Title says it all. I rarely see him tweet or get mentioned. this is a trend for pretty much all of 2013 thus far.
I thought he was a great dude and a good player!
Does anyone know whats he's up to?
Is he still a member of TL? Will we ever see him again?
I really just wanna know whats going on with this incredibly manner person!
UPDATE FROM SHETH:

Eaxtly, it had links to any relevant information, and was closed for a good reason. A second thread of similar nature will likely end the same way

Actually I closed the other thread because it ended with terrible "source!?!" and "inb4" jokes. Leaving this open until posting becomes "meh" again
|
Ah, I figured nothing has changed since then, but you have the power ^_^
Edit: Also I apologize if my reply sounded rude, too many bad games of Counter Strike today
|
This thread may be the same topic, but after skimming it; I don't really see an answer. I know you probably think you contributed to this thread, but you did not even take the time to suggest a response, likely only ran a quick search with the title. thanks I guess if im way off, but all I see is puma discussion
Edit: in response to astroorion; I didnt mean to come off as rude in response. I just felt the need to defend my post! Sorry man!

Sheth had wrist and weight problems so he took a break from Starcraft however I haven't heard an update in a while.

You are 100% correct, I did a simple search which usually can answer such a simple question, but I didn't get the right thread. He did a blog update a while ago which I can't seem to find, but this Reddit comment seems to be the most up to date

Almost too long I think!

hmm this does say a great deal about the situation. It makes me wonder, why is it just these short updates from him? seems weird to say but it feels like he/teamliquid are taking advantage of esports dollars to support someone who (while trying to get better and who will eventually contribute I'm sure) will eventually stall out and not offer the same thing they once did. Wouldent this support be better invested in someone else?

I'm no professional, but I'm assuming since he's on break he's not getting paid at all, or very little. Maybe if he was streaming or contributing he might be getting paid, but I don't think he is.

Agreed, if he hopes to come back now, its going to be purely of the hype of who he once was. I want an answer! I want a convincing reason why he has been gone so long!!

That Source thread was really fun.
I thought Sheth was gonna do more blogs but he hasn't since like Frebrurrauary.

It would be based on the contract he had signed with teamliquid, something none of us here would have any knowledge of as TL likes to keep them private between themselves and the players.

I don't know what exactly he is up to but he still posts on reddit and was even in the Blizzard Community AMA on /r/starcraft.

I think TL should at least give an update on his health/gaming even if it is just a very vague update
For instance, "Sheth is taking an indefinite leave of absence for __________________ "

This! I want an official statement from either him or TL!
I saw a tonne of talent in this man, it hurts me that I cannot support it!

Sometimes people just have "life" issues it would seem and need to get out no matter how they get out. I know Sheth has showed up here and there every so often, but the dude is obviously got something going on and I wish him the best. I would love to see him come back and do well, but I have faith he is doing what Sheth needs to do.

Hi guys. I wrote two more blogs that I didn't put up, because they just didn't feel quite right. I know I need to put out more information like "Well I'm retired" or "Its looking positive". But right now my hands just aren't at the point I can come back to play and honestly I'm scared to say I'm retired. Its a scary thing. I don't want to leave e-sports and I don't want to go into casting, but at the same time, my hands hurt way too much when I play sc2 to consider going back to it atm. As for diet, its still fairly similiar to my last blog, So nothing great on that front. Just in a place where I'm really sad about my hands, because SC2 was my life. I'm glad you're still around, Sheth! It's too bad hand pain is keeping you from what you love, and I hope you get better.

What's important right now is that you focus on getting better; whether that means coming back to competitive sc2 or not, we your fans will always support you. If you do end up focusing on a career outside of esports, just promise us you'll come back to cast an event every once and a while ^^
Fighting~

I might be out of the loop but did your pain ever get diagnosed? I know I have dequervains and I have the option of getting surgery to release the sheath, I was under the impression Carpal tunnel also had the option of surgery, not sure if you have carpal or what though so I can't really speak.
|
Hopefully you recover soon Sheth! Best wishes.
|
<3 Sheth. I want you to come back to SC2, but if it doesn't work out still <3 and I'm sure others feel the same.
|
Don't you worry Sheth, we will still cheer for you even if you'd make your comeback 2040 with the release of starcraft 3. Get well, recover and return when you are at full strength, just don't rush it please.

