Our resident SCII writer Stephen "stuchiu" Chiu was recently interviewed by Thooorin for goldper10.com. In their chat, they talk about the game's history and some of its most special players.
Check out their interview for great statements like this one...
MKP on the other hand had some obvious problems. One of the most mechanically gifted players, but also one of the most stupid.
... and get some insight into stuchiu's mind. It's a read well worth your time!

Good to see that Stuchiu sticks with his convictions. :D

Wow, my two favourite esports "thinkers", or how to put it
|
boo, they could have corrected stuchiu's typos :[
good read

The problem with him was that he was getting figured out by Koreans (most notably Symbol learned he only did 2 builds in TvZ -CC first and 11/11, both get beaten by a 7 roach rush) Marry me stuchiu

Great interview and great read, I only disagree with Rain being under-appreciated. No one has ever underrated Rain. He's a beast and is also treated as such by fans and players alike.
You only got this response because Parting is a fan-favourite, stuchiu.

You only got this response because Parting is a fan-favourite, stuchiu. I'm pretty sure that Rain was picked out by iloveoov back a long time ago to become a force to be reckoned with in the years to come back when iloveoov gave his retirement interview of sorts.

I loved how he simply called MKP stupid. Surprised he didn't mention Flash as one of the most stubborn players; annoyed how people were saying that Life was better than soO in 2014. I liked the random Has praise at the end but not liked there's not a single mention of Zest in the whole interview (tho I understand why he doesn't catch stuchiu's eye).
So super nice read, great questions and great answers. I sometimes don't agree with stuchiu in his assessments but I enjoy so much his writing!

didn't expect it, gonna read it

Apparently a big-time fanboy of TaeJa!

Good read, i like the very candid style

I don't agree with everything stuchiu said, especially the Rain and Stephano parts but besides that it's a great interview. stuchiu knows a ton about SC2 and reading his articles is always a treat. =)

Great words from the great man. I especially loved his explanation for mechanics being overrated.
|
I'm surprised about stuchiu's opinion about Stephano and BL/infestor. I always thought that the prominence of BL/infestor harmed him as he had to play more ZvZs than before.
|
"Has is the most ridiculous player to have ever been born" Stu in his last words of the interview.
|
Great words from probably the best SC2 writer around
|
stuchiu is always a treat to read either in an article or an interview.

goldper10 ? 10 ? what is this meta ?

Nice, this will be interesting :D

Nice interview Stuchiu.

Hopefully Titan meet Envyus this weekend [in CS:GO - editor's note] and prove that anger, spite and vengeance are the greatest motivators of all.
Heh, would have been fun to watch that (but it'd been a stomp, EnVy would have mopped the floor with them).

OMG some of the comments here. ---------------------------------------------- Parting underperforming
.......In 2011 (MVP) was one of the least popular players despite winning so much......
Stephano good only because of broodlord infestor...
Thorzain the most underrated foreigner....
Soo was considered not very good in korea...
2012 best matchup tvt.....

I'm not sure any of those could ever be construed as absurd (perhaps with the exception of Thorzain being underrated). How do you feel about them?

That MKP quote. Sadly, I can't say he's wrong .

Great interview. Agreed on most points, especially: 1. Rain > Parting 2. soO > Life (2014) 3. Soulkey's superb defensive skills 4. Life and Maru don't really bring anything new to the table - they just execute their hyper-aggressive styles effectively like no other 5. Speedvacs killed a lot of dynamism in TvT and TvZ (and arguably, I would add, TvP as well)
Stuchiu has less good things to say about Protoss (except about Rain) - maybe he's just more familiar with Terran and Zerg playstyles. I was hoping to hear more about what he thinks about the Protoss resurgence for the last two years, and top players such as Zest, Classic and herO.

What.........Stephano is a really good player despite BL / infestor...his decision making is phenomenal.

But even without bl/infestor, Stephano proved he was strong in muta ling/bling play and roach/hydra play. He had arguably the best decision making of any foreigner and the best mindset for a competitor.

Oh thats easy. Zest is a Genius in PvP and proved it since he dominated in PvP in an year with Parting, Rain, sOs, Classic and herO at or close to the top of their games.
I'd say he has fairly high mechanics, but his real skill comes from his decision making, positional games and refinement of his builds.
Classic is probably the most diverse Protoss in the sense that he can and has played nearly every style in every matchup. He seems to play better against people he's had history with (either through multiple rematches or on his team). Because he uses so many styles and is very good in most aspects of the ame, in many ways he is very close to the ideal standard Protoss. He cant always out think you like Zest or out-micro you like Parting, but he has the largest toolkit to choose from among the top tier Protoss players.
herO is the most one-dimensional of Protoss players. He mostly tries to stick to one build/style per matchup (with the exception being PvP because it's PvP). But because of that he has bad tendencies that have been exploited multiple times by both Protoss (2 gate) and Zerg players (early random slow ling attacks). He doesn't seem to pick up on new changes in the meta as fast as his peers and his series planning is generally terrible. The upsides though is that his micro is some of the best around (though too aggressive compared to say Parting) and if he gets to play his game he can beat most players.

Don't you mean herO can beat all players if he gets to play his game?

Wow thanks for the quick answer!
Yes, again I agree with your points. Zest is rather solid all round, Classic is really creative (second only to sOs) and herO has a indistinguishable and unremarkable playstyle (yet always gets more love than so-called boring Rain - probably due to his kpop looks).
