Trickster (aka Tester), a veteran of Broodwar and WoL, returned from military service to try his hand at the Code A qualifiers. Unfortunately, he was eliminated in his very first match by Samsung Galaxy KHAN's Armani (aka Burning).
Avenge retires, but Startale gets Trickster. Seems like a downgrade honestly especially coming off of a longgggg break but we'll see how he adjusts! Rooting for him in the qualifier.

I just remember at an MLG in 2011 he was in SeleCT's group and I was worried considering all the Korean dominance that had happened. Then SeleCT absolutely CRUSHED him 2-0. I'm pretty sure he got knocked out by Demuslim too.
Don't remember him making huge waves in early GSL's either. We'll see how he does in the qualifier.

he's proabably really cheap and just wants a shot.
P.s. I'm still mad that he got invited to the gsl exchange program instead of a bunch of players I would have preferred but I'm not holding that against him

:D Cool to see TesteR coming back! Anyone know if there is any news on ST.SUPERSTAR? I think he enlisted at the same time as TesteR did if I remember correctly.
One of my favourite games of all time. Sick hold by Tester, was super sad when he left. Might be enough to get me excited about the scene again if he does well!

Lots of ignorant people on the first page. Tester was, alongside FruitDealer and maybe IdrA, hands down the best player in the world from beta until the end of the first GSL. Tester was legendary at the time.

Not sure if he popularized that one, he was known for his pylon ramp block in PvZ that had to be patched.
I was a pretty big Tester fan back in the day, and I can easily get in his corner for one more go around

that was cool. I had a game like that but from the terran experience when I actually played SC2, it was annoying.

he created the initial 4 gate build - with probes pulled out of gas and pylons building everywhere in the opponents base, waring in only zealots (warpgate tech had shorter research time).
With all of the news surrounding teams disbanding and players retiring, this is definitely something good. I don't expect him to win any major tournaments, but I love seeing people coming back to the game. I would love to see more GSL season 1 players return. If RainBOw and FruitDealer come back to StarTale, I will live off of Red Bull to support them.

Wait there's a player named hyper dub? That's my favorite record company, that's so cool.
woah! haha, pretty awesome, he's pretty old for a korean progamer and has been gone a long time, so i dont expect much, but i would LOVE to be proven wrong! GL Tester :D

Was... It seems that he didn't go too far in any of the GSLs, though for some reason I used to mistakenly think he got to the finals of Season 1. He's talked about somewhat often relative to other retired players of his time.

Hyperdub was one of the perpetual Code S terrans that got third in groups in ro32 and therefore was never knocked out of Code S. He was on oGs. This was in 2010 during the first 3 seasons and then 2011 with code S.
Hahaha. It would be SO hard for him to make it now, as the kind of player he was. I'm not seeing it. It would be like trying to be hyvaa, which necessarily stopped working for hyvaa... and while being incredibly out of shape. But I wish him all the luck and hope to see it work out for him.

my favorite player of all-time. I scheduled my 2010 fall and 2011 spring classes around GSL solely for the purpose of staying up and watching his games. nothing would mean more to me and would interest me in Starcraft again than to see Tester qualify and play in a professional match of some capacity again. selfishly hoping that he is going to actually play for a while and this wasn't just a for fun kind of thing.
Go trickster! My very first memories of watching SC are of you in the first GSL seasons. Anyone associated with that time holds a special place in my heart. Good luck

Shhhh you aren't allowed to love the game apparently.

he plays protoss, it is not by any means a down market

Ignore him, he only shows up to make doomsday posts.
Somewhat unrelated: why did Hack switch back to Korea?? He already had his spot in WCS AM o.O just doesnt make much sense to me when he got further in WCS AM season 3 than he did in any korean tournament

Trickster and Fruitdealer (aka ssks and cool) were far and away the 2 very best SC2 players back in the beta. They were the best players in early WoL too, and then they got rich and threw their careers away and started scandals. I rooted for them back in the day, but now I hope he just gets crushed and moves on with his life outside of eSports.
Oh wow, I was a big fan of his in the early WoL days looking for a good protoss that would actually macro and this guy was the nexus first or die trying guy before them all.
Really glad he's back, I hope he can show good results like he used to.

Proleague protoss players wouldn't agree I believe

Nah, you're talking about Ensnare and Virus. Hyperdub was only in two seasons of Code S. He made Ro16 in the first one, bombed straight to Code A in the next one
HAHA! I still remember him in the King of the Beta finals vs. IdrA.
The stone faced robot killer vs. the slightly more pallid, balding stone faced robot killer. Absolutely great memories and my first contact with professional SC2.

Man, I loved his play back in beta/early release(and broodwar). In a time with many retirements it's cool to see someone who's been in the game forever still have the drive to keep trying.

He got Top 8 in the first GSL
It's possible that I missed that because I was too busy fanboying over Rainbow back then.
Actually just looked it up and realized Rainbow played Trickster on his way to the finals so idk how I forgot that.

Where does it say that he is now on StarTale?
It said that in the OP until it was edited. I guess it was just a rumour?
Hey, this is cool. I never watched much of Tester, but I remember being really excited to see him in the King of the BEta tournament way back when because he was so hyped up. I'm sure he'll make some splashes soon
I used to think he dropped off so quickly in early WoL because he stubbornly refused to play how other protoss were playing, I think the mothership core will suit him well but it's been a long time. It would be really cool to see him have some success though.
Apparently there's going to be some online cup in a couple of weeks where both Legend and Trickster (whose ID change to Bulldozer looks to be official) are going to participate. Also pretty much confirms he is on ST (he has already tagged thus in Code A qualifiers).
Oh wow, interesting! I wonder if this cup was determined through invites or qualifiers, and how the groups were determined, because each group is pretty much racially balanced. Most of these players seem to be right below the very highest level, like Code A or mid Code S, so it'll be good to seem their play.
E: better to post this in the tournament announcement thread
