Once StarCraft II Patch 2.1 is in your hands, you’ll find a number of exciting new leveling rewards to help customize your look on Battle.net and in-game. We’re also happy to share that we’ve increased the level cap for each race from 30 to 35 so that those of you who are hungry for more out-of-game progression can get your fix with a six-course meal of new portraits and decals.
New Leveling Rewards
We’ve seen the immense amount of support and enthusiasm that many of you share for the animated “StarCrafts” series, created by Jonathan Burton of Carbot Animations, and we’ve also heard your requests to see more of his content added to StarCraft II. Jonathan visited Blizzard HQ a short time before BlizzCon 2013 and while he was here, we asked him to draw up a few new portraits and decals that we could offer to you in-game. Let’s take a look at the awesome artwork he put together to make this happen.
As you can see above, we’ve got a Carbot-themed portrait and decal for each race, meaning there’s a total of six brand new rewards waiting for you with Patch 2.1. All you’ll have to do to earn them is play games of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm to gain XP and level up. Achieving levels 32 and 35 with Protoss, Terran, or Zerg will respectively award you with the decal and portrait specific to that race. Reach level 35 with each of the three races to collect them all!
First Win of the Day
Alongside the new rewards and increased level cap, we’ve also quadrupled the amount of XP you’ll earn with “First Win of the Day” XP bonuses. Following the patch, your first win of the day with each race will award 100,000 XP so that you can pack even more punch into your StarCraft II play sessions.
We’re always looking for new ways to make leveling in StarCraft II an even more fun and rewarding experience, so we hope you enjoy these “StarCrafts”-themed portraits and decals once we release Patch 2.1. If you haven’t had the chance to check out an episode of StarCrafts yet, or just can’t get enough of Jonathan’s work, you can head to the official Carbot Animations YouTube channel and CarbotAnimations.com to stay up to date with all the latest releases.

I like the first win of the day thing!
|
Solid additions. Exactly what the game needs.
Hope there will be a way to disable those decals.
|
Protoss is the first race on both the pictures and they use protoss for win of the day blizzard bias confirmed + Show Spoiler +This is some pretty obvious sarcasm <3
|
first win of the day thing is def a good way to get people to at least put in a few every day, just wish the levels were harder to get so that people wouldn't max level in 1 week lol
|
Finally.
|
So.... is that all? I mean, aren't there some other very *cough* *cough* important things to address *cough *cough* ?

people are so negative, i like it and it's obviously not the only thing they will be bringing with the patch 2.1, they already announced other things during blizzcon.
|
I hate to be so negative, but who really cares about having a level cap increase from 30 to 35? it's not like we're earning customizable paint schemes for our units, and this isn't an MMO. XP and a leveling system just feels totally unnecessary on the grand scale of things that the community wants Blizzard to work on.
|
nice preview i'm so excited guys, can't handle all this emotion

What? and what happened to the Clan decals/logos & the new Mods system???

You guys are aware this is not a full list of changes, right? They've mentioned earlier that they will be doing all kinds of additional changes like re-introducing SC1 music and changing ladder parameters so the leagues are distributed differently, etc.

Compare please to 1.5 and 2.0 patches.
Is it that hard to draw 10-30 more new decals, add 100 new levels and keep casual player-base in the game for a longer time? Is it that hard to do story DLC which will add more missions to campaign with planets conquering by Broodmothers? Is it that hard to release more agressive testing with more balance testing maps? Is it that hard to add gamemodes with achievements? Or just make them from leveling? Is it that hard to add new backgrounds for menu?
Answer to all of those questions - no, it's easier to make Heroes-MOBA with Kerrigan riding on the pony.
Last time I have feeling that SC2 team is just one programmer, that doing entire job. So slow, so few, so weak...

I'm not sure what your point is...? I never contested that this patch had less content than the last one, I was just pointing out that the list of changes in the OP is not complete since a few people seemed to be confused by it.

SQUEEEEE!!! Carbot Ling! But seriously, nice to see Blizzard continuing to keep an ear on the community. Sure we can always ask for more "important" changes (no whining, no whining) but I think anyone can agree that these proposed changes are not "bad". Thank you Blizzard!

I don't get why people are so excited about these XP and levels things... doesn't mean anything at all and we had nothing like that in BW and nobody ever complained. I'll never understand the new generation of gamers but oh well if it can please some, why not?
|
Imo if they really want to motivate players to play with different races, they need to seperate the MMR (and league) with each race. As of now, if I try to ladder with any race besides my main race, I will be crushed... hard...

I don't think this is something about the new generation of gamers, but more like general human psychology. The same trick has been used since ages in those types of coupons where collect stamps, stickers or points and get a rewards once you accumulated enough of them.

