The return of the MLP open bracket
|
Polt getting them paychecks!
|
so a stacked open bracket leading to a stomp from the koreans when they get to the championship bracket?
|
Open bracket yes! Glad to see an official statement
|
Wait, so international players have to start from the open bracket? No qualifiers into the championship bracket whatsoever for them? :o
|
I'm pretty sure mlg is still the only tournament to charge players to play.

Also, Esports is one of the few competitive fields that doesn't charge an entry fee for most of their events.

It's the old format! I love it.

I'm really happy to see the 2011 MLG format back

Smash Brothers Melee is a much better game than Brawl, I approve. Oh wait, this is a Starcraft related thread

Wait, it costs $75 to play in the open bracket??
So of the $40,000 prize pool, MLG wants $14,400+ of it (192 x 75...for those who sign up early, lolz) to come from the players themselves?????

I don't understand the frustration, coming from Call of Duty 4 PC community, teams of 5 often paid 350 € entrance fees and 90% of tournaments were entry-fee-funded.
|
That's garbage too. This isn't poker, risking your own money isn't supposed to be part of the equation.

Sounds too good to be true!

Really hope Leenock participates, feels like his home tournament.

Certainly not, but it sucks a lot for any pro player who flies out to Anaheim, loses, and watches Polt stand on the stage with a big check made out to him from their money. People wonder why SC2 is dying, well, a total lack of financial support for the people who ostensibly play it to pay rent and buy food and stuff might have something to do with it. Charging $75 to play in your tournament? Sheesh.

This is going to be interesting.

I don't know about many other sports, but when I rode Motocross it was ~$25 to ~$35 per class sign up, excluding camping and all that of course.
I think it's totally logical to charge an entry fee to play in a large event.

am I the only one who sees no competitor passes on sale?
|
Oh my god those passes pay so much. They won't get alot people to open bracket
|
i don't think there are a lot of people good enough to belong in the open bracket who aren't serious enough competitors to put $75 toward starcraft. don't competitive players drop that kind of money buying and replacing hardware and equipment anyway? unless they're sponsored, in which case wouldn't the sponsor SURELY pay the fee?
yeah it's a lot of money, not everyone has that kind of money to spend on starcraft, but if you don't then why do you want to be at MLG anaheim? it's not like starcraft is a working class occupation, it's a choice to pursue gaming as a career and you should know it's not going to be stable

Good old MLG format makes me happy.
|
Holy cow we get an NA tourney with the opportunity for NA players to get an exposure, and the full massive open bracket from old MLGs that was amazing, and people STILL COMPLAIN? Lol if I gave some of you people 5,000 dollars you would whine and ask for 10,000 more dollars.
|
Wow melee returning to an MLG event after 6 (7?) years. I can see an MLG-SOSPA partnership in the works :D.
|
Open bracket without an entrance fee would be really strange imo.

I had a good time

SSBM + SC2 = Best MLG ever. Now they just need to replace CoD with CS:GO.
I hope everyone checks out the melee stream to see what it's all about.
|
Awesome. I really miss MLGs with their open brackets!
|
I hope they hire some professional casters and not just put Destiny and Catz in there.

That's for online qualifiers I think, the open bracket should be open to all according to past tweets.
|
Yeah, I understand it the same way, the OP states it under qualifiers and says above, that 12 players are being seeded into the pool play via qualifiers, so the Open bracket will be International (Which only makes sence, because they give out WCS points. I still think, it is bad to give one region such a big advantadge though, euro toureys almost always have qualifiers for all 3 regions. And this pretty much guarantees 6 americans in the top 16 (16-top4WB-top4LB-Polt-viOLet), giving 1 region assured WCS points.
|
Besides StarCraft 2, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Super Smash Brothers Melee will also be at the tournament.
no LoL? wow

Open bracket =/= qualifier. Koreans/international players will be allowed to participate in the open bracket, qualifiers for being seeded into pool play are NA only. So yes it will be sick open bracket into Koreans raping NA players in pool play. Should be fun!
Also SICK that they are bringing back super smash, feels like it's been forever since it was featured at an MLG.
@monsta: I wouldn't host a LoL tournament either, LCS is way to monopolizing, plus DOTA (which was originally planed to be featured) brings in fairly similiar viewership and I highly doubt Riot would allow them to run both games at the same event anyway.
|
pretty excited for the return of Melee. maybe the new game can replace it but atm definitely outclasses Brawl for competition
|
My dream would be to have MarineKing there ;D

With everything being LCS, its difficult to run a big LoL event like they used to. Even that Anaheim event wasn't them same

I loved MLG open brackets. Always creates tension for the viewers and hope for the players as they still have a fighting chance

People are much more negative than they have been in the past, don't worry.
Those who don't want to pay: you aren't required to play, so either don't play or win it back.

Looks sick! Interesting game lineup too so pumped for SSBM!

Some people just need something to moan about.
I want to thank MLG for bringing back Super Smash Bros. Melee. If I remember correctly it was 2007 when you guys retired it and I was pretty sad back in the day, so I'm fucking stocked it's back.

MLG quickly becoming Minor League Gaming in the eyes of foreigners (not from the US). Can't host a pro LoL tourney and their SC2 is an amateur tournament with a couple pros (kind of similar to semi pro tournaments that consist of a bunch of decent players getting stomped by a top 100 pro).
Nevertheless, America needs them, and both LoL and SC2 need more minor leagues to participate in. WCS Challenger isn't even close to cutting it.
I just hope MLG can stay afloat with these circumstances approaching.

Interesting. Yes, I hope for the sake of Starcraft 2 that MLG is successful at Anaheim and that we get to see some great games. Also, having Axeltoss and Axslav host, cast, and/or analyze would be great.

not bad considering how fast the mlg store went down.

It'd be good to see some giant open bracket play again. Here's hoping for some upsets and dark horses!

Nice to see MLG operating just like old times! Hopefully this one is a success and we have an east coast event! :D
|
Aren't there qualifiers this weekend? I can't find any info on them...

hopefully i'll have the time to watch and revitalize my interest in the game :D

I really look forward to watch an open bracket MLG again, it's been too long.

|
Any update on who's signing up for the open bracket? I heard MKP anyone else? Kespa guys?
|
Not very familiar with that, but is the entering cost usually that high ? They get like half of the prize pool by that. EDIT : didn't read the comments before asking ^^
