The "monster" has returned!
It seems iloveoov will be returning to SK Telecom T1 to become an SC2 coach for the team.
After enlisting as a full-time reserve back in 2011, "monster" iloveoov finished the last of his military service and was discharged on the 17th.
Oov announced through his facebook that he had been discharged with a very simple statement of "it's already evening." Fans responded with comments like, "You are now a civilian," "Congratulations on being discharged! Welcome back." Oov caught everyone's eyes with his comment of, "Thank you. It looks like I declared my discharge from the military well without twisting my mouth. People are telling me that I'm good even though I haven't even practiced."
Iloveoov, who enlisted into the military as a full-time reserve and also carried out administrative procedures, contacted FOMOS and stated through a phone interview that, "I have a new way of approaching my work thanks to my time in the military. I feel like I can accomplish anything. I feel especially confident that I can do things like creating various kinds of documents anytime."
After being discharged, oov plans to return to his old hometown, SK Telecom T1. Oov still had time left on his contract before enlisting, so it seems like current head coach BoxeR was indeed waiting with eager anticipation for the return of oov.
In regards to iloveoov, the SK Telecom T1 secretariat stated, "With thanksgiving coming up, we want to congratulate oov on getting safely discharged from the military. Later on, we will be releasing an official statement with details regarding iloveoov's position on the team."

I was almost over it Wax, but some of the casters at Worlds keep calling them SKT1, too, which made me relive old pain again.

HOLY SHIT I <3 OOV! :D
One of my favorite players, the first terran player that made me want to switch to terran completely.
For all the kids out there, he's the original macro terran from StarCraft 1, they called him Cheater Terran because he'd just have so many units that it's impossible.
He won 3 straight MSLs. Won 2 OSLs. Won a WCG. That's almost as good as Flash' record (one less OSL and GOMTV).
His macro is impetuous. His mind is impregnable, and he's just ferocious.
He was called the Gorilla Terran (the original one, sorry Jinro) and Monster Terran because he would just smash people, he was also very tall and there is picture where he ate bananas:
He had a 25-0 straight wins record in TvZ. 25-0, against the best zergs out there. Try to wrap your mind around that: 25-0. He was boxer's student, and he overcame his mentor in a very emotional finals.
^Boxer crying.
He was so good that he could smash top people with fucking paper airplanes PEW PEW!
Oov was so baller that he had a girlfriend while playing, who he later married.
He was SKT T1's coach before going to the military. He was one of the best players with his mind games and mentality, which makes him a perfect coach, as was proven by success of SKT T1 in proleague after he joined. Then he came up with a revolutionary build for mech in TvZ and coached Fantasy to rise to #2 Terran position (some would say #1, but #1 forever Flash <3) at the end of SC1.
And now he's back, coaching with Boxer!

this is _AWESOME_ to say the least

And he predicted Rain becoming top dog of SKT, year before it happened :D + Show Spoiler +There is rumor that By.Sun is ranked number one in practice. Is this true?
A : By.Sun will grow into a force to be reckoned. He has a gift that leaves him no choice but to be good at this game. He can watch his teammates' games and copy their strategy and management on the fly. I'm not talking just the overall, I'm talking timings down to the second, building placements down to the very pixel, and harassment like you were watching a replay. He is an intricate copy machine. On top of this he knows how to adapt and think outside the box, and win the game when he has the advantage. He thinks when he plays so he will grow into a great player.

I went on to write a rant, but I'll just write it shortly.
1. I was there when it was all happening, albeit towards the end and lurking. So I remember all of it. The goliath drops in tvt, the mini mm squad for expoing in tvz, 9+ factories on one screen producing a shit-ton of units in a tvp... oov vs boxer, oov vs july, oov vs reach, etc. everything on weird ass maps (for today's standards) 2. I wrote that from memory, checked a few things in LP just to see if they are correct, and I searched for iloveoov images on google. I did not copy that glorious article, although it did help cement some things in my memory and it inspired me a long time ago. I'm a fucking oov fan, I remember it all. 3. Show some respect to your elders (presumably).

