I don't understand the foreign audience's need for a foreign representation in the top level tournaments. American Football holds an American only "World Championship", which is fitting because while it is the most watched sporting event only Americans have a great team. If there was a Go (board game) tournament, wouldn't you expect all the players to be of east Asian descent? Doesn't NASCAR and F1 racing have almost exclusively American and European participants respectively?
The best games (entertainment) comes from the highest level of competition. I guess less evolved and educated people feel the urge to seek a connection with the participants, instead of judging them by their ability, skill, and execution.

Main reason is that there are no different tournament. Everyone can participant every tournament, this doesnt feel different! I enjoyed to watch German Cup (few days ago) and the French one (yesterday). Highest level doesnt make the Difference.

Not for me, difference show me the best entertainment. I would be super happy if we have this like in football. National Cup like Primiera Division , Seria A, Bundesliga, Premier League etc and we have regional stuff like Champions League, UEFA Europe ligue, Copa america etc and international stuff like FIFA Club World Cup etc.
In sc2, we have only national (only Germany and France it seems so, never heard from other country) and international (everything else).
GSL and WCS are international for me, because everyone can attend (qualify). I wish they are regionlocked or whatever. Even KR doesnt have a national league/cup wtf.

I guess this is the difference between an unbiased analysis and passionate fan.
Soccer has way more racism and bigotry than the NFL does, if you want to compare look at Terry compared to the Eagles wideout. If you want to stay in the past and play out regional rivalries instead of perfecting techniques and refining gameplay, I guess national leagues would be a welcome sight.

this means you want to buff the unbiased analysis and punish the passionate fan?
I guess this is THE trend since a decade. Passionate people must always suffering.

Thanks Gom exp. Looking forward to this! Wish I had bought an annual ticket now instead of a season one.

Innovation! Go win this! :D

Do I get it right that this tournament follows more or less the old "Blizzard Cup" structure (except for the qualifiers?)

Players - Two Top Players of 2014 GSL Season 1 - Two Top Players of 2014 WCS AM Season 1 - Two Top Players of 2014 WCS EU Season 1
I take it that "two top players" means the finalists?
Edit: Nvm, no need for derail.

I read this thread before going to sleep and then I had an awesome dream tonight. The final was Flash vs Jaedong and was held in a hangar the Jin Air lady provided. It was the biggest live audience for an esports event ever and the most epic series going to game 7. Media from all over the world was there and Flash won game 7 with a bunker rush. It made headlines all over the world and in the korean prime minister (he looked like Boxer) declared this day as a new holiday, the "Flash Day". SC2 went on to be the biggest sport in the world.
Something like that.

The issue is that a lot of people have an easier time identifying with people of their own race and not everyone seems to care about the highest level of play. Gladly, in starcraft you are given the option to only watch the highest level of play (GSL/PL) or you can watch something that has foreigners and high level Koreans (dreamhack, iem etc.) or you can watch foreigner only stuff like the MLG invitationals. Personally, I agree with you, but I think gom saw a chance to appeal to both audiences, plus Koreans love watching Koreans rape Foreigners.
