After an absence of several years, “Gaming is coming home” when DreamHack Leipzig celebrates its premier on the Leipzig trade fair premises from 22 to 24 January 2016. The official German platform of Swedish DreamHack, the world’s largest eSports festival, is hosted by the Leipzig trade fair. Schenker technologies, a producer of high-end gaming computers from Leipzig, is its cooperation partner.
“Computer games have become a fixed part of our zeitgeist. This is proven impressively by the huge LAN parties and eSports tournaments where gamers from around the world show off their skills to an enthusiastic audience,” explains Markus Geisenberger, managing director of Leipziger Messe. “With DreamHack Leipzig, we establish a brand with international power in Germany. It will be an annual event and Germany’s largest LAN party as well as a Europe-wide competition in the eSports community.”
Leipziger Messe is supported by Schenker Technologies GmbH. The manufacturer of high-end gaming PCs and notebooks has already been active in the eSports area since 2009 and has established XMG, a brand specifically aligned with the needs of gamers. “Our cooperation with many teams and tournament events gives us a very good and direct connection to the community”, says Robert Schenker, managing director of Schenker Technologies. “Our experience and the competence of Leipziger Messe as organiser are ideal to cast our spell on gaming enthusiasts with DreamHack Leipzig as an annual highlight.”
Since the first event in November 1994, Swedish DreamHack has developed into the largest eSports festival in the world. There are now three events per year that between them draw tens of thousands of visitors and participants. The core pieces are the LAN parties with thousands of participants and eSports-tournaments that are broadcast on large screens for the audience. With DreamHacks among others in Tours (France), Valencia (Spain) and Bucharest (Romania), the event concept has already spread across Europe. DreamHack Leipzig is becoming a platform for the entire German-speaking area.
“Because of its huge and passionate esports community, Germany is one of the most important European markets for us and DreamHack as a festival”, says Marcus Lindmark, CEO of DreamHack AB. “As former venue for the European gaming industry, Leipzig is the perfect city for an event of this caliber. With the Leipziger Messe and Schenker Technologies we found first-class partners to realize DreamHack’s successful concept in Germany.”
The first DreamHack Leipzig from 22 to 24 January 2016 will have a LAN area that offers 1,000 gamers the opportunity to play with and against each other on site for 56 hours. Apart from this, there will be high-level tournaments for various games. Visitors can look forward to following exciting competitions and to visiting the DreamExpo exhibition, where companies present their innovations from the areas of hardware, software, games and accessories. The products can be purchased from the DreamStore. The event programme with analogue old-school games, cosplayers and appearances of stars from the eSports scene will make DreamHack Leipzig a spectacular experience for all participants and visitors.

We still don't know if StarCraft is going to have a tournament.
