Taeja announced a while ago that Blizzcon would be his last tournament until recently where he stated that will also be playing in HSC, DH Winter and IEM world championship. He has just confirmed on his twitch chat that he will now play in GSl, but he hasn't said if he will play for more than one season since IEM will be played at around March which is when Code S season 1 would start.
Taeja has also confirmed that he will not play in proleague.
Mod Edit: At HSC Taeja stated that he wished to enter military service however there were no positions for the first intake of the year. He will continue to play SC2 until he is able to do his military service.

GSL 2015, return of the Terrans.

Good news.

Are you kidding me :DDD It's time to see what TaeJa's really made of, boys

So this is what, his 5th time to falsely retire?

Well he said he'll be playing in IEM WC so maybe he's only playing one season.

Better than not having it and playing anyway.

YES ! :D Best news ever ! :D

Happy to hear it! Will be interesting to see how he does in a setting like the GSL.

GSL! GSL! GSL!
Maybe I'll get a GSL subscription.

While I am very happy that Taeja will continue playing SC2. His antics of retiring every year does get annoying...
Why can't he make up his mind?
|
Im really glad, but next time he announces retirement i will not believe XD Ha, i was almost rooting for him in blizzcon since it was supposed to be his last big tournament Even streaming right now ^^

We've newsed this thread, but please update the OP with relevant information (context, other relevant statements etc.). A single picture with nothing else attached is a very barebones thread that we normally don't like on TL.

Why can't he make up his mind? If his retirement/unretirement is linked to his wrists, then you can't really blame him tbh. He probably choses according to how his wrists are going

I think such operation take long time to recover from, hand is unusable and it keeps being painful for a few month. I don't think a sc2 pro can go through this and not retire.
I'm no specialist though.

I mean it's twitch chat, but yes him personally confirming would be great. Also I have to assume that Team Liquid got to have some insight of their own players whereabouts.

Nice! I was afraid that he was gonna retire at the end of the year.

Taeja is a huge troll. After losing to sOs, posts on Twitter
"Congratz sOs, I will retire soon, gg"
"My wrists are bad I will retire soon"
"After Blizzcon I will retire"
Asked him about military service for 2015 and he says:
"Early year no slots for military."
"My next tournament is HSC and DREAMHACK."
"Yes I will play GSL"
|
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TAEJA!!!

Yes.... A huge troll. Definitely not just a regular human that weighs their options, considers their strengths and weaknesses and updates their plans based on current realities.

Win in semifinals; be disqualified prior to losing in finals.

Taeja didn't have to lift that heavy-ass WCS trophy so his wrists are now perfectly fine.
Life might retire soon.
Come to think of it, that's an awesome way to level the playing field. Make the players lift a 100-lb trophy, so the best player in the world has to deal with broken writs next year and someone else can be in first place!
Also eventually every WCS Grand Final would be Incontrol vs. Slivko

Taeja was Code S material. GSL is such a different beast than foreign tournament you can't really predict how an awesome player in one will perform in the other type.

This truly is some great news. TaeJa not retiring, and playing in the GSL. :o
TaeJa is a hopeless case though, so he's probably going to talk about retiring for another year at least, haha.

I don't think he changed his mind i guess he will participate in more tournaments because he couldn't join in the army, someone will have to ask him to confirm if he will continue or he is just killing time earning money :[.
Anyway i hope he do well on Taeja Story Cup.

Well finalist and winners were there how it would be worse?

I would say I'm surprised, but I'm not. He pulls this retirement card every 6 months, probably just to see how many people post sad messages about him and give him support. Even if its his wrists going in and out, it's still pretty shitty to just drag your fans around like that, either make up your mind for good or just don't bring it up or he could say something vague like "yeah my wrists bother me a lot sometimes, but I'll let everyone know if it gets bad enough to where I'm quitting" and just leave it at that. But, I guess it's a good thing for the scene since he has a pretty big "foreigner" fanbase.

I'm more worried about Code B, which will be especially brutal if they plan to reset it(?). He has impressive numbers against some of the most recent S Ro16 players in HotS (the only negative score is vs. Flash), but on his turf and there's no TLPD record at all against 9/16 of them. I'd imagine it's going to take a few tries before he adjusts to the current Korean scene.

|
Another false retirement from Taeja big shocker enough of the antics just make up your mind kid its getting annoying and tiresome to watch you flip flop every year. Maybe he will get destroyed in Code S and that will finally be the end of it since all he victories are in events outside Korea I think he could be in for a surprise when he gets into a Korean scene tournament where every single player is top notch like in the GSL. This isn't Homestory cup or Dreamhack not gonna be playing Snute or ForGG in the finals that is for sure. That being said at the end of the day I just want to see the guy make up his mind once and for all.
|

People who care about drama are getting dramatic.
I just care about seeing good games, so I'll cheer for Taeja.

