This is exist not only in Korea but even the middle east, north africa, etc... There is a difference between sexual behavior and friendly behavior, that obviously is difficult to understand in the western world. Anyway, how is it that this is what people talk about. Isn't it more interesting to see that MC, even he shows a lot of confidence on stage, is in fact humble. And to see Parting goofing around gives him a cute aspect (cuz the soul train gives him a brutal aspect ha ha...) Nice video.

Unfortunately the guy who posted his homophobic/dumb comment managed to get it in on the first page, so a lot of people are focused on that. Otherwise, I think it's a relatively small minority of people on here who find Korean affection "disturbing" (implying homosexual behavior and negative connotation). The irony of that poster is that most of us are aware that people who express critical feelings towards male affection (non-sexual) & homosexuals tend to harbor closeted homosexual feelings themselves. Being an asshole about such trivial things really just "outs" these people to the entire internet. Haha. The irony.

i can only guess insecurities, social expectances and ego-trippin alpha males trying to prove themselves in the western world , are the main factor for people to be disgusted by it. those are things something i don't see in asian culture as often.

This IS the product of being around culturally unaccepting adults and having their voices in the back of my head. No one can change how they are raised, but they can certainly change their views on right and wrong. So, Synd doesn't need to be forced to share your views on the video. Feeling disturbed is the emotion that overcame him in the video and he straight up says it's a product of his up bringing. I'm sure he is capable of rationalizing everyone else's view points but because of the way he was raised that's how he interprets what he saw. On topic, I think it was great to see them being so friendly. Although I was let down by the lack of participation from SoS.

Where we see it as romantic affection or a parent/child thing, there it's considered an act of friendship. You'll regularly see two buddies walking down the street holding hands. It's kinda weird seeing it at first, but you get over it ^^, Not at all sure this is of any prominence in any asian country tho. I'll go ask google right away! *GOOGLE EDIT* So, I just enlightened myself! It's actually way common is east asia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc.

Not sure which of these relations do Parting and MC share. Gonna just start calling these closet homosexuals out on their hypocrisy and aggression on something so trivial and platonic as holding hands in a freaking interview. No one on here cares if you're gay, sigm. It's 2013. No need to pretend like you're something you're not. If you were not a closeted gay person, you would not be so invested in or "disturbed" by seeing two males holding hands in a platonic manner. People who are not gay do not care about things like this - it means nothing to them because they aren't abnormally focused on trying to determine what is or is not homosexual behavior. There's a thread for you if you want to come out of the closet, here: Gay Starcraft Players For reference, here's a famous, obviously closeted homosexual who was "disturbed" enough by gay people to create a camp to "cure" them: Michelle Bachmann's Husband (Daily Show)

It's just what close friends that are confident in their sexual orientation do to troll. Just my observation. If you're not confident of your sexuality, you may not want to try it. They are not trolling. It's just very different in Korean culture. There are seriously Koreans who sincerely believe there are no homosexual koreans whatsoever. And that if there are homosexual koreans it's from a disease foreigners bring. It's on that level, that's why you will see a lot of Koreans hugging / holding hands without actually having it mean anything except for friendship. It is changing very quickly with the younger generations. But the fact that some older koreans sincerely believe that homosexuality within their people is nonexistant, should tell you enough. You can't actually compare Western hetero/homo culture with Korean whatsoever. It's insanely different. If you go to Korea you would think that like 99% of the population was homosexual or something. When the ones that actually are, are hiding it from the public. Coming out may cost you your job. This is Leenock with Polt, Hero, Gumiho and Center. He was also pretty famous for cuddling with MKP / JYP. Just have to accept that they have different culture norms. (The reason I know a bit about it (far from all) is because I'm gay myself and wanted to know their LGBT-culture since I saw so many of them holding hands / hugging in public. So I decided to read up on it instead of getting "knowledge" based on my own assumptions.)

I want to have Synd's back a little because I think you guys are targeting him pretty hard. And no matter how open minded I am and could careless how Parting and MC acted, to me personally I still have to think through what I'm seeing and tell myself it's not wrong. This IS the product of being around culturally unaccepting adults and having their voices in the back of my head. No one can change how they are raised, but they can certainly change their views on right and wrong. I think the majority of the people were tripping over the word 'disturbed' which is rather strong and I definitely do not feel that way, however I fully agree with you that automatically calling that person a closeted homosexual is a pointless harmful statement fed by the political-correctness-gone-mad-virus that seems to dominate the "western" societies nowadays. Now, again, I am not saying I was disturbed, however the hand-fiddling did intrigue me. The behavior we display has an underlying meaning/explanation, and those meanings of certain behaviorisms might and probably do differ greatly in various cultures. The behavior of Parting and MC in this interview is an example of social behavior that I have not encountered too often and just makes me wonder whether "the meaning" that I subconsciously assign to that, reflect the reality. Since it is a different culture, it probably does not. It still leaves me interested and wanting to know. Now before the shit storm hits, trying to understand their social interaction/relation does not mean I am judging let alone condemning anything. The heavy response on the much discussed post was, as said, probably due to the rather harsh and inconsiderate formulation, but! I think that just asking any kind of questions about this situation would have incited the same kind of responses we have seen throughout this thread. If it would have been a girl and a guy and someone would have asked whether there was some romantic tension, no one would have batted an eyelid. On topic: I absolutely loved the interview. Unlike many other interviews where the programers tend to give standard (dull) answers to similar questions, this was actually very interesting and entertaining