I've went to several doctors, who all have no idea. Anti-inflamatories seem to remove the pain. (pain killers remove the pain...) However they can't give me any other ideas or tips, other then I've been told "stop doing whatever your doing" .. So yea just assuming its RSI of some sort.

Ah I love casting. I'd love to do an event with casting. But just I don't want to do it full time is all. I'll want to stay in E-sports somehow someway regardless, but I just don't think it'll be by being a full time caster.

good luck man, it's all about being comfortable. nerve damage and irritation is very tough to diagnose and deal with, it could be a severe spine problem, it could be just bad posture. good luck, i miss seeing your great attitude... train with tlo, be on that foreigner hope tip.

First of all: Wow. You continue to amaze me,is it wrong to feel awesome to have gotten this response from you!?
This pretty much buries everything I was saying!
I sincerely hope you achieve everything you want; be that getting better in your hands, or passing all your classes (as im sure you will) and graduating to maybe pursue another career!
I just really wanted to know where you were at!

I would recommend contacting Husky and/or Day9, I am positive they would do a one shot commentary with you! maybe you can measure the response from there!

Sheth, I would love to see you become the Bob Ross of Starcraft and start coaching.
|
I broke one wrist and had carpal tunnel syndrome in the other. Do lots of wrist stretches if you don't already, about every few hours.. maybe find something small and soft to squeeze. even if not playing many games, it might help them get back some stamina quicker. Rest is still the best medicine of course.
Also, I believe TLO went though a wrist injury as well, maybe he would have some tips for changing positioning, etc. All the best Sheth. Great to see you not giving up that easy.

It would be great to see you cast in the meantime. I'm sure you would have no trouble becoming a community caster and just cast the odd tournament when you can. Keep positive man! Don't be a stranger

I hope you get better Sheth, and I think people all around the world hope it aswell. Take it easy man
|
Sheth hope everything goes alright for you, you are much needed in this community than you thought!
|
Taking a break for this long is more or less a competitive death sentence given all the young, hungry talent and absurd levels of competition. But I hope Sheth comes back to cast and just be a general eSports personality.
|
I had hand/wrist problems when I was young. As I've gotten older, I haven't had any, despite using my hands more.
What has always made my hands feel great is lifting. Particularly Power Cleans and Deadlifts doing 10+reps/set. That ache when you hands are telling you to put the bar down is glorious. You also might want to try some Barbell Complexes. Google Dan John for some good ones.
Finally, don't just stop playing Starcraft. A basic rule of recovery is to try to responsibly exercise your injured area. Play calmly for half or hour today and build up.
No, I'm not a doctor, and yes what worked for me is profoundly anecdotal, but you should at least try. It won't hurt you. You were always a top 10 foreigner! I always enjoyed rooting against you PvZ because I hated how effective you made your lings!~

I miss you Sheth. You're one of the few Zergs I root for! I would love for you to come back soon and kick some ass but more importantly I wish you and your health the best.

He streams still. I'm pretty sure he was in a tournament recently too.

Come back, Sheth ): There were points where he was the best American player, I miss those days.
|
I think he plays a little bit, because I mean he is still on TL. But I think he is still recovering from his wrist injury, and I know he was trying to lose weight.
|
You should definitely come back ^^
|
Have you tried playing SC2 with your xbox controller? There's that guy Cress who does it. I guess it would be a very different experience, but it may be a way to at least play a bit without the same pain. I'm not sure if someone can compete well in GM and pro level with it, but it's something...
|
i hope you have a good recovery and can come back in the future! I miss you man, it was good to hang out at MLGs and such. If you ever decide to stream some other game just for fun I'll still be there to MOD your channel
|
Oops wrong thread again..sigh..
|
I had really bad issues with my hands just like you. (The problem didn't arise unless I stressed them)
The solution I found was to do pull ups. Keep in mind there are no muscles in your hand. Just in your arm. By doing pull ups you both stretch your arm muscles and improve your endurance.
Door mounted pull up bars are $20 from walmart.

