That doesn't make sense--you can participate in every qualifier so not participating in all of them only disadvantages you.

Now, if we start thinking rationally, where DO SC2 players go after retiring from SC2? That's right, they go to Heroes of the Storm.

He is trying to play in NA so he doesn't have to play against peers to qualify. If Axiom players somehow got a visa, he would probably be trying to represent LA. Such a fall for a legend. When there is no doubt you will qualify, it doesn't really matter when you decide to play, granted peers are gone.

Let's be honest here: Jaedong is not on his 2013 level anymore, but in an NA bracket he is still one of the favorites.

Look at the OP though; he's NOT (yet) participating in NA. My point is that if he was planning on trying out for WCS NA at all logically he would participate in every qualifier until he got in.
And yeah without StarDust there's only three Koreans in NA (Polt, viOLet, Hydra) so JD would get in easily.

With the amount of players retiring or taking breaks right now, this one wouldn't surprise me either.

I highly doubt jaedong would retire. If anything him taking a break from playing competitively would make the most sense out of any other active player since the man has been playing competitive SCBW and Sc2 non stop for basically the past decade. Also last year he traveled over 160,000 miles (from his twitter) so I'm sure even if he did take a break he would still be practicing and come back to dominate when he feels rested.

That says "this year" as in "in 2014." At the time, there weren't going to be any more tournaments in 2014 that Jaedong had a chance to qualify for so I don't think anyone read much into it. Also the reference to "holiday" to me at least had suggested that he'll be back in the new year.

Last I checked 2015 isn't over yet.

My point is WCS NA so far has been WCS KR. He didn't get a visa so he could play against hydra and polt. He got a visa so he could have a free spot. After this qualifier no other Koreans will be left, and the return of the has been will probably come then.