It's common to see male friends holding hands and linking arms. It's also common to see male friends sitting on the laps of other males with the person behind hugging the person in front. This is not being homosexual, this is a show of close bonding. The meaning is nothing more than one of trust and closeness. Very commonly males will slap each other on their bums to show friendship. Additionally, in the workplace it is common for a boss to put his hand on the leg of an individual lower in the hierarchy to show that he's looking after him or that they're friends. Rubbing legs is common too. An additional example would be, in schools it is totally acceptable for a student to give a teacher a back or hand massage be they male or female. Leading from this, the majority of students have their teachers added on social networking such as LINK app or Kakao Talk.

False equivalency. Community is criticizing those individuals who are stating that they are "disturbed" by behavior wrongly interpreted as homosexual in nature. These posters are: a) stupid, as the behavior is clearly platonic and not gay b) homophobic, as they are insinuating that there is a basis for affectionate male-male behavior being "disturbing" c) possibly not confident in their own sexuality, as it's not uncommon to see closeted gay people lash out like this No one in the thread is questioning whether or not there is romantic tension. Just a couple people pushing their homophobic agenda on the TL forums. Nothing new really. Heh.

Yes, physical affection between close male friends is common. Sitting on each other's lap, putting arms around shoulders, linking arms when walking. Physical violence between friends is ALSO a sign of a close bond. So the older (always and only the older) can give the younger a slap. All these actions are common cultural norms and don't deserve a second mention. However, I do have a problem with some ppl saying that cuddling or holding hands is acceptable as I think it might lead to a misunderstanding for some westerners. We need to be clear that it’s also an age thing. After a certain age, holding hands with interlinking fingers, like one would do with their bf/gf, is not acceptable. Cuddling as in hugging in the theatre or on a bed, is not acceptable. Also, it looked obvious to me that Parting and MC weren’t holding hands. Parting was just playing with MC's hands and fingers. If you're a westerner you might find that distracting or disconcerting (it shouldn’t be disturbing). As an Asian I just found it annoying, and apparently, so did MC, because he shook off Parting and gave him an annoyed look after a short time.

May i ask who you are to deside on how people should show effection on one another ? This is all nitpicking on 2 korean men who have a close connection with another in a culture that is accepting of that matter. We in the west may find it strange, but for them so are many or our cultural traits. People in the west in general have no problems when 2 korean men hug or hold hands. I am pretty sure everyone could see that. What should they say instead of, "OMG that slap was hilarious!"? Should it be "OMG that fake slap on the back of his own hand was hilarious!"? First one is better i think. This video was hilarious tho, made me like MC even more, he looked like the boss in all of that interview. Even without winning in over a year. Was surprised to see MC just flat out admit his pvp is bad and it will be impossible for him to win. I guess MC knew partings winrate right now too. Still, props on keeping it real and always putting on the show.

Indeed. Me and my friends would have absolutely no problem doing this. And our culture is as western as it gets. Although I don't think it really has that much to do with East vs West. I can bet there's also plenty of easterners from the older generations that would look down upon what they are doing. Your statement is merely a testament to the fact that bigots love to project their own insecurities onto other people in fear of being judged for something that they perceive to be wrong because of closed-mindedness.

It's very weird in our western eyes, but in many asian cultures it is quite normal for male (platonic) friends to hold hands and even cuddle. No,it's not, trust me.It's weird if male friends do that.

Maybe because the immortals and the sentries go across the map, they tend to be aligned in a file like the wagons of a train. That's my interpretation though.

He didn't say he has a problem with Asian guys holding hands or hugging each other, he said he has a problem with people saying that it is part of Asian culture for men to hold hands and hug because they are wrong and could mislead other foreigners into thinking that is normal in platonic Asian relationships. He also specifically said that men holding each other's hands should not be considered disturbing. Disconcerting, maybe, because that is something we aren't used to seeing in public in the West, but definitely not disturbing.