Fantasy + Boxer + oov, the Terran triumvirate is re-united !

It's funny, Oov is probably the most famous terran to be unknown to people who became fan only when sc2 came around.

I have a new way of approaching my work thanks to my time in the military. I feel like I can accomplish anything. I feel especially confident that I can do things like creating various kinds of documents anytime. Wow looks like he has acquired some serious real life skills in his military time.

Welcome back! I wish SKT1 didn't lose so many players but glad to see him back.

I thnk SKT1 might just win an SPL.

The times I feel most nostalgic about are the oov times. It happened just exactly after I started getting deeply into BW... so many tanks ^___^

Ok Fantasy. You have two top coaches now, you are going to become the next Bonjwa. I'd say you should work on your GG timing, but you might not lose a game ever again.

Even though I don't really like SKT, I hope Oov + Boxer would somehow find a way to make mech in TvP somewhat viable like they did with mech in BW TvZ and pass it on to Fantasy.

He was called the Gorilla Terran (the original one, sorry Jinro) and Monster Terran because he would just smash people, he was also very tall and there is picture where he ate bananas: He had a 25-0 straight wins record in TvZ. You could've just linked to the actual article instead. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=81288 I went on to write a rant, but I'll just write it shortly. What I am wondering is what does this mean for Boxer? IMHO it's unlikely that Boxer personally campaigned for Oov's return. I mean Boxer was suppose to be the magic pill that will solidify SKT's dominance in PL and that has failed to materialized. And for Boxer to play a big part of Oov's return during a time of funding cuts and sub-par performance is simply career suicide. If Oov come back and SKT start doing well again, it's likely that public will contribute the resurgence to Oov's coaching rather than Boxer-Oov chemistry. But if Oov fails to make a different then Boxer as the head coach will still take most of the blame.
I think this is a upper management decision and it might be a sign that they are not happy with Boxer's result. One way to make someone quit out without firing them is to 'bring in someone to help you even when there is not enough work to justify it'. They did it to Coach Park.

While this sounds pretty reasonable I don't think thats really what happened here. Keep in mind that oov only ever left due to having to do military, so I could imagine that when oov left they made a contract to ensure his return at the end of his service. Also they told Park to go coach lol, which is why he decided to leave.

What would make you think that? Because I'm not the only one who thinks that way? Come on now. I had similar remarks for Coach Park and how everyone jumped on the hype wagon. Does having good coaches help? Of course it does, in fact I was one of the first guys to recommend EG hire a coach when it was clear their players needed direction. Not once; not twice but several times. They technically did that when they brought in trOt and the atmosphere did change. Coaching is a small part of the bigger picture because at the end of the day it's still up to the players to respond to what you're trying to do. It's all about the players and not everyone is going to respond to your methods (especially RTS gamers who I find a very stubborn bunch-- I know this from coaching a lot of them during BW).
At the end of the day it's about respect and surely the SK T1 players respect BoxeR and oov. These guys are the prominent figures of the SK T1 brand; the very foundation the team was built upon. The more experience the better. With that said, iloveoov is not only out of practice but I have a hard time believing this is your guy who will take the players to the next level when the players on their roster have a better understanding of the game. It's not like oov wasn't a coach for them before because he was and yet people to this day still give more credit to Coach Park based on the interviews for when they did win PL because he was the head hancho. At the end of the day, T1 are still in a great position to win PL because they already had a good roster. The team is always in contention. If there is something they're lacking and always have been lacking it's a really good Zerg (yes, I know they have soO -_-). T1 used to be known for their Terrans, but nowadays they can rely on PartinG, Rain, Classic and Fantasy to do the heavy lifting. That Protoss line-up is as good as any atm and it's great when you have guys who sort of know what they're doing already. It makes it much, much easier to manage them anyway.

Doubtful since boxer is like 4-5 years older than oov I believe lol. So if anything boxer would probably stop coaching and probably take more of a managerial role would be my guess.

The thing I most remember about Oov is that for that 2008 all-stars match he practiced so hard after hours of his normal coaching gig he put himself in the hospital from strain and stress or some shit. Guy seems unreal dedicated to anything he does.

