The eSF has announced the rosters for the upcoming GSTL season. This comes on the tail of Prime, MVP, and IM announcing they are leaving the eSF and not participating in the GSTL.
Notably, Soul has acquired former NSH player SSanaEE, and has partnered with Quantic Gaming. HwangSin appears to be the only Quantic player to be on Soul roster at this time. Azubu seem to have acquired Lucy, Neige, and Center.
Also, hyvaa who was rumored to be looking for another team is listed on Soul's roster.

But only 6 teams? I suppose they couldn't get the teams they wanted to replace the 3 they lost
5 teams, Ax-Acer is one team. In addition AZUBU is about to die any moment, whether it be the team or it's players all leaving. SOUL seems only temporary unless they find a sponsor, otherwise it looks like it's just a transitional team until everyone finds something.
Didn't expect AZUBU to buy more players with all the news of them potentially disbanding, but Center, Lucy and Neige should provide some good support to the team. And if SouL is partnering with Quantic, potentially HyuN on GSTL again?

It must, that's the only explanation. It's not like their schedules are too full to play in GSTL.
Playing in Proleague is a full time thing, you spend all week preparing for it. Playing in GSTL at the same time almost certainly dooms you to failure in both.

Since a lot of their players are still in South Korea and the rest can be flown in, they could save GSTL from flat out dying at least just by joining in as either a single team or separate teams.
Also, other foreigner teams, step it up! We need manpower!

I guess it depends on how soon Proleague starts but everything we've heard so far points to it not starting until next year.
i am all for smaller teams in the GSTL especially because most players from startale and fxo dont really play a lot (obviously) . they should consider breaking their teams down into A and B teams
Glad that Azubu is picking up players still. I guess they are not quite over yet. But man. This list is just depressing not seeing IM, MVP, and Prime on there.

The thing is a team like IM is actually large enough to play in both with two separate squads...
The second roster would actually fare better than NSHS probably... and players from the first roster, who are devoted full-time to PL, could simply come out on occasion at GSTL... Even if First has spent all week preparing for a PvP, I would still trust him to beat almost any Terran in a GSTL match, especially since GSTL isn't really about specific practice anyway.

It's more about the fact that you can't be ESF and Kespa at the same time than any game concern.

There's a big difference... Team 8 was created by KeSPA. SouL is a completely different team that is not owned by KeSPA. Unless you are suggesting that KeSPA buy SouL? That would be strange...

I honestly think It's because Soul without STX has no intention of going into League of Legends, so Kespa has no interest in them.
Is Center not on the mailing list or something? Azubu, really?
As for the rest, I haven't been paying too much attention recently so I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but a five team league is somewhat underwhelming.
I don't think people appreciate this enough. Everything else is a sideshow or fleshing out the scene in other countries, GSL is our OSL (BW comparison).
I don't know what could be done and I guess this has been coming (I can only imagine Blizzard's meddling with WCS only made things much wrose), but its a bloody travesty.
GOM has done everything right, always tried to connect with the foreign community, and BY FAR AND AWAY had the best and more consistent production.
Althoug I don't like the fact that it's only 5 teams, I think the teams are strong and we will see good matches. Axiom-Acer and Startale seem like favorites to me.
My god I'm happy to see hyvaa in the roster. And as the captain, oh yis.
5 team GSTL going to be interesting but I think all of the teams are really high level so it's fine. Like, no team is going to be destroyed like NSH and/or Prime last season.
5 teams is to less we need at lest 6 dont understand why prime leave, i think only IM and MVP wanted join SPL

If GOM dies SC2 ESPORTS dies.
they are korean esports, i really like eu vs na also without the guys from korea, and the kors who wanna play would easy join foreign teams so no panic
- 5 teams? Guess it will be round robin. - Azubu is still alive? - Wow, FXO got a TON of Toss players now. Remember when all they really had was Hurricane? - I thought hyvaa was teamless or jobless or something? - With so few teams competing, maybe EG or TL (hell maybe both separately or even combined) would considering joining this season? EGTL's future in SC2 proleague is uncertain at this point. And who knows exactly when next season of SC2 Proleague starts.

I remember hearing once that he's stepped down from a player and is now coaching. Don't quote me on that though this is what I can vaguely recall.

You are correct. He's a coach for StarTale now, and I believe he also dabbles in casting?
I haven't really had the time to watch much of GSTL the last few seasons, even though I've paid for the VOD-access. With so few teams, not really sure if it's even worth watching it in the first place.
Am I the only one wondering why Azubu is still here ? it's been proven it's a fraud, where is the money coming from now ? why dont people know about this ?

