GOM eXP have officially announced the 2014 Hot6ix Cup to wrap up the 2014 season of Korean StarCraft 2. The tournament will start on November 18th and finishes with an out-of-studio finals on December 7th.
A total 43,000,000 won in prize money will be awarded to sixteen players, who will be selected as follows:
Awesome. Sweet. OK. We gotta think this thing through.
10 players from online qualifiers. That's a lot. That basically guarantees people like Maru and Rain a spot, right? So we should be voting for the people who are on the edge of that "top 10" spot, like Bbyong or DRG, right? Unless it's some kind of bizarro BO1 format, or even a single elimination BO3, which would mean anything goes.
Looking at this list of players, I have to wonder how it was arranged. Not that I'm not happy to see Life as a votable option, but how the hell did he get into a 2014 "top 15" Kespa list? And don't you say he always finds a way. With the exception of Life and herO, everyone seems to be from S3 Ro16, so that part makes sense. And herO is probably being rewarded for PL, because Kespa can do that sort of thing. But Life?

I need to drink less coffee.
I guess you´re missing out that the HotSix Cup is not a Kespa tournament, so i don´t think they should be able to reward any of their players for a good year or anything. The tournament is organized and produced by GomTV as far as the announcement says, so i guess they made the Vote list. --------------------------------------- 2 Question: 1. Could any Mod add the link to the outcoming of the Vote? After i voted and wanted to check the standings, i just got the " you already filled this document" page, but no link or anything to see the results again. 2. Is there any information how long the vote will be up? Does it may end before the qualifier, so the voted players don´t have to player the qualifier at all?

Hmm. I thought Kespa was ultimately behind all Korean SC2, not just PL. So GomEXP is completely unrelated to Kespa?
Looks like they just went through the whole year and picked every semi- and quarter-finalist. I forgot that Life actually made it to the semis back in S1, and herO made a ro8 which explains why he got on the ballot while Stork and Shine (ro16) missed out.

Curious why you think that?
Because I believe that they view players differently than foreign fans do and generally are more passionate about e-sports culture. Having someone to qualify that is foreign fan favored for a tournament in Korea wouldn't be too cool to Korean fans imo

lol @ Korean passion > Foreign passion. News flash. The players we love also tend to be the most popular ones among Koreans. I'm sure Korean fans are gonna be sooo pissed when foreign favorites like Flash & Maru get invited -.-

You just said you didn't think non-Koreans should be allowed to vote in this poll because "they view players differently." Maybe I misunderstood, but that sounds like you're saying something about this poll.

That's a lot of speculation. I think everyone has their own bias and I wouldn't mind seeing the difference in foreign votes vs korean votes (or T votes vs P votes vs Z votes etc). However, it's only for 2/16 spots. I'm usually not a fan of viewer selected players, but with 5 times as many qualifier spots it doesn't really matter. If the fan picks are poor, they get eliminated in round 1 anyway.
Second, the reason any tournament has fan pics is... they want fan investment/hype because that usually ensures that fans watch. Now, it wouldn't deter my excitement or viewership if the popularity players were based on Korean popularity. However, other (foreign) viewers might be less likely to watch if that was the case. Since they are marketing the event to ALL fans it makes sense for ALL fans to be allowed to vote.

A total 43,000,000 won in prize money will be awarded to sixteen players English is not my native language but does this mean that all 16 players get money?
FlaSh and Maru still leading the votes, with a very comfortable lead for FlaSh. I hope most players on that list make it to the actual tournament tho, and those players are great players... T_T Also, soulkey is listed here. Didn't he take a break from competitive sc2 ? Does that mean he's back ?

As it says "A total" I assume that it means that the sum earnings this tournament is 43,000,000.
EDIT: But I don't know if that means that all 16 players earn something. Probably top 3 are earning most of that.

Luckily its KR vs NA, so we should have about 22 hours of starcraft a day with no overlap there.
In the end, Red Bull/Monster wins?
EDIT: Or you know, Hot6ix. I bet this was intentional, scheduling things so we'd have to watch non stop starcraft and thus consume copious amounts of Hot6ix in order to keep up. Now only if they'd sell outside of KR.
Also to be fair it would be more interesting if there were invites best on results in top tournaments like in Blizzard Cup: i.e. top ranking American region winner (Bomber), top ranking European region winner (MC) etc. I'm not really a fan of a tournament that's so heavily focused on korean region.