I think he said in an interview way back that he practiced some sc2 early on to prepare skt1 for an anticipated switch to sc2, but that switch was delayed for a while due to legal shenanigans, so he ended up doing military service before the switch.
He has a lot of catching up to do, but he's not completely inexperienced in sc2.

Awesome the Gorilla terran is back. He helped Fantasy the most to develop as a player and strategically so he is super important.
Really sad that 1/2 the team has left by the time iloveoov came back from his military service. Best, S2, Bisu, all the players he helped shape and mold and a coach. At least some good news for SKT for once.

|
The promised day has come! The prodigal son has returned! The bonjwa has returned (to destroy them all in 2014)!
I love iloveoov!
|
Good news are always welcome ! :D
|
more reasons to be a SKT1 fan. Just wish I could get my hands on some merchandise..
|
iloveoov coaching Fantasy was a huge part of BW from 2008 to 2011. Hopefully he can take the Crown Prince to new levels in SC2.
|
I said this a long time ago, but Fantasy will become the first SC2 Bonjwa.
|
So excited for this, good to see he's getting back into it.
|
Iloveoov has returned. :O
What a great moment in SCII history.
|
As a terran player, this is good news. I hope skt1 will produce a lot of good terran player like they did in the past.
|
Good to see that fantasy will finally have someone to explain complicated sc2 strategy to him. He was having a hard time while OOV was gone, but now its good. SKT fighting!
|
The 'cheater' terran is back and now coaching some talented professional nerds? This news is most welcome.

The other teams better beware of these various kinds of documents created at anytime! Is this a joke lost in translation?
|
whoooooooooooo! This is awesome! SKT T1 looks even stronger now, like that's possible :D
|
Glad all the Terran bonjwas have all had their hand in SC2 in one way or another ^_^ - two on the same team coaching is overpowered!
WTB NaDa coaching Flash.
|
Nice with a significant Starcraft personality returning after so many players retired =) Coach or not, this gives me a bit of renewed hope for the game.
|
Maybe it's because all the korean progamers seem so young, but he looks a bit old to me on the photo 0.o.

I wonder how effective having old BW pros(who wouldn't be that good in todays BW anyway) as coaches in a completely different game is in comparison to just having SC2 coaches who have been good in SC2 for a long time. Shouldn't things have changed a ton throughout the years and especially due to the new game?

Coaching in bw has never been about getting a player that is better than the ones under his wing and making him "teach" them how to play, from what I've read there's a lot more about coaching (social factors, coping with pressure, living healthily during it all, etc.etc.) and all the experience both boxer and oov have in the scene should be very helpful for all of the players.
|
lol army training made oov turn ssj
edit : haha

After all these retierments, It's really refreshing to see Iloveoov back!
|
Daaanngg nice to see some good news

He played a lot when the game first released and even played some during his military service. Even though a lot has changed since then, he has been showing an interest in sc2 for a while.

Oh God, This is HUGE news!! Prepare to see Fanstasy destroy everyone when The Gorilla coach him! SKT with Boxer and iloveoov back, this feels so right. T.T

In other news, SKT wins proleague in advance.

So hyped for proleague in November

Besides, Coaching in Korea - at least as far as I understood - also has a managing aspect.
Plan upcoming events, make training schedules, help players to research their opponents.

Now rooting for SKT1; the true Terran King returns.

"I feel especially confident that I can do things like creating various kinds of documents anytime." lol wtf?

Thanks to Oov Fantasy became good enough to win an OSL in BW . He was one of the pioneers of late game mech switch in TvZ that revolutionized the MU when he was a coach . And had one of the best expansion timings ever . I think he can is a good addition to any team in any game , because he is intimidating enough to make players practise more .

For esf teams yes, in kespa there is usually a whole managing structure within whatever company owns the team.
Given that his military service taught him to do documents well I'd imagine he had more of a desk job, on top of that he is married so chances are he got to go home regularly, thus I would imagine he played some star 2 on the site and isn't completly clueless about the game (besides the fact that he played when it came out).
