Prime's current only coach, Gerrard, will now only work with the League team. (Sbenu Sonic Boom)
From the 4th's proleague game, Prime will be playing without him, and new head coach and other coaches will be recruited.
Shiycoms, whose representative director is Kim Min Ki, who used to be STX Soul and Soul's coach, has been supporting and supervising the team since August first.
Kim says, "We decided to support the team in order to promote team, and also because of my lingering feelings for e-sprots. Even though the current scale of support is not so much, we are considering even complete take-over depending on the future circumstances too. "
This is really fantastic news, particularly hearing they are even eyeing a takeover.
I love Korean starcraft in the current state, but I would love another top end KeSPA team like that to cultivate more talent. It does feel a bit boring at times that team's like Prime and Mvp are perrenial bottom dwellers, without realistic chance of real success.
Having a good coach like this or an organization like STX are certainly ones who could change that.
Oh my god. Think how wicked it would be if like, some of them turned out like Dream or something. Like, you're just a mediocre player on some mediocre team (like MVP), then you get a real coach, and holy shit you're a top 3 Terran.
Also from the sounds of it, it seems like people are interested in helping out the lower-tier team (Prime) so that the competition is a bit more leveled. I mean, SKT will obviously be Numero Uno for a while since like, they have the 5 best players in the world right now (Dream, Innovation, Dark, soO, Classic), but looking at Sbenu, Samsung, and MVP, all of them are performing pretty comparable. Shit, just look at JAGW at 0-6 right now. This was the team with a cost of $4 or $5, and over 400 people own on FPL. The MOST owned team right now is performing worse than Prime. (Note, they had the same two opponents).
Prime's problem is they only have 2 players worth a damn in Proleague at the moment. Even if both could pull together a win neither of them (Keen/Yoda) are reliable aces. So even IF they could go 2-2 in a match there's no way they could close it out. I don't think coaching staff will make a difference as long as the proleague team is just B4/Keen/Yoda/TANGTANG. Throw in Byun and whoever they can pick up for next year and maybe they climb out of last with great coaching, but I just don't see it right now.

But yay
Prime's coach's SC2 name is Gerrad (like Gerrard but no third 'r'). Maybe his real name is Gerald but given that he's Korean I kind of doubt it.
Fun fact: Gerrad actually made it to GSL Open Season 1 back in 2010 as a player but lost in the first round to none other than Tastosis' first SC2 mancrush Clide.
Coach can't hurt but Prime needs some decent players and not sure who else there is to get out there since SBENU and MVP grabbed up all the teamless old-time eSF players.
A new (good) coach is excellent news for them and I'm pretty sure Prime can't get worse than it's current form. Pretty sure Proleague would get much better w/ an actual 8th team rather than 7 plus a bonus.
Oh, does anyone know what the status of Byun is? I see him do well in Leifeng Cups all the time, but he's totally absent from anything of real signifiance... Him along with Keen and Yoda are decent players. I'd say all 3 of them have potential, and could be Code S regulars.
But right now, the team only consists of 5 players and Byun isn't even in PL. So it's a guaranteed 4 lineup, since Creator is gone now. I think they will need more than just coaching at this point. I'd love to see them pick up some higher-tier players and become a contender for at least 4th place in PL.

ByuN is all but officially no longer on Prime afaik. He doesn't live in the team house, he doesn't actively communicate with the rest of the team. He isn't on their Proleague roster. He's basically not on the team.
Considering most of the current good players have been snagged by sbenu and MVP, If I were the Coach/coaching staff I'd consider picking up some foreign players to try and mold into a winning team. Not only would that vitalize the team with new players, but would get some big support behind them. That would be awesome to see, but dont think its going to happen.... Would definitely take a lot of time as well. Teamliquid partnership!! haha

Sorry, I just knew his ID in Korean, so just guessed. I'll edit it.

That's too bad, he's been doing really well recently in weekly tournaments like OlimoLeague.

This has been a long time coming, the results just weren't coming in any more despite having most of the same players for several years. Given that the free agent pool is pretty limited I hope the STX coach can do what he can to raise a new generation of players to greatness, because I'm sure tired of seeing PRIME being the punching back of PL.
On August 04 2015 15:31 OtherWorld wrote: I'm pretty happy for Prime about this, but will a good coach really help with only 4 players, 4 of them being pretty weak?
Well, I think KeeN has a chance, he's been doing quite decent.
hmmm... Stardust could be a good pickup, but he probably doesn't want. But on the other hand his US-adventure was no success at all, so perhaps he'll come back home. Also Apocalypse could be an option. He isn't really good but he has quite some tournament experience and in a korean team house he could flourish. Plus Byun and some time Prime could become a mediocre team
They need to change prime roster completly.. because the current members have proven for years they are not good enough for proleague or to represent any team , they need to recruit people that can actually win games in proleague ,because currently its just a waste of time for everyone audience and players, nobody wins its sad
We all know that ByuN is really good, but I'm not certain how realistic it is to get him to actually play. KeeN has potential to be decent, and we all know Yoda can be great player, but has been struggeling recently (maybe a new coach can do something about this?). BBoongBBoong is sadly not good enough and I don't really see any potential either. TANGTANG might have the potential to be a good player, but I simply know too little about him, but atleast he is young.
I hope they are able to pick up a couple of great zerg and protoss players and I cross my fingers that the new coach can bring the best out of the Prime terrans.