Sheth it's great to hear from you man, I miss seeing your cheery smile on stage and your wonderful demeanour <3
You mentioned "I can play on xbox controller..." - have you considered trying to see how you can go with an Xbox controller playing SC2? There was a fellow who was streaming SC2 using the xbox controller (I'll try dig up his stream) and he seemed to be doing quite nicely. At least; to a level that allowed him to comfortably play.
Obviously I know it's not going to really have the same control/power that a keyboard/mouse offers that would allow you to "win MLG" or something big like that - but if you were looking to stay in the scene and (for example) coach/stream/etc, it could be handy to at least have some potential way to play the game to show students/help teammates etc etc. From what I remember, the guy who played with the xbox was in masters on NA.
Here's the stream: http://www.twitch.tv/sc2cress

Blizzard needs to invest some money into whatever company makes the best "safe" gaming peripherals. Starcraft is at the point where it's as competitive and dangerous as a real sport, but doesn't have the awareness to help protect the people.

Perhaps in the near future (next 5-10 years) eye-tracking technology will have reached a point where it's viable to play games competitively using it in some capacity. Or perhaps we'll just be able to plug our brains in directly
I can imagine there being a fuss over it though if that time ever comes, with the mouse/keyboard purists not wanting to give them up.

This is thought provoking. I have to ask you. Why is that responsibility on Blizzard? The viewers make the money for tournaments. Shouldent we start this sort of program?

aw, that was disheartening to read, hope you get better soon Sheth!!
I'm just curious about one thing though, sorry if its ignorant, but is it possible that the posture in which you play (keyboard on your lap) just isn't good for the hands?

@Liquid'Sheth : I hang around with dancers a lot, and these guys tend to have tons of physical injuries. From the parallel stuff what tends to work quite well is: - Acupuncture/Shiatsu (only a few places, and apparently it hurts quite a lot when they do it). - Yoga stretch/breathing exercises (really long term), but that might not help you :/ - Hot stone massage for reduction of scar tissue (might have some sheath of scar tissue hanging around nerves it shouldn't, dunno) Also, mental state seems to be really important so I would advise you to get involved into something quick (casting, or shows for noobs or advanced people, or deep replay analysis show, dunno). These things helped people I personally know with spine problems, articulation problems, surgery problems etc. Myself for my dance practice induced pains (still quite mild) I often go for swedish massage and electric massage. I will go try hot stone massage for some scar tissue problems. I had had hand nerves problems but nothing that bad that a few weeks/month of taping and being careful + occasional electric massage wouldn't resolve it.

NOOOT_T i hope everything works out and your hands start getting better, it'll suck to have my favorite player retire but gotta do what you gotta do i hope u find something that helps
|
I miss Sheth As a player (nowhere near as good) who had to switch away from Starcraft because of hand issues, it's really sad to see a player who the game meant so much more to also have to give it up.
|
Best of luck in your recovery! Hope to see you back in the scene soon, it could be a little more positive.
|
I miss Sheth Manner bear ftw!
|
Sheth, You gotta move on. Your hands are only gonna get worse without surgery. Even if you were to get it, you probably shouldn't be a full time SC2 pro afterwards. Why invest so much of your life in an esport dominated by Koreans? Look out for yourself, brother.
|
Sheth, I was actually looking just this week to see what's been up with you as are one of my favorite personalities no question. I've actually drawn inspiration from your weight loss goals to power my own (15 down, 50 more to go haha). Having suffered from chronic shoulder pain as well, I can understand how awful it must feel, but I'm sure it'll work out. Keep trying to be as positive as you can and I'll keep cheering for you in all you do!

Very sad to hear, I have been following Sheth for years, never really posted anywhere though.
Great guy, great player, all the best for the future, lovable sheth

Good luck man, really hoping things work out for you in the end.

It's possible to both game and lose weight: in fact a large part of sheth's first blog was bout his struggle with weight and attempt to overcome it.

Sheth, no matter what you're still my favorite SC2 player of all time.
Hope everything works out well for you, and will always be rooting for you. GL mannerbear!