As it is now, I think unranked games have a seperate MMR, so you can use that to play offrace. Ofc that won't change the fact that the starting MMR is probably that of your ladder and you'll probably lose a lot of games in the beginning, but it has to start somewhere...

Ranked and unranked, multiple it to each region. Two for Europe, two for Korea, two for US and two for NA.

Also it's just maxium MMRs you may have. You don't need all of them. Probably 2-4 is enought (aka 1-2 servers).
I think, that unranked play is more than enough for you to practice other race. Also there are tons of tutorials as all three races and vsAI games also, which is also a great way to start learn new race from easy enemies that become harder and harder, and you may see that progression and control it.

Some nice portraits, will have to actually finishing leveling my off races up now.

This is actually a big deal. I wish people wouldn't have sticks up their ass about it.
1. They've showed a willingness to extend a hand out to successful community contributors. This gives incentive for contributors to keep contributing and for non-contributors to contribute. It keeps the community active and involved. This is incredibly important to sustaining a game's popularity and its viability as an e-sport.
2. Levels are actually a big deal. I have a lot of friends that leveled to 90 and then basically stopped playing. Will they come back for 15 more levels? It can't hurt their chances of returning. The most important thing is the game needs more exposure on all levels, especially on a fan level. If people come back to play the game, there is a chance they will bring in other people to play the game. There is a chance they will watch more streams. There is a chance it will help the game's popularity. The only real flaw is that it's too easy to level up.
3. First win of the day bonuses encourage people to at least play a few games everyday. I don't think it's good to make leveling up easier than it already is but it's a compromise needed for a greater good -- increasing the chance people will play daily or more frequently. It's great if they can sit down and grind out 10 levels in one day. It's even better if they spread that out over a week because they realize it's more efficient with first-win bonuses.

I agree that they should do that. But as a work around just play unranked until you start winning.
|
there should be an achievement for reaching the max level, records the date that you did so
so that theres a way to differentiate between players who are all max level
like right now theres alot of level 90s, but you have no idea who got to that level first
i have the dark voice portrait and the predator portrait, and these are linked to achievements that clearly show the date they were reached, there should be something similar for the max level cap, since Blizzard is emphasizing experience leveling so much now

Yes, forcing me to switch modes and / or change region to play with an offrace.
In my opinion, there should be 9 MMRs, one per matchup per account. They shouldn't be totally independent from each other, because most casual players will never play enough games in a specific matchup to gauge their skill, but they should be separate.

Nope, is it that hard to implement seperate MMRs? Besides, the solution of changing region might work for me, but there are people for which the solution does not work, depending on which time zone they live in, at what time they can play and how much lag they have to the other alien servers.
Besides, if there is something like levels and achievement, I'd like to have them on a single account. Yes, I am that shallow of a person.

Implementing separate MMRs might be hard, yes. They would completely have to change how promotions and rankings work, since they are now based on a summary of all your matchups.

Can't they just rank MMR based on your arithmetic middle for example? Or maybe there are more sophisticated methods, but you just need to settle on one.

As of now, if I try to ladder with any race besides my main race, I will be crushed... hard... You know you already have 8 different MMRs? Ranked and unranked, multiple it to each region. Two for Europe, two for Korea, two for US and two for NA. Is it that hard to click on Menu and click on s small Globe icon and/or click on unranked button near the ranked one? Nope, is it that hard to implement seperate MMRs? Besides, the solution of changing region might work for me, but there are people for which the solution does not work, depending on which time zone they live in, at what time they can play and how much lag they have to the other alien servers. Besides, if there is something like levels and achievement, I'd like to have them on a single account. Yes, I am that shallow of a person. Implementing separate MMRs might be hard, yes. They would completely have to change how promotions and rankings work, since they are now based on a summary of all your matchups.
No, not really. It would be quite simple actually. From a programming stand-point, it'd be essentially the exact same concept of unranked vs. ranked mmr, but with promotions enabled. Very simple.
Of course, the UI part of it would be more complicated, as screens would have to change to display separate ladders/rankings and statistics, etc. IMO I think unranked is enough to play around with other races, but I really would love to see 4 different MMRs (don't forget random ), would be super cool to see a profile layout with 3 leagues

am i the only one who is getting a bit annoyed with the theme starcraft is taking. Carbot it excellent, but im getting fed up of it all over my serious RTS strategy its changing the viial identity of sc2(possibly the reason this style of cute animation works with such a produce as it is its polar opposite). Please. Can we stop it now? Thinking about it, maybe this is intentional to bring the game to look like its for 11 - 14 year olds
