"Hello, I am Startale head coach Kim Gwang Bok. After this GSTL season I will end my career as a head coach. I sincerely thank everyone who has cheered for Startale up to now, and those who will keep cheering for Startale in the future. I send my sincere thanks to my players who have followed this foul-mouthed head coach up to now. "
Can´t remember when I heard good news from Startale. If they die, the players might try to follow MVP/Prime/IM into Proleague. I seriously doubt that there will be another GSTL after this one, which would be a damn shame.

10!? Now i am seriously confused.
Keep in mind that out of the ten or so that retired, most people probably didnt know half of them

Sound was really the only notable one. The others were pretty much ex-Zenex players who transferred over and never did too much :/
Is Won still on startale? Haven't heard about him since they launched startaletv and he seemed to have stepped down from his coach job to full managing.
Well to be fair I have been expecting them to drop a few players ever since they picked up all of Zenex, was kinda hard to imagine a team supporting two teams, even with redbull money.
ST will be fine and afaik the head coach has been talking about this for a while now. Plus didn't they have 3 coaches + Ace?

Exactly, other than Sound, most of the retirements have been the former Zenex players. This is still a team that has a big roster and coaching staff after adding Zenex; if II'm not mistaken the old Zenex head coach is still there, maybe he'll get a promotion now.

It's just a joke / humble thing to say. He probably yells a lot (like a lovable angry, but not violent, dad) in the house or something.

Yeah, sounds like a term of endearment to me, I wouldn't read too much into it. I do think it's odd that he's announcing retirement so early though. Considering ST's position in the GSTL isn't certain yet they probably could've done without any potentially demoralising news.

Yeah, I think you might have heard about Sparta. There is also one famous movie about Sparta..

Sparta took nestea out of the GSL. Never forget
i remember that game on antiga where Nestea held off his marine rush with just drones & queens was pretty cool
As waxangel pointed out, I don't think there really has to be a rhyme or reason for his departure.
Nowadays, it's pretty fashionable to retire in Korean SC2. There are just so many players and coaches all bunched up into one market that hit a bubble. Moreover, some people just get old/tired and retire, or they find other opportunities and move on.
Leaving of "youngsters" is more of a big-deal and it's a pretty bad thing.. In KR things tend to work differently guys, though I haven't been there a second, think that most people would understand what I mean..
In Western cultures contracts come-and-go, and they're usually only signed either for personality/stream-viewership or after a certain degree of success in a tourney.. In KR I think that there's more the "home-cook-and-chemistry-between-players" thing.. So teams in order to work need to have B-Teamers as well as the big-guns of the "good ol'" days to say the least..
In fact the success of a B-Teamer or lesser-known player over a captain/favorite is the greatest and most common source of hypes and stories..
That's usually where the knowledge of "neutral" people comes from, that's where the publicity takes place, pride gets born, merchandises and sponsorships arrive.., e.t.c.
o.f.c. I might be talking thrash right now ATM cause I don't get a damn thing about business or how it's run or sth..,
Still - the point is - if majority of the "younger" players from a team disband in such a short time - that might at least mean that the team owner has other plans for the team, or at least not plan further investing in the current business/maintenance program of the team.. The sign of the head-coach leaving is also something for a concern as well for a team-wealth and/or stability, in fact it can just mean confirmation that things haven't gone well for some time already..
So - really hope that those who really tried hard but never got the actual place of a starter in the team find their chance to prove themselves..
And it's not like - ahh, those are mostly the ZeNex guys that ST picked up.. Well - if we remember correctly Life was a ZeNex player before he went to ST, wasn't he ??
Still - B-teamers are always needed for the sake of wealthiness of a future of teams..
Like - take CJ for example (or more precisely talking about Sora for a moment).. The most hype about that team comes from the fact that they have a "new addition" to their team, and it's not a bought one, but rather a carefully-home-cooked player that almost no-one knew about (sorry for those who knew him already), and suddenly he's on the home-pages of articles and tourneys and such things..
Like - that's how a well-in-work team functions, and invests in it's own future.. ST has just "declined" it.. Hope things get settled and get better with the ST team though.. There's quite a bit of history to say the least..

I think the pickup of Balloon was probably something like "You did well in a qualifier, we'll support you for half a year in our house, then we'll renegotiate."

especially when Virus comes out of retirement with a vengeance not seen since the Bubonic plague.
oh i remember that guy. when did he retire anyway? he just fell off the face of the earth
Summer of 2011 according to an editor of Liquipedia.
Pretty sure he meant Summer of 2012. I remember he dropped out of Code A in 2012 Season 3 and never tried to requalify after that, and his retirement was announced on the Startale Facebook page in September or so.
He was a GSL staple. This series against boxer was so entertaining (usually didn't go well for him though )

half? more like two and I'm being generous, only sound was really notable, both sparta and brain were sorta seen a bit but really nobody knew of them.
okay balloon had that one nice code b run but really, is it that surprising?

That was Coach Won. Sleazy two-faced bastard he was too, trying to pretend to be a good guy publicly to promote eSports, while trying shut down any team that didn't kiss the eSF's ass.

People always forget the importance of a good B-team for practice partners.
Well then sOs and Soulkey should be going to shit, but they're not.
I thought WJS kept like one or two b-teamers.

Sounds like he's a real straight talking dude who uses his share of "disrespectful" speech when coaching, and is probably close to the players as a result, just a bit of humour in bitter news.