This.
I doubt that only changing the coach will affect their play in PL. They need a whole new team.
I really hope that Prime is going to get some additional players as well, because the roster is kind of slim atm. ^^ Going to be hyped for every upcoming Prime match!

there will always be egtl
EGTL didn't roll over and die, Prime is just pathetic this year
EGTL did roll over and die with the most fearsome teamleague player at the time that is Taeja in addition to their star strudded lineup of HerO (recently won 2DH, 1IEM), Stephano (WCS and Korean slaying), JD and more. Even coach Park couldn't salvage the humiliation.
Prime is pathetic because they lost their best players (Maru to Jinair, rest to Choya) repeatedly without finding any financial back up in meantime. Chinese mercenaries can't play and Creator finally gave up trying to be a one man team. In the end you have a coach that doesn't give a crap and four players that absolutely have to play, which also gives them tremendous amounts of predictability and loss of momentum/motivation on a loss.
I really want Prime to do well. While not exactly good at winning, they are one of the few EsF teams left alongside MVP and Startale/Sbenu. Also, Byun is actually sickening in the Online tournament scene. So good. So hopefully an actually competent coach plus Byun equals a comeback.
Man, while this news is great, I really have to say I dislike Gerrard or however you spell is english ID name. Today, he didn't even come to proleague with the players; there were just the 4 players standling oddly with each other against Jin air who had both coaches there. Like, I know he's moved to focus of LOL, but this is absurd, he should at least stay with the team until they actually find a replacement for him. For me, it just looks like the man has no sense of responsibility; he just jumps ship without a shit in the world.
I for one am glad they got rid of Gerrard. He was nothing like the coach Prime needed. He would play Hearthstone and stream when he should have been preparing for proleague, he didn't make the players any better, he didn't do anything that left concrete results. Sure, he must have done a bunch of negotiating with sponsors behind the curtains, but he sucked at leaving anything that mattered.
I think I'm rambling too much salty hate. To summon it all up, the man was a terrible coach. Im quite sure not many of us will be sorry to see him leave. Maybe he makes Sbenu Sonic Boom a better team, I don't know.
I spent almost 4 months with the prime guys, and lived in their house. I avoided (mostly) talking bad about the team because I still had/have friends in the team (bboongbboong I still hear from from time to time)but since Gerrard is no longer part of prime, I can state how i really feel. plus last time I wrote something critical of prime, I had Gerrard's sister harassing me on skype asking me to take it down, which i refused.
The only problem with prime was Gerrard. He was the single reason the team continued to fail. Gerrard is mostly just greedy. When I stayed at the house, it was during primes best months. That was because they had a manager (moon something, I wish i remembered his entire name) and he mentored the players and was in general a friend and a coach (even though he was never great at starcraft). but he was always there and the players saw him often. Gerrard lived in the prime house, but honestly I rarely saw him outside of meal times. That manager I think was the reason prime did so well in those months. Gerrard eventually got rid of him, and guess what? prime hasn't had as good days as those since.
Gerrard wasn't a coach, prime didn't have a proper coach. He cared more for the business of making money off the players than he did for the players. He would force players to stream so that they could make money, and try to pawn off their gear and such on stream so they could make more money. I felt bad that the players were being treated like old BW b-teamers than actual star players, which all of them could have been. I'm not saying Gerrard was a bad guy, he just is a awful manager and not even a coach.
Prime was successful despite Gerrard. now that Gerrard is gone, I honestly think that prime will start doing way better.

basically everyone who was ever in prime that had good moments was because they worked their butts off. Creator was one of the absolute hardest working players I have ever seen, same goes for Maru. they were successful because they worked hard as hell. I remember timers were they would practice for 14-16 hours straight with no breaks. I don't think I ever saw maru or creator do anything other than eat or play starcraft.
they succeeded despite Gerrard. And that's why after so many of their contracts finished, they left prime, because they knew how much of a black hole of players it was.
Gerrard never set (to my knowledge) a proper training schedule. so it was up to each player to find matches and to practice however long they saw fit. again this could have changed in the past while, but i doubt it if Gerrard was still involved. it was a very much dog eat dog environment in the house.

Thanks for saying this. (Although Gerrard is still the owner, but now managing the Prime LoL team, Sbenu Sonicboom)
I hope the coming of the new coach is a way to greener pastures
