZ becomes best match up by far.

I just want to say "Thank you for this thread"! There's only one thing: would it be possible to upload replays of the games, too? I really prefer to study replays instead of watching VoDs - you simply see a lot more.
Taeja vs Impact, game 7 Liquid vs Axiom in the ATC on King Saejong Station was a pretty sweet back and forth TvZ, worth a place on the list imo! Khaldor and Take casted it.

Scarlett vs DRG Game 2. While it's true that it's only a great game because of who's playing protoss, that alone makes it deserve a spot I think. And the VOD is finally uploaded.
Think Bbyong mech vs Classic in SPL semifinal deserve to be here -not everyday you see mech beating protoss. The fact he lost with the same strat against Parting and Rain shouldn't make us forget how remarkable this first game was...

Hey guys The games in GSL RO32 Group D with Bbyong vs Stats were awesome but I just cant find the replay for game 1 on Nimbus if anyone can find it Please help me find it!
I like this style to check it out some more to have in my backpocket. Bio into armorys for Viking and Thor support. Very Bbyongvja esc <3
Zerg forgot about nearly ten high energy infestors and Welmu didn't build any extra buildings to extend his life, and so he lost to a handful of cracklings. Still a funny ending

GL HF 20 min no rush... And with both players making mistakes when the 200/200 battle ensues, why would this be a "best game of"?
mmm, it could get in on being an innovative game. Personally, I hadn't seen that game before and I'm glad I just watched it. Bio/mech TvP where the Terran actually wins? Hell yeah.
Bbyong is really growing on me despite how much I disliked him when he transitioned over.
No sure of the process to submit a game for the next month. But here is a great one: Game 3 of Jaedong vs HerO from WEC Championships 2014. Game 3 starts at 1:48 http://www.twitch.tv/breakersc2/b/565693848
Id like to nominate Bomber vs. Check (TvZ) - Group C Ro16 - WCS America 2014 Season 3 game 3. The akwardness of the situation and qxc's comentating was so amusing.
A game that people who enjoy TvT must watch. It was a match with pretty high stakes and high intensity, and it really delivered in the later portions of the game.

Game starts at a slow and awkward tempo with Yoda taking the early build order advantage. Eventually, he contains MMA on 5 bases using viking/raven/tanks/turrets but MMA breaks out in a fashion that we don't see very often. After that, an exciting back and forth seeker missile war ensues. This was nerve-wracking for both sets of fans

Game two of Sacsri vs Polt in the HSC X Qualifier just played was awesome. Only german commentary, sadly, but the game was awesome. Fights for all bases around Nimbus, SH vs bio. Very active!
So since the new LOTV mod is out, lots of people are playing and uploading videos (amatuer/pros etc). Is there a thread somewhere where we can post those?

For some reason the Bly vs CheeseKing game (along with the whole cast of that day) was taken down from Twitch. I'm contacting ConnSi to see if they can re-upload it somehow because I really think it needs to be cataloged for our enjoyment. I'll update the thread when I hear something back.
WCS EU Qualifier #3 Lillekanin vs Minato game 3 is certainly worth watching. When the video is uploaded I'll upload here too. 2 hour game, but fun the entire time. Mass ravens... Suggestive comsat scans might be involved too ^^
Ok it's Starbow and not HoTS and just after a little "IMBA" patch, it's also an Archon mode game three "newbs" versus one of the best Starbower, not a serious tournament.
But just watch it to the end, it's awesome just by the sheer fun factor.
Hey guys, i love this thread, spent a lot of time watching those games, but i wonder, is somebody going to continue uploading games? Nothing has happend since the beginning of the year and it would be a tragedy to loose these collection of best games

would it help if in the LR threads, instead of just doing the usual, 'don't not see no matter what', 'good game', ... poll an extra option was be added, like : "OMG put this in the best games of HotS thread already!!!"?
I mean there is surely a way to make the people that updated this thread 's life easier?
Does KFC 2015 Season 2 Global Qualifiers tournament have a support team that can answer questions or deal with issues concerning this tournament ? Please let me know asap:
