It obviously sucked that WCS AM had to be played out in Europe with no American participation except for Nathanias, but that is bound to change. As we can see in the qualifiers, the soft region lock works in the way that mostly local talent will filter in. We'll still see Korean only later rounds, but it looks better for the long run, especially by giving more breathing room for hometown up & comers

I have no idea when seasons end or begin its so confusing, I mean I am not stupid so duh, yeah it has a "finals" don't have to post that to this. I just mean, these "seasons" are so short, should a sport have non stop games all year? Each region having 4 winners a year? Or is it 3? Anyway the season is over and Code S roster has already been decided, how can that give a breather to players to discover a new meta, its so breathless people just have to go back to work the next day. And I know everyone hates the faceless Koreans bullshit, so I apologize for saying it but c'mon it really makes it worse to have everyones winner be the same nationality, increasing the homogeneity exponentially. So indistinct seasons, and blurry winners no casual fan can remember every single one, makes for a really repetitious experience. DOTA2 is so much better, they just have these big tournaments and it culminates in The International 2. I think Blizzard should copy this model of western players going against each other in a soft region lock, then they gradually introduce Koreans as the tournaments get more difficult, Koreans don't even need to be in our "minor leagues" Blizzard. We can have a WCS EU winner who is European and then have bigger tournaments than that, WCS EU can be a middle of the road. Dreamhack we combine East and West and then the best possible Koreans play in the true WCS Finals. That way NA/EU IS a goal for the 99%. Then the true tournaments are won by Korean still, however we still can see some hype showered on NA/EU players, and if some NA players win in the higher end international tournaments then we'll know who they are and be able to feel the hype from their victories.

Not to say GSL was much better. Last season sucked.

I don't think I agree with this, it would make the global finals feel really moot. But the prize pool for GSL should be significantly higher than WCS AM/EU considering the overall quality of the players. Right now placing 32nd in AM gives you more money than placing 9th in Code S even though placing 9th in GSL is way more prestigious. So of course koreans are migrating to the other regions, they're just making way more money that way.

MC and MMA have both proved that not only are they the absolute elite players of WCS EU, but they have been for the past 10 months. It's not often in a tournament where you have the exact same finalist repeat and both make the finals the next tournament. Reminds me of Jangbi and Fantasy in BW. Good times.
