Way to post this when application period is almost over...

Do you actually have to be masters, or do they just get "priority" like in pre-WCS GSL qualifiers?

12 years old is the minimum age? 12 year olds shouldn't be allowed to be pro gamers.... People don't learn enough to live a professional life at such a young age o.o
Just my opinion... I know that kids like Life etc hit the scene when they were like 14-16, but imo 16 should be the minimum age. They still have high school to focus on. Fitting into society should be important at that age, and high school is a big part in that. Being successful in GSL and getting a pro team at the age of 12 allows a high chance of disaster to occur in the kids future outside of SC2. (imo).

Still don't see the issue.

The problem I see is that it will get more difficult for players in other regions to qualify since there's lag issues in the same way it's difficult for koreans to qualify for WCS EU.
I've gotten the feeling that they want to host the Global Tournament to get the best of the best to play in Korea, including players in other WCS regions. If that's what they want, a world class player like MC or jjakji will have a hard time qualifying if they play from EU.
It's obviously up to GOM how they want to do in their own tournament, but it wont be the "best of the best" players playing, just the best of the non-lag regions (which is close to all of the best!).
edit: Worth noting is that the players in other regions also can qualify via coming first or second in WCS, so there's a lag free option
|
This is basically just the replacement for the season finals from last year's wcs.
Just smaller with less wcs points and open qualifiers because blizzard decided that wcs shouldnt be that dominant anymore and it shouldnt snowball that much anymore when you are successful in wcs.

When you've done Pro Gaming since 12 years old, you tend to not pick up other skills during a crucial time in your development.
Anyways, there are pros and cons to every situation, and freedom is good. Some people can become huge successes, but you don't hear about all of the failures that lead to people living harder lives than necessary. Good for Maru and BaBy.

It's literally society's decision, and not up to the kids. In this case, if a kid screws up, the society he was raised in is to blame, as well as his parents.
Like I said, I'm all for freedom, but people shouldn't get ahead of themselves here... GSL gives them that freedom starting at 12, their parents give consent, and it's all good. That's fine, but if I were a parent, and I was really okay with having my kid as a pro gamer, I'd have him stay focused on school and train for games on the side. 12 years old is too young to enter a career in my opinion. A kid needs life skills to enter adulthood. That's my opinion.

Twelve-year-old kids are twelve-year-old kids and not really fit to make that kind of decision. I think it's fine to let them play however, but team houses should probably have some kind of age-limit (maybe they do, I don't know) and teams should actively encourage such young players to not neglect their studies.

Could we not have this discussion that in threads where it's essentially irrelevant? Especially considering we've already had it like 500 times at least, all of which in threads not dedicated to it.

It is not society's decision it is their parents decision as their legal guardians.Society only lays down the law that kids need guardians to make the decisions for them until they reach maturity.

I don't think anyone knows but since it's being run by GSL there's a good chance it isn't

You guys are forgetting it's a 'global' tournament in the fact that they're inviting the top 2 players from WCS America and WCS Europe season 1 to compete.
And of course anyone can play in the qualifiers. It's just Koreans get the home-server advantage in quals compared to them playing with latency in a qualifier in Europe or America.

im not saying they are NOT good, rogue and hydra are insanely good, i just get bored of people who just have no personality whatsoever. its not fun to watch. like even zest was a pretty boring winner. you won a fucking 4-3 grand finals and the increased prize pool of 70k and you barely show any kind of emotion. yes i know theres like one image of him holding a smirk for like 2 seconds. its hard to root for people like that. like there is a REASON why soO, who has reached two GSL finals IN A ROW, has only 5 pages in his fan page

First round (round of... 10) is a 2 group 5 man round robin for the 10 people who qualified. 1st place makes it to the next round.
Second round is 2 group 4 man GSL style group containing the 6 Top 2s of each region + 2 from the previous round
then Ro4 brackets