Great news.. finally he can prove himself through GSL
|
I guess TaeJa wants to go out with a bang.
|
|
Hopefully he plays as well in the GSL as he plays in foreign tournaments ^^ Good luck, Taeja!
|
I knew he wouldn't retire
|
|
That's good to know. I'm interested to see how good he is now in a 'slow' tourney like GSL.
|
Taeja doesn't want to leave SC2 without a big tournament win. A GSL win would finally solidify his status as the premier Terran post-Mvp.
|
Those of you hating on Taeja for backing on his words truly doesn't appreciate how difficult it is to be/stay a "progamer" or understand how great this news is for the SC2 scene (and TL).
I actually decided awhile ago to stop watching SC2 the moment Taeja stop playing. So this is great news for me as it will extend it a little further.

jesus christ, ppl getting dramatic over his "LIIIIIIIEEEEE" is ridicolous to watch

Some people consider Taeja's "i retire" into "not retire" annoying because it's happened so many times. I kind of agree, too - if you want to retire, retire, but don't keep making a deal out of it only to go back on what you said four times in a row. It feels silly.

Not by acting to be one's girl friend. Even though the Taeja Clap is tempting.
And I am/was happy. For the first through like 3rd time. Sometimes it just gets old. I assume his young age is to blame for that indecision or maybe actual changing circumstances. In any case, and so you might understand it too - announcing your definite retirement a couple of times and then not following through = not good PR/smart handling of the situation/not all that professionel.
GL Taeja. May fanboys always bend logic to the utmost extreme to make your case!

You can't say one is better than the other. They're _different_ beasts.
I'll play you game. No one said it was better. Yet, Zest (GSL champion, said to be "best in the world"), soO (4 time GSL finalist, said to be "best in the world" as well) lost in the first round, Innovation (won last GSL) lost in the second round, and Classic (won before last GSL) lost in the semis. So yeah, no one said it, but it's kind of strange, hmmm ?

I DONT KNOW and im sure as fuck none of you know either. stop acting like teaja slept with your girlfriend Some people consider Taeja's "i retire" into "not retire" annoying because it's happened so many times. I kind of agree, too - if you want to retire, retire, but don't keep making a deal out of it only to go back on what you said four times in a row. It feels silly.
Why is it annoying? Did you make any when-Taeja-retires plans? I don't really get how it affects you in any way. Just glad he will be playing a bit longer and I find the whole reitre/not retire thing charming. A fun little emotional rollercoster each time.

Everyone with a healthy mind knew that Taeja wasn't retiring after Blizzcon. He just likes to make drama over and over. Everytime he doesn't place 1st in a big tournament he rants about retiring. Putting the salt aside, im really looking forward to seeing him play in the GSL, i think he can definitely compete with the rest there, although he was better at 'on the run' tournaments like Dreamhack etc in the past.

I think you're confusing Taeja with Mvp

I think some people here really don't understand the variable nature of RSI. You have to remember it is a condition that can improve and deteriorate rapidly, and when its bad, it can be horribly painful. I've struggled with it for almost two and half years now, and for most of that time I've been on the edge of pulling out of my studies (I'm doing a degree in music), I wasn't trying to be dramatic during the times when I began to fill out un-enrolment forms, but they were times it seemed unlikely my condition would improve enough for me to continue. I imagine it is the same with Taeja, his wrists have apparently been okay recently, so he's continuing on, if they were still horribly bad, he would follow through with his choice to retire. He can't predict what state his RSI will be in the future, so it's no wonder his choices are constantly changing. I really hope people will be more understanding of his condition. As it is a horribly painful and debilitating one, and it's impressive that he has continued on this far with it.

As much as TaeJa appears to be kinda trollish in interviews/tournaments, I really don't think his numerous retirements/unretirements have anything to do with his trollish behavior. And people who are annoyed by TaeJa should probably think about that for a second

People don't realize, $100,000 is a shit load of money, that much money could easily have helped Taeja decide to retire. Taeja wasn't trolling, he just wants to go out winning a big prize pool; it's like Jordan wanting to retire after he just won a Championship. None of the greats want to be remembered for retiring after a big loss and put a blemish on their legacy. If he does go on to win a GSL code S championship, or any other tourney with a huge pay-out, $50K+, I could see him retiring after that.

Yeah looking at the lineups I think we'll have a TvT finals. Flash vs Taeja is likely with TY being a dark horse.

Maybe he likes to watch Terrans, and Terrans were getting wrecked in GSL for almost a whole year before Innovation's recent win.

I am guessing the problem with his wrists is arthritis and/or carpal tunnel. Which if that is case pain comes and goes randomly if it is still early. So It really depends on when the pain wants to show up and how long it wants to last, which that also depends on how much stress he is putting on his wrists.

Taeja is certainly better than TY and probably better than Flash too. Do you even Blizzcon?

There has been no more consitently dominating player in HotS then Taeja imo. Perhaps he sould stick it out until VotL and quite while he's on top.
MVP was the best player during WoL I think. Haven't seen him at all since HotS. These are the two first bonjowas of terran according to me.
