TeSPA is pleased to announce that the organization’s founders, Adam and Tyler Rosen and Chris Kelly, have joined Blizzard Entertainment as official members of the company’s eSports team in a collaboration that will strengthen both organizations’ collegiate eSports initiatives. As part of a special arrangement with Blizzard, Adam, Tyler, and Chris will further focus their efforts around developing the expansive TeSPA network while also helping to tailor Blizzard’s own outreach initiatives.
Today’s announcement emphasizes the importance of TeSPA’s mission to accelerate and enhance the growth of grassroots gaming communities everywhere and reflects Blizzard’s ongoing dedication to supporting its passionate community of gamers and eSports fans.
“We’re extremely excited about this opportunity and the potential it has for making a meaningful impact on both our local university TeSPA chapters and eSports as a whole. Adam, Chris, and I are closely aligned with the very community-focused folks at Blizzard, and there is no doubt in my mind that great things lie ahead for everyone involved,” said Tyler Rosen.
TeSPA remains staunchly committed to providing unparalleled support to campus gaming communities across the nation regardless of which games they may play or events they may host. Blizzard shares TeSPA’s commitment to the grassroots scene and to further ingraining eSports into modern academic culture. Both organizations believe that a closer association will provide added benefits for local TeSPA chapters and will be actively working toward that goal—more news to come!

Majestic. Lone star clash was so good. Blizzard has a great eye for talent and it's so awesome these guys got picked up.
|
That's great news! These TeSPA guys have been doing a great job, glad to see them rewarded.

I thought it was the Taiwanese league at first too.

Wait so why isn't CSL involved here?
Seems like a reinvention of the wheel.

Tespa runs CSL, no?
Edit: Looks like no, my mistake!

Interesting. I wonder what that means for CSL, especially the non-SC portions.

TeSPA started out running a tournament from the University of Texas, I had not thought that they were involved in the CSL, though. I think I'm wrong on that.
I'm REALLY excited for this, though. I'm a college student currently and I'm very excited as to what these guys might get Blizz to do!
|
These guys seem really motivated after listening to their interview with Chanman, so it's great to see them doing what they want to do and helping tertiary-education level play, especailly now that it is at an official level!
|
This is seriously cool! I'm glad Blizzard recognized their efforts.

Taiwanese league = TeSL
It's ok, at first I was confused too.

We're very good friends with the Rosens and TeSPA but there's no official relationship between us. We worked together on Lone Star Clash 1 : having a collegiate player (Heavens, who finished top 8) at the main event, and the CSL Regional LAN at the event as well.

I have no idea what this implies but I guess it's good :D
|
Does this mean Tespa won't be getting behind non blizzard games? Not that I care really, just curious.
|
I think it means Blizzard and TeSPA will be working together (i.e. blizzard providing support for their communities) as a sub-part of the three big dogs being hired by Blizzard to be a part of their esports team

I see, so it's only the 3 head guys that become blizzard employees.
Anyway, sounds like great news for sc2!

Adam from TeSPA here. To answer your question - nope! TeSPA will continue operating as it had before. We will continue supporting collegiate and high school esports groups, regardless of the games they play or host events for. We firmly in the idea of elevating esports as a whole, and this means supporting every community we can.

People love to hate Blizz but without them donating charity to SC2 esports (including GSL since its inception), we wouldn't have SC2 esports. And moves like this show that they really do care. Awesome news here.

If Lone Star Clash returns, this makes it look likely it will be a WCS event.

I have to admit that I kinda forgot that TeSPA existed, but still cool news nonetheless! Between this and Blizzard making more room in the WCS schedule for outside tournaments, hopefully this means we'll get some new LSC's.

He's saying that it's funny to be mad about something small like one Starcraft organization ripping off another Starcraft organization's name when Starcraft itself--in many people's eyes--is a rip off (of Warhammer 40k, Alien, Predator, etc.)
Now that I've explained it, I'm sure it is extremely hilarious!!

Apparently you haven't read Starship Troopers (1959), or even Ender's Game (1985.)

I hope this leads to a wcs asia at some point. I hoped it would be added in wcs 2014 because it would solve a lot of problems. Give the chinese market a major tournament. Give chinese, australian and south east asian people an appropriate home region. Give wcs america more room to breathe for local talents.
Maybe 2015..

Well, Warhammer 40k and StarCraft have much more similarities/parallels between two of them than with the novels you mentioned or other sci-fi settings. There's a reason why this is a relatively well known issue.
But yeah, this is not a right place nor a right time for such discussions, so we probably shouldn't continue it.
|
And where exactly stands that this has any meaning for sc2? Blizzard wants to release 2 new games, maybe they have plans on bringing these games on a high esports lvl.
|
I'd say that anyone that wants to commit to helping with smaller tournaments and local talent deserves our respect and support !
|
I was thinking texas at first, it was a good thing too. TeSL is the taiwan one I think. TeSPA. I wonder how much it'll help for them to be inside Blizzard pushing things forward rather then from the outside.
|
next time before saying tespa joined, please explain first what tespa is so people can get excited without wondering

Tespa members got hearthstone keys!

Grats Tyler and Adam. Was always fun hanging out with you guys.

It's an eSports Association K for Korea, T for Texas. Not quite sure what else they should call it. Texas Starcraft League (TSL), Texas StarCraft League (TSCL), something else? You seem a bit rustled over something so simple, so standard (NHL, NFL, etc).
Anyway the real point of the thread - congrats to these guys! They were motivated and dedicated and it is good to see their work get noticed and appreciated by Blizzard.

This is good. A very necessary step to further advance the outreach eSports can extend. TeSPA is a responsible organization, and even though nobody really pays attention to their goals and aims, they are really important for eSports.
Best of luck to this partnership!

The guy crying about T(eSPA) v K(eSPA) clearly was unaware at the time of what those names were supposed to signify.
I'd be surprised if he hasn't complained about MLG copying professional American sports leagues both with their logo and their name. I'm sure that he gets it by now though that it's not copying at all, but instead proper and educated naming decisions.
