KeSPA will be paying travel support for RorO. As a new policy this season, KeSPA is sending players who won the Round MVP award in Proleague or placed 1st~2nd in the rankings to international tournaments. The players ranked ahead of RorO declined to participate, thus the opportunity fell to RorO.
RorO has forfeited his participation in the GSL Global Tournament as a result.
For reference, Maru won the MVP award for both Proleague Round 1 & 2. RorO is currently 5th place in the Proleague rankings behind herO, TY, Flash, and Maru.
I remember when it was initially announced KeSPA would be doing stuff like this, I was wondering when we'd finally see it. Also, It'll be good to see RorO against the non GSL/proleague koreans

Firstly, there is no more esf.
Secondly, even if esf still existed, how does this move fuck over esf? If anything, the esf players should have a higher chance of winning the Global Tournament without RorO around.

It fucks up the event, poaches it's players, and lowers credibility. Fucking over the organizers of the Global Finals (I meant GSL not ESF) right before he's supposed to play leaving no time to find a replacement is stupid

ya, it's definitely weird but it's not like roro was the first on their list. It just so happened that the rest declined. Flash also declined and he wasn't in the global finas either so ya, odd but guess it happened lol.

Damn, are people going to ever get over the dogspa hate train? RorO was the first player to accept, its not really KeSPA's fault. If anything RorO should've declined due to GSL Global Tournament, so if you wanna hate on anyone hate on RorO.

Except that both Flash & Maru are waiting in group B, the same group as Roro, Or did you mean TY/herO? Either way you're right, I presume Roro was free to decline just like the rest, Kespa just sent whoever was willing to go.

I don't understand this logic. Why is KeSPA to blame here? Its RorO that decided he wants to go to DH over the Global Finals in fact KeSPA is kind of doing an awesome job by paying for it.

It`s one less player in a qualifier group. It hardly fucks up the event and isn`t poaching.KESPA owns the player and gave its player an opportunity overseas. Roro chose to take up the offer and you can hardly blame him in a format with about a 20% chance of advancing from his group. Globals will survive without his massive fanbase regardless.
Basically Kespa pays for one of its top players to attend a foreign major and people still find a way to make them the bad guy.
yeah tbh I agree with the people who are saying Kespa isn't at fault here. Sounds like RorO could have just said no DH has higher prize pool, should be easier to win, and he gets to travel. I can see why he wants to go. Surprised so many others passed it up

That isn't true though. Kespa just pays the travel for RorO, nothing more and nothing less. I think he finally deserves a chance of reedeming himself in tournaments outside of korea.

I'm glad some are saying "yay Roro at an international tournament" though, rather than just dummy spitting about their only being four people competing for ONE spot, instead of five.

Plus, people who are complaining failed to realyze that it is good for Samsumg too, while not so for KT or CJ.
Given the insane competive level of the global tournament, I'd say this is a really good idea. Strange that none of the players ranked higher than Roro accepted.

Considering the names (herO, TY, Flash, and Maru), I don't find it too surprising. They likely want to stay lazer-focused on training and maintaining their forms. I don't think it's necessarily a lack of interest or something like that.
Sucks for GSL but man I can't wait to watch DH now. Watching KeSPA pros play in foreign tournaments is always so exciting, especially when it's someone like RorO. Their new policy is also pretty cool.

For everyone now claiming I'm a conspiracy theorist and blame Kespa for all the world's problems, hear me out. Of course it's good for Roro. He gets to go to an arguably easier tournament with a bigger prize pool. Of course it's nice of Kespa, they're paying for one of their top players to go to a foreign event, which they usually can't go to. I just think the least Kespa could do is figure this out and notify GSL well in advance. CJ herO was 2nd to Roro in his qualifier bracket. If this had been brought up 2 weeks ago like it should have, herO could have simply replaced Roro and all would be well. Kespa is big enough and professional enough to have sorted this out and notified GSL ahead of time, but they didn't.

Kespa probably didn't expect so many players to decline the spot to come it down to Roro lol

Okay? Their first choice was Maru (also in Global final). Other choices were TY, Flash, and herO of which Flash is in it as well. This doesn't change the fact that they should have started asking people a long time ago.

How is this a bad thing? Korean teams focus pretty hardcore on Proleague, often to the potential detriment of their players' ability to earn dough at foreign tournaments. Rewards good Proleague play, so there is no detrimental effect on the level of that competition, and deserving players get chances at earning a bit of cash for themselves that are sometimes denied due to PL/other commitments.

RorO probably wasn't forced to go to DH and chose to go himself? Because all the other players refused... so if anything this was RorO's own choice of skipping out on GSL... and therefore if anyone is screwing over GSL, it's RorO but just looking at the prize pool and WCS points, it's evident that DH is an easier tournament with more reward...

Sounds like pretty awesome initiative to reward best players in PL. Even though the point is kind of lost if it continues to fall to rank5+ players in future.

I could not be happier to see my heroes live, but it is not like the Korean players are suddenly more interested in travelling for a single tournament. Especially considering the current state of PL, I am not surprised in the slightest many of the top dogs drop down the opportunity. It's arguably better that the ones who want to, get to go. It has superior chances of elevating the custom, possibly even making it a tradition. I do hope it grows and gets attention more and it's lovely to see commitment on organizers side.
I would like to see TY win the tournament but I wouldn't be surprised if he struggled. A lot of people have trouble when they travel for the first time
Even though I always liked Baby in BW for being a pretty solid Terran for his age, it's not until he recently joined KT that he became one of my favorite Terrans. I love watching this guy play and him being at Dreamhack is gonna be amazing. Sadly, traveling for the first time and the fact that he recently didn't manage to qualify for Code S makes me feel like his Dreamhack run will be similar to Flash's. I hope Kespa continues to sent a few top players to these events, I didn't care much about DH Bucharest except for Jaedong, but with both Roro and TY going I'm a lot more hyped about the event!

It'll also be good to see them keep sending some people abroad because I think the WCS KR players were the ones most hurt by the removal of the season finals since they gained most of the points from them. The Koreans that pick up the outside tournament WCS points are almost all WCS AM and EU players which could shift the makeup of the BWC to more players from those regions
