The first day of HomeStory Cup VIII saw the first four round-of-32 groups play out, and to little surprise, elite Korean players MC, jjakji, TaeJa, and HerO took the four top spots. However, it was no walk in the park for the Koreans, with foreigner pros proving their mettle and putting up quite a fight. Even as the championship quartet made it through to the Ro16, the less accomplished Zenio was eliminated in the Ro32, losing games to jjakji and then MaNa.
With the Koreans taking the #1 spots in their groups, it was left to the foreigners to fight for the second place spots. In a minor upset, the young German Terran HeRoMaRinE took the second place spot in group A, edging out established veterans TLO and DIMAGA. Meanwhile in Group B, Socke showed he was still alive and well after spending some time outside of the spotlight, defeating MaNa twice to take the second place spot. The Canadian Scarlett defeated NightEnD twice to advance out of Group C, while TitaN won a close three-way melee between him, Kas, and TarGa to continue on to the Ro16.

Well no surprise here. Still waiting if Stephano can make it to 2nd in his group or if we see the results of not playing for 3 months...

The only group I got wrong was group B because I thought Mana was going to get out, but I guess Socke has pretty good PvP so I'm not too surprised to see him get through.

I don't think there were any upsets for day 1. TLO might be an upset, but that's probably it.

Nice play by socke and Heromarine! I'm looking forward to Groupe French tomorrow though

This is absolutely shocking and unprecedented news.
Happy birthday White-Ra!

i really love the balance between foreigner and korean in this tournament. it seems so right to me, a bit like WCS EU

I suspect a Protoss will win this tournament. HerO, Stardust and MC are pretty legit. Taeja and Hyun are on their level, but I think the rest of the players aren't quite there.

Taeja clap...Nice first day of HSC. Looking forward to Group H and Group F (Stephano and Huk).
Happy birthday White-Ra!

I agree. Hopefully, HerO has a more focused mindset for Day 2. I heard he didn't really take his Targa series too seriously or something.

wow, zenio is the only korean who didn't make it. sad

An easy title for a protoss here to take. Heromarine looked really good which is always nice

Watch, 0 of the European Terrans make it out of their group...
It's up to Jjakji and Taeja.

Is there anyone else Excited for Stephano's cameback?

As always, I'm cheering for Hero and Taeja, but Hyun is my pick for a Zerg winner... maybe Leenock.
And yeah, since I was in class, I didn't catch all of the games, but I watched a few on my phone. Taeja and Hero both kind of rolled through their opponents and you could tell HerO wasn't super serious in game 2 against Targa.