Frome Europe. Basically laundring dirty money. And everyone knows, just no one cares because why should they.
What's there to say. Feeling kind of sad for Mr.Chae and GomTV, always thought they did the best job and without them SC2 wouldn't even be alive in Korea.
Now with 5 teams this feels a bit wrong. Well, still hoping it will go well for them.
sorry for the negativity, but with "This comes on the tail of Prime, MVP, and IM announcing they are leaving the eSF and not participating in the GSTL." GSTL seems to be dead to me.

On the other hand Team8 was created from the scraps of MBC, WeMadeFox and Hwaseung Oz, 3 teams who disbanded. Aside from this they had great starpower (Jaedong) and potential at the time, it was also still BW.
STX is a single team and they just lost their best player to a foreign team in SC2.

GOMTV and Kespa should hurry up with the negotiations and hopefully the eventual merge , because this is getting ugly . Just get GOMTV to stream Proleague and scrap GSTL or have it as some special event or something . Either way Korean scene is still oversaturated with good players . Hopefully Kespa can find sponsors for the teams .
At the beginnig people were optimistic that SC2 will surpass BW , but it seems really hard to envision that future now . I would be just satisfied if Kespa can maintain a 12 team PL just like they did in BW . But there are not enough sponsors , not enough popularity for the game . To bad that past mistakes by Blizzard and Kespa ended up making a game like LOL which in my opinion is way inferior as a spectator sport then SC2 not to mention BW , more popular .

I don't think that GOM will ever let go of Kespa now after all of ESF's team been bought by Kespa and the fact that Kespa teams embargo'd their leagues multiple in the past all the from GOM Classics to inchoation of SC2 switch. Their relationship will get dirtier and dirtier as time passes as this very well might be the last GSTL from ESF teams. In the future, Kespa will hold monopoly on all of the teams. How would GOM feel about that when ALL of their players are from Kespa to play in the GSL? How would the players feel when they have to choose between ProLeague/OSL and GSL? Chances are that one of the individual leagues (be it OSL or GSL) will meet their respective funeral to pave the way for the other.

You have no idea what you are talking about ^^ Kespa didn't buy anyone, they ran to them cause eSF is useless. There is no GSL/OSL anymore, only WCS KR - whatever they want to believe. Kespa won't do things like that again, cause they are no longer what they used to be, they are part of government now - if GOM would like to, they can (and imo will) join Kespa as anyone can now.

The point it that GOM will most likely get shafted away and revert back to how it was in BW days with Kespa maintaining all control with the game and GSL (Or shall I say "WCS Korea" hosted by GOM TV) might disappear as GOM definitely won't back down easily to Kespa. It sucks for SC2 fans as GOM have "apparently" superior production values than OGN (which imo is debatable).

What's even more dangerous for the SC2 scene is that with ESF being pretty much neutered and emasculated, who is going to protect the interests of SC2 in Korea now? Like you've said, Kespa ain't going to do it. And 290k? man that's some number.

They did it with BW, and history might very well repeats itself. And I'm sure that now Kespa have governmental influence, Blizzard won't be on the side of a mere 5 team organization.
I think Blizz should be more afraid of KeSPA-RIOT deal. Because that 290.000 people today at LCS America was just... Interesting, i never watched lol, saw today because just want to understand what is this that people hate so much. I am impressed by the numbers.
What's even more dangerous for the SC2 scene is that with ESF being pretty much neutered and emasculated, who is going to protect the interests of SC2 in Korea now? Like you've said, Kespa ain't going to do it. And 290k? man that's some number.
I think the simple fact of the matter is that SC2 doesn't have a future in Korea

Disagree. I think OGN will be more with LOL while GOM/SPOTV still with SC2. I think that new KeSPA rule that allows GOM to afiliate indicates something this way.

I agree with you. Because, look at this generation of SC2 players. They went to SC2 because they had their heroes (The BW players), who was korean idols/heroes. Now think about the next generation. Their heroes/idols will be a SC2 player? Or a LOL player? Do you think they will choose to play SC2 or LOL? In the long term, i think the korean scene will be even smaller if this trends continue.