Yeah I hate threads like this, they remind me to miss Sheth.
He's such a friendly and brilliant player, I hope he comes back.
|
He's on Team Liquid. About a secure job as possible. You can perform years without results too without any repurrepercussions. I would too take advantage of the system he earned himself into.
|
I too would lov e to know whats up with sheth, mind updating op with an eventual response?
|
Sheth is it possible that the way you keep your keyboard on your lap might cause some of your wrist issues? Maybe altering your posture in a way that causes discomfort? Also even if you do t go to the gym and get super fit would a few simple forearm, wrist, and hand excercises help? I would imagine strengthening your forearms would be crazy beneficial for any progamer.
|

He's not taking advantage of the situation. in his blog saying he was taking a break, i think he said Liquid Nazgul offered to give him a salary but Sheth kept saying he didn't have to. And I may not be the biggest Team liquid fan, but even i can admit that slamming their players won't get you anywhere. TLO didn't have a lot of results, stepped up his game for hots, and is on fire now. Zenio has defeated amazing Zergs in proleague. Good to know that you would take advantage of another persons kindness, but thats NOT what sheth is doing.
|
|
Hi Sheth, have you considered doing exercises for your hands to increase strength? I´ve heard that for some that helps Anyways, hope you get better and come back to rock the scene with a keyboard in your lap once again!
|
slow ramp man! You have to take what you did and literally quarter it and play like that, its hard cos you know you can play faster, condition will improve over time . . . but you gotta give it time. as for the weight, 20 mins in morning and night everyday day of walking/jogging/swimming which ever you want ull see good results in 30 days . . BUT YOU MUST NOT STOP!!! k keeping moving at all costs. Those are the costs!
|
I wish you all the best Sheth, take care <3 I'm looking forward to seeing you smile, whether as player, caster or whatever eoad you're going to take. Fighting!
|
Sheth, i think you have two options if you want to return to esports, either you become a caster or some other role that would keep you there. I'm sure you would find something ! But if u want to ever be a player again, you need to loose weight and strenghten your wrists and arms, get yourself a personal trainer that will know what kind of exercise you should do, to not end up more injured as you did when you tried by yourself. You do not have the proper knowledge on how to do it nor does the doctors, but believe me, getting stronger might be the one thing, that will help you doing what you love again. What you need is a lot of will and belief in yourself! And from the eating part, only thing you need to stop is sweets, sweety drinks, junk food and really fatty food. If you exercise, just not eating such foods along with proper exercise (again i'm positive you need a personal trainer for this to be successful) and you can get lean, strong and back to progaming! Also you have to realize, if you succeed, what you don't want is to go back to your old habits once you do. If you succeed, it has to become somewhat of a lifestyle change for you ! I really hope you take some advice, no pills, no doctors will help you more than just eating somewhat right and doing guided exercise that will not injure you, but slowly improve. Once you will start seeing results, you will not want to go back, trust me

I remember watching this guys stream while he competed in a playhem tournament. It was fascinating to watch his progress from his POV and his thoughts going through the tournament and he had a really friendly attitude with his viewers. Probably one of the most interesting and informative user streams I have seen.
Hope I will get the opportunity to watch him compete again some day.
GL Sheth!

I hope you feel that we still love you Sheth!
I hope you read this. Because it sound familiar in a way. I can play with a controller but starcraft hurts me a lot. How are things like doing the dishes or preparing food for you?
I've have a sirious arm injury myself. I was studying to become a professional drummer when I got a lot of pain in my arms. It first got missdiagnosed as an overburdening by a cesar therapist. She helped me a lot (together with a fysio therapist) on hoe to relax and play drums correctly. But I started playing to soon twice and got a lot of pain again twice. And not just in my arm but from my neck to wrists in both arms. Eventhough the injury was just in my right arm.
Every one I know gave me differennt advice on what to do and who to see. It made me do none of these because the all told me. "No one could help but this guy fixed everything in a flash."
Last year I went to a hospital to see a orthopedic surgeon (because my ex didn't stop nagging, she practically saved me). He did a lot of research (also send me to a neuro surgeon). After everything was inconclusive he send me to the Hague, to a special poli clinic which specialises in dancers and musicians. He was also a orthopedic surgeon and he told me he agreed with the other surgeon. Radial tunnel syndrome (very similar to carpal tunnel syndrome) and a tennis arm. And for the first time I really feel like it matches how I feel and why some things hurt and others don't.
And after three years of injury and crushes dreams I'm starting in the third year of the Rock acadamy in september. And I'm being very careful.
Tldr: The reason I am telling you this (it became a lot longer than I intended) is because computer gaming and music injuries have in common that it has to do with repeating small movements, posture and technique. Maybe you can find someone who specialises in musicians and even better someone who's also docter/surgeon.
Ps. Sorry it became so long. And I'm on my phone so if you see some spelling or grammar mistakes please pm me. (Or if someone has questions.)