I'm sure that everyone will be allowed to participate in the qualifiers.

Hyun and Bomber have 3500pts. MMA has 3150 over MC 3000.
Edit: all four would have qualified for Bliizzcon without weekend tournaments.

The question is, can soO handle all that silver? The Blizzcon 2nd place award will probably take up the rest of his "silver is good too, Yellow was right after all" shelf, and now he'll have to make space for this one as well.

wait... this cannot be.. it is in the same period with Homestory cup 10. Flash is already attending there... if he will win in the voting system it means that he will not go to HSC?

GOM will probably move the groups around so he could play.

This is supposed to be a year-end tournament just for players participating in Code S. Sort of like what the Blizzard Cup was before HotS. Though I suppose nothing stops foreigners from competing in the online qualifiers (last year this was a closed tournament with no qualifiers).
I voted for Maru, but of course Flash will win the vote despite doing nothing to deserve it. I guess since it's two spots if Maru can keep second we'll see both of them.
Sick. Any word on how they're going to do the qualifiers? With that many coming from qualis I'd assume they'll be holding multiple qualifiers which is good, gives many chances for the big names who might have an off day and lets those who have miracle runs get their chance at the spotlight too

Blizzard Cup had no qualifiers but there were tournament results invites for top players so in 2011 it was for WCG (Mvp), MLG (NaNiwa & Leenock), IPL (Stephano), IEM (DRG?), BlizzCon (Mvp) and Dreamhack (HerO) + top 3 ranked players. It's funny that MMA won only because Mvp secured too many spots.
I doubt that the fan voting can count for charity voting. Given that this is a Korean tournament, I doubt that anybody apart from the top 3 will see any significant amount of money.

You're being harsh, Flash had a heck of a summer even though it didn't translate into a GSL win
ugh qualifers always don't go well brackets always seem to make the players we want kill each other while players like sorry and reality get easy brackets -_- #KespaCup. But overall this still should be good and im hoping to see Maru wreck some scrubs :D!!!!

hopefully they do one of those qualifiers where if you fail in the first one, you can attempt at again at the next one. but with 10 spots to fill, I highly doubt they'll do that.
I'm guessing they'll run the qualifiers this coming weekend since it's the only the weekend with no tournaments before blizzcon

Well it looks like it will be 16 players (3 GSL winners, soO as a runner-up, 10 qualified and 2 invites from the vote)

Weird, when I tried opening the page as a new tab or even new window on chrome, it automatically closes. Works fine on firefox. Apparently does that due to AdBlock. But voted for Flash either way.

I'm not a huge Flash fanboy. soO is the best player this year, Flash was one of the best players of August/September, TRUE was in ro8 last season and in a group with 2 other Zergs (ZvZ being his best MU), DRG is the only odd man out. If DRG is your odd man out, that's saying something. This wasn't Inno-Flash-Life-Parting, but I feel comfortable saying it was a scarier group than A or B.

Neither Dear nor Trap on the list T_T. Hope they are participating in the qualifiers.
I voted for Solar, because I love the guy and was shocked that so few voted for him. Also, Rain's lack of votes made me sad as well. So many great players that are missing out. Such is life in Korea.

Cute video, too bad Maru is way too shy to do anything like this. If you really go just based on top performance this year that's not already qualified I think it should be Maru and Rain, but hey it's a fan vote so makes sense fan favorites would be leading.
Funny thing is if they just had Stork in here (I'm kind of surprised they don't) he and Flash would have the vote locked up.

It was no group of death. FlaSh had is best MU TvZ at the time and he botched it. Or he was mercifull. Your pick. :p
Pretty amazing that Soulkey, who let's be honest hasn't achieved anything since 2013, has more votes than herO or Solar (or even Cure) who have had breakout years. SKT might, I guess.

So what's his plan for 2015 S1, then? If he's as shit as you say, better the Hot6 serve as a wake up call that he needs to do something different than missing out on a whole season of Code S.

Qualifying for things is tough, especially since most qualifiers are a bracket and not group stages. A lot relies on who you get matched up against, etc. Fun fact: two of the best SC2 players of all time, MMA and DongRaeGu, did not actually qualify for Code S through the usual Code A/U&D matches process. They were both in Code A several times but could not make it through. In the end they were seeded into Code S due to their high finishes at MLGs.