As part of the new KeSPA policy outlined in this thread. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=427174 I highly doubt this will happen, any team or organization that operates as part of eSports in Korea can not only join KeSPA but also influence its policy and defend their own interest now. The only reason we have this huge clusterfuck right now is because we are going trough a transitional period, some teams are in the process of switching right now or seriously considering it (IM, MVP, Prime), some of the still haven't made up their mind or they believe they can juggle both GSTL and the transition, perhaps they wish to join later.
I hate people spreading negativity and fear mongering when we yet haven't had any cause for concern.
Side note, consider that if IM joins KeSPA it can only be a good thing (and I talking about the whole migration to KeSPA as a whole, not just IM), because of NesTea. Now NesTea has been a long time supporter of the eSF and did everything he could to protect their interests from KeSPA, and I believe he was strongly opposed to KeSPA when it was all absolutist and totalitarian. If he could get over that and IM is now joining then I believe either his attitude towards KeSPA has changed or, more likely, the times have changed and this is the new and more trustworthy KeSPA.
And speaking of the man himself it would be awesome if someone could indeed get an interview with NesTea, I bet his insights and thoughts on KeSPA now could really be indicative of the attitude of the teams as a whole. A interview with mr Chae could also help.

Can't really call them half a team when they're basically the latest proleague champions minus Innovation

minus Innovation, Bear, Comet, Classic, Calm, and Mini, plus Hwangsin.
I dunno, if it was just innovation they'd be looking pretty healthy, but losing Classic hurts. Like...who do they field now? Trap, Dear, Hyvva, obviously, but after those three the roster is looking pretty thin for a fourth player. They haven't fielded Last since April, and he's been losing all his other matches lately (dropped out of code S, dropped out of code A, lost his first match when trying to re-qualify for code B).
And the rest of the roster does not inspire confidence. Hwangsin if he did transfer from Quantic...has had uninspiring results lately. (Lost to CatZ in a team league...in fact lost to several north/south americans recently--Nony, goswser, hendralisk, badcop, KiLLeR). YoungJoo has been trying and failing to qualify for WCS Europe--although I'll grant, maybe the lag is killing him since I assume he's playing from Korea. SSanaEE has been trying and failing to qualify for WCS America (getting knocked out by relatively unknown north americans such as sAikOu...).
Basically, they have three strong players, but GSTL requires them to field five players. Soul used to field six in proleague, of course, but when they were winning proleague they generally fielded the same six (Mini, Classic, Innovation, Hyvva, Dear, Trap) and they've lost three of those players. So...they'll have to dust off two players from their B-team, and none of them are showing signs of being in particularly great shape.

esf doesn't really have a use right now. It was made specifically to uphold the interests of non-kespa teams in direct response to a ruthless kespa moving into SC2. With an over saturation of teams and players, its inevitable some are going to go, and ultimately, one of these organizations will cease to exist. Since it's definitely not going to be kespa, this simply strikes the beginning of the end of esf that everyone should have already seen coming anyways.

5 teams is kinda funky lol...
It seems to me that Startale and Axiom-Acer (does scarlett play, if not that is pretty bad for them) are the strongest teams this season I'm little worried for FXO. They don't look as strong as they used to. Leenock and Gumiho are still somewhat ok but I think Hurricane might be the strongest player of the team right now. Azubu is still looking ok. Supernova has been doing really well lately, Symbol is also doing ok (not in ZvT tho) and then there is B4 and Sleep.
And then SouL. Even though Innovation is not part of the team anymore they still look quite strong! Dear and Trap are both imo one of the best players in GSTL. Both are also code s if I recall correct (?) We haven't seen Last for quite a long time but I'm sure he will show up too this season and he was pretty good when in MLG! Hyvaa did fine in PL with his cheeses :D and then there is SSanaEE!!!!!!!!
Sad that MVP, Prime and IM are not participating Prime and IM were the teams I really only rooted for....oh well.. Looking forward this season still!
Bear, Comet, Classic and Calm didn't really do whole lot.
Classic did a ton for them for them once he switched to Protoss. He went 15-4 post race-switch (79% winrate. In proleague. Literally higher than Rain during the same rounds) and was fielded almost every match.
But sure, he had unremarkable results back when he played Terran.

Scarlett plays, yeah, although she'll be missing the first two matches of the season (dealing with visa issues, and making sure she fully recovers from her injury).
so im assuming from this azubu isnt planning to disband? but why did they drop so many of their potent players: violet (i understand there's a visa issue), genius, san, etc... there must be something internal or maybe those players didnt express a desire to any longer play or be in the scene.

Word Classic was very important and won the last game for the PL championship. But GSTL is just so unremarkable now.