Wrist problems killing Esports. Hope you can come back to SC2 but if not, I hope your wrist heal fully no matter what.
|
Just wanted to say how awesome you are Sheth and I hope your hands will get better in the future! Just know that the community loves you and we'll not forget you, so just take your time and come back whenever it feels right . Also nice questions on the e-sports AMA, great to see that you still follow everything actively.
|
I you want to see more Sheth, he was in at least one episode of E-Sports Mafia recently, maybe more.
100% Town.
|
Thanks Sheth for letting us know. Sad to hear about the hands. Maybe surgery is in order? Good luck on the part-time college. Perhaps commit to Dota 2, and perhaps create a team of retired pros of TL with a road to TI4-5. Sending you positive energy.
|
It always hurt's when people as nice as Sheth end up in these situations.
I hope you find what you want to do from now on, and I wish you lot's of success with whatever that is!
|
Hoping for the best though
|
Hope you'll get better soon Sheth.
It's a tough moment when you're not able to do pretty much everything you're life was about, and it's hard to admit that you need to do another thing if there's not enough hope... But an intelligent and nice guy like you will always find a good and pleasant way of life, no matter what.
GL HF
(Beside the fact that it is you, I'm quite pissed that health issues prevent a player who could have been like top 5 foreigner to play.)
|
♥ GL and get well Sheth! ♥
|
My mom had the same kind of hand issues for a long time. In the end the only thing that helped was getting surgery on her carpal tunnels where they widen the nerve tunnel near the wrist of each hand so that the nerves no longer get compressed as much. This helped remove inflammation and pain and now she can use her hands again.
It will take some time for the hands to heal from that kind of surgery, but it could be something you might want to go for after such a long time of being in pain and not being able to do what you enjoy. All the best, Sheth!
|
As a massagetherapist I would so love to get a look on those wrists. Ive had some results with wristpains.. Come to Norway, Sheth!
Hope you figure it out and get better. I do miss you <3

So I now use good posture and have for a bit to those of you who suggested that. I've talked with TLO and hes been a tremendous help. (Nazgul too ofc) Its not Carpal Tunnel, oh how I wish I could just get a surgery and it'd go away. Its something the doctors don't know, some sort of RSI I'm guessing. And I've went to specialists to just get the "I don't know answer" XD
|
Sheth, have you considered possible psychosomatic causes? It sounds like its very much associated to starcraft. Though I don't doubt starcraft is much harder mechanically than the other games, this seems a bit strange. If nothing else is working, try a therapist!
wishing you a speedy recovery
|
Thanks for the update Sheth! I really hope you don't feel guilty about not being able to play and there are a lot of people eagerly waiting and hoping that you will recover and be able to play again whenever that happens. It must really be frustrating not to be able to play and enjoy your passion, but your fans are cheering for you and rooting for you even when you can't pick up that mouse!
|
It's a shame to hear that he is still struggling with his hands. Sheath was such a good player when he still played and I'd be overjoyed by his return!
|
tbqh his terrible practice of sitting his keyboard on his lap is one of the main reasons he cant play IMO

Dude don't be silly man you won't lose any friends or fans from the community just cause you aren't playing at the moment. Your health&happiness should always be your #1 priority and anyone who is a fan/friend of your's will 100% understand that. The only reason people ask where you are is because they actually have the time in their day to CARE about someone they may have never even met before. This is something that very few people in the world can say that thousands of people they may have never met in their life actually care about them.
Take care Sheth and do what ya got to do.

