Hello!
Over at Aligulac we're working hard as always adding new matches and trying to update the site with features you guys ask for. How much we are able to do is varying because we are human after all. We are always looking for more hands if you have the #passion.
Now that LotV is released both tournament organizers and players are gradually switching over, at least to a certain extent. We are discussing internally when to start adding LotV matches, and feedback from the community might help us make a better decision based off of a broader and better base.
Some of the issues we are discussing:
- The consistency between WoL beta, HotS beta and now LotV:
At Aligulac we have added almost everything we could find of matches from early WoL beta and early HotS beta. At the time, we needed to populate the database as much as possible. To retain the "pattern" we should add as much as possible from LotV beta aswell.
- The integrity of the stats/predictions:
Currently we are beeing used a lot more by the community than what we were during the WoL and Hots betas. This makes it a bit more difficult to start adding new matches when the game is in a volatile state, because the results may not represent the skill of the players. We would of course like our ratings and predictions to be as accurate as possible.
- LotV is released much earlier in the development phase than previous betas
At least according to Blizzard. This is of course something that is not easily measured, but the game undergoes changes frequently and the game is not currently well balanced (also discussable, but most people agree on this).
These are complex issues and not easily defined. Trying to factor the seriousness of a players efforts in a given match, LotV or not, is not something we want to do, or something we have done in the past (for beta or "live" matches).
I've considered adding a poll to this post, but I didn't (yet) because the answer is not black or whit, but more complex.
If you are a heavy user of our statistics (e.g. a caster), your opinions are especially valuable to us.
Edit: Filled in more information to clarify, thanks to 207aicila.

I don't think any overall ranking makes sense. Everything changes too fast. But having like "top 3 players of the week" would be nice. Just for fun. Although I don't know how many matches there are in a week. It might be too low number.

It is worth bearing in mind that when Hewo mentioned "The consistency between WoL beta, HotS beta and now LotV" he was referring to the fact that the Aligulac databse already contains about as many verified, relevant 1v1 matches as possible from both WoL beta (that's right, going as far back as February 2010) and HotS beta (from September 2012 onward). Periods that are potentially even more volatile, imbalanced or otherwise not ideal than the current LotV beta. And this has not proven detrimental so far...

Thanks for clarifying.

My personal opinion is that matches that are in a beta game should be kept out UNLESS they are from a really late stage in the beta and the professional scene has more or less already switched.

As we get later and later into the beta, I feel the LOTV statistics become more significant. We still talk about who was ruling the BL-Infestor era and who came out on top in the beta meta. So either include the stats, or have LOTV as it's own rating.
But it should definitively be tracked, as it will become increasingly relevant as people do more LOTV tournaments.

I believe that all beta result are meaningless and should not bother being tracked. Beta results for HoTS should also be discarded.
WoL beta is a bit different. Tourneys were played during its end phase with what was the final release of the game for all intents and purposes.

Just saw the results from the last LotV beta tournament being counted for the participants; registering them is nice, but I really don't think they should be included in the rankings of players.
|
I think it should be a time before it starts being kept, I mean the first month at least is what it takes to learn the game a little bit. Everything after that is great, I do think it should be kept seperate from the hots rankings until lotv is very close to release like just 2 months or something.
