Blizzard has often held its secret close, but it's ready to share one of them. Starcraft II's final chapter will unfurl this year.
Speaking on Activision Blizzard's second quarter earnings call, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime confirmed that Legacy of the Void has a more definitive release window. The final third of the story will be released in 2015.
The last Starcraft II chapter is currently in closed beta (accessible via pre-order). In addition to a single-player campaign focused on the Protoss, there are new modes for casual and competitive play.
For more on Legacy of the Void, check out our most recent preview.
Our Take Adding Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void to this year's financial profile sets up Activision even better for an already strong year. The only question this leaves is, "What's next for the Starcraft universe?

wut? 2015... ok?!? long beta???
|
Probably the game will be released with multi players still in beta.
|
That image needs antialiasing lol
So much for a long beta... It is your last chance, Blizzard. Tons of changes need to be made for LotV 1v1 multiplayer to be worthwhile upon release.

This was always going to be a 2015 release lol. Beta from blizzard last like 6 months and releases it.

I always assumed they'd release LotV right after the WCS global finals in November. Guess I could be right

How reputable is the source of this article?

snide sarcastic after-the-fact stuff only works when u have your facts straight. so far, you don't
WoL Beta was not 6 months. HotS Beta was slightly less than 6 months.
LotV Beta began March 31. so its already 4+ months into the beta and it'll be at least 15% longer than the WoL and HotS betas because there is no way LotV is coming out before Blizzcon.
So Blizzard pretty much stuck to its word that this LotV beta will be longer.
if it went according to your comment then LotV would be out September 30th/October 1. that ain't happenin'

I really enjoy sc2 but what do you think will happen in the next five to ten years??? I mean regaurding starcraft 3. Im sure there wont be a huge gap like there was from brood war to wol. I dont want the series to die because they dont make another starcraft after five years after lotv is released. I think a good four years is plenty until sc3. But how do you think the game will play out for sc3?? I hope this is just the end for sc2 and not the end in starcraft in general.

Go look it up, it was obvious a 2015 release date for LOTV if you thought otherwise you don't know blizzard. Also for the fact of WCS makes it even more obvious. Gamescon will give us the release date im pretty sure.

I really hope they will do big changes even after release, gogo skins!!! (i guess?)

WoL beta was February 17 to June 7, 2010. Then July 7 to July 19
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft_II:_Wings_of_Liberty#cite_note-52
that is not any where close to 6 months...and in fact Blizzard promised a 3 to 5 month beta... they delivered in that range.
i have vivid memories of Jonesing for SC2 on June 8th and July 20th... as i'm sure many on this board do.
LotV beta will be substantially longer than teh previous SC2 beta tests... they are delivering on their promises.. and relative to other beta tests on certain other RTS games i won't mention.. they are doing a great job on the LotV beta... so all and all i'm a satisfied consumer.

Like saying the beta of WoW vanila is the basis on WoW expansion dates which is wrong. WoW expansions have had betas for 6months & 3 months for TBC. Last 3 expansions have been 6 months.
The StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm beta test began September 4, 2012.[1] The release date was announced: March 12, 2013.[2] The beta came to an end on March 1st, 2013 6months...

Umm that is less than 6 months.
and, the LotV beta will be more than that.
the only way it won't be longer is if they release they game before Blizzcon and with the beta beginning March 31 it'd have to come out October 1 to fit this 6 month thing you are talking about.

Something else which is pretty huge, even though not SCII related; The current expansion of WOW, Warlords of Draenor has lost half of its subscriber base, it has gone down from 10 million at launch (December 2014) to now 5.6 million as of June 2015.

Ok its 5 months and 28 days? xD

and the game is not coming out on October 1.. so ur 6 month thing is off ..both with WoL's beta and LotV's beta. WoL beta was like 4 months and 1 week.
LotV beta involves deeper changes than HotS had in it. So its getting a longer beta.
so laughing at people in your original comment for "missing the obvious" was unnecessary because its not always a 6 month beta...
and so the announcement made today at the ATVI Investor Call is newsworthy.... and thanks from me to the thread creator for putting it together.