I hope someone finds a solution for your problems. All the best for you and I am sure, most people will cheer for you and won't forget you easily!
|
We miss you Sheth. You were the sole reason I got into watching streams!
|
Maybe pain is because Sheth uses keyboard in strange way - on his lap? So his hand is in uncomfortable position
|
|
Fucking wrists I really hope that in the future progamers will be able to go to a doctor that actually knows everything about pro gaming and the wrist issue that can come from it so we can see players being treated asap.
You tried no longer using the sheth board? That kinda looks like it shouldn't be good for your hands.

This is a really good advice. Starcraft is the more stressful game, especially if you have a competitive background. Stress can trigger a lot of old pain, which is somatically healed but your brain memorized the experience of pain.
I dont know, how it is in the US. In Germany there is a distinction between medical and psychological psychotherapists and I would definitely recommend a medical psychotherapist with specialisation in psychosomatic medicine.
I really hope you get well soon, Sheth!

Have you tried a physical therapist, Sheth? When I was having wrist and hand pain the doctor I saw kept telling me it was carpal tunnel and wanted to do an MRI. With that being incredibly expensive, I declined and asked if there was something else I could do, so they sent me to a P.T. When I went, it took the P.T. less than 5 minutes to tell me it wasn't carpal tunnel but rather stretched nerves. Since then, I have had almost zero issues (maybe once a month my wrists hurt for a few hours).
Good luck with your weight loss and wrists. Hopefully, we will see you competing again.

And by no longer being able to play games, or go to events I kind of lost a lot of friends, or at least interaction with friends. So just going on and hoping in the future. If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer em here. Sorry its not great news, but not too much I can do with hands like this. I will say over the past few months they've been getting better. For a week or two they've been feeling great, but then I played a few SC2 games and it went from no pain to lots of pain. So it seems very SC2 related rather then just typing on the computer or playing other games. I'm taking lots of supplements for my hands, and just trying/tried so many things for them. Anyway thanks for still having an interest in me even though I haven't released much information lately. I obviously still read TL all the time and love this community Dude don't be silly man you won't lose any friends or fans from the community just cause you aren't playing at the moment. It is a emotional response of feeling sidelined(and perhaps less relevant), and due to the wrists not being able to interact live with other gamers/community.
I would feel the same, even with such a great and supportive community.

We miss ya, dude. Don't be afraid to keep sayin' hey, even if it's just "No news, just chillin, hands hurt, sucks the d". You still have fans for more than just your play, don't think otherwise.
Hope everything starts to sort itself out, take care dude!

Thanks for the response Sheth. You mentioned being good with the xbox controller and there is this dude on TL who plays with the xbox controller. Maybe you can play with that too sometimes just so we can see you again. As always <3!

Probably hard to play at the same level, though.
Sheth is going through something that happens to all athletes, and it can be pretty depressing. However, the community loves Sheth for more than his in-game performance (Manner Bear! :3), so there's no reason we can't see him coaching and casting soon. I personally hope that if he can't rehab his hands, that he's able to transition into a coach/caster/community figurehead role. My first hope is that he gets whatever he wishes, though.

I can play xbox games on a controller, or even a little of other games like League or Dota or whatever, but whenever I play even 2-3 games of SC2 my hands end up killing me that entire week. I'd love to have had that fixed by now. Its been over 6 months sense I had this hand problem. However I guess things don't always go as planned. I'm going to start part time college shortly. This is all just a big cover up. If you read between the lines....
Sheth has actually ran away with Kerrigan (hot damn, she's real what?) and they are busy making billions of little human baneling babies in a diabolical plot to overthrow humanity (Terran). This new Sheth/Kerrigan crossbread is so powerful that the banelings can fly. Yes that's right folks, flying banelings... (bit like the scourge, anyone remember those? I think Blizz forgot about them). Be afraid, be very afraid!
This whole situation might be a bit weird and maybe not quite up Sheth's street (tentacles and spines in the bedroom aint everyone's cup of tea), but he's vowed do anything it takes to destroy the Terran disease once and for all.
The only reason his wrist actually might hurt right now, is him paying too much attention to Kerrigans needs while the rest of him is too tired and maybe he's grabbing a bite to eat. Kerrigan's needs are great folks, and he's willing to help...
And you all thought he was a 'nice guy'... Mwah ha ha ha ha ha! FOOLS!
