I think most people should already know what this is, but for the newcomers here is a summary:
Back in may i decided that it would be a cool idea if we as a community make our own Power Rankings (especially because TL kinda stopped with it ) For that reason i want you guys to post your own power rankings in this thread, i will add everything up and post the end result in this thread.
What is special about this one?
Blizzcon is starting soon and after today we know all of the 16 competing players (i won't spoil the result in the op, but if you wanna watch todays match before doing your own PR, you probably shouldn't look at the lists posted here ). So i thought it would be interesting to do a special edition this time. Only players who participate at Blizzcon are allowed, from place 1 to place 16. Any list which contains a player who isn't part of Blizzcon or has less than 16 total players won't be counted towards the end result. You can see the list of players here: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2015_WCS_Global_Finals
So how would it work?
It's pretty simple, just post your top 16 in this thread. I will go through every post and add the points up. The point distribution will be like that:
1. place = 16 points 2. place = 15 points 3. place = 14 points etc.
How much time do i have to post the list?
You will have three weeks, which means i will count every list which is posted till October 27
Feel free to discuss your rankings in this thread, if you have extra passion you also can write a short text for your favorite player and post it in here as well (it would be used for the final standings)
I genuinely think Polt is weaker than Lilbow right now. Polt has like a 30% winrate this year vs Koreans (and mostly foreign ones), whereas Lilbow has around 50%. Polt is also playing a lot LotV while Lilbow has probably played very little and is going (or has gone?) to Korea.
Ranked based upon I feel how they strong are currently, with the exception of Polt. He should probably be lower but if he comes prepared he is usually pretty good at finding ways to beat better opponents and he is generally pretty good against protoss which fits in well with his bracket, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he ended up in the round of 4.
Life is obviously a big dark horse here, is he gonna play like the last few months or is he gonna show up for real?
Other than that all protoss players (except for Lilbow) is pretty similar in strength on a good day and all have the mind of a champion so it will probably be a protoss player winning it all with how many there are here.
As much as a I love Polt, I don't think he has that good of a shot going into this. However sometimes he turns it up hard when he needs to. Also hard not to put FanTaSy as #1 because <3 <3 <3. But I held back my inner fanboy and placed them purely as I thought they'll perform.
Ordering not about the overall power rank of each, but more with their current momentum and streak (and a bit too much of heart too). (Though, I would not be so surprised if Life were to underestimated an over-motivated Lilbow too much and get eliminated in the first round... Remember the close call against Naniwa with manner hatch!)
hmm...well I'll base it primarily on form over the last few months which is how TL tends to do it. Though I have a feeling someone like Life is going to go god-mode at Blizzcon:
I'd rate the whole "Zest/Classic/herO" group as super close. I wish I could tie them all ^^ Life's current level is hard to evaluate as well, but Life is known to have time periods where he practices less and his results drop. And when he practices 110%, he goes God Mode. I suppose (and hope) that he practices hard for Blizzcon, so I put him above the 3 protoss group. Another really close group of players are "Lilbow/FanTa/Hydra/Polt". They're the obvious lesser players at Blizzcon. But since I had to rank them (and I'm French), decisions were made ^^ Parting had a period of time where he played terrible but I believe he's training hard to regain his skill for Blizzcon, so I put him higher than what I initially thought. I haven't seen much of Rain/Dream/Rogue lately, so I kinda used them as fillers...
Edit: So that was a power rank, now for the blizzcon predictions ! - Life will either go God Mode and make it to the finals or will be upset by Lilbow in ro16. - INnoVation will not win. He's good enough, but too bland. He doesn't have the spark of magic required. I'd say a ro8 exit for him. I don't see Rain going far for the same reasons (ro16 or ro8 exit, I don't know who he plays in ro16). - sOs is looking super hot and 100k$ are on the line. Top4 for him at least, probably even top2. - I don't see it happening, but it would be an incredible redemption story if Byul could win. He got the skill , but I think he's gonna get eliminated in the ro8 (maybe even a ro16 loss depending on if he managed to go past the "second place again"-trauma or not). - If we get to see TvZ's, bio will be played more than mech. - Rogue will try something incredibly risky and stupid at least once. It'll work. - Maru won't get ro4 due to his injuries preventing him from practicing/playing correctly.
1. sOs 2. Classic 3. Maru 4. INnoVation 5. Dream 6. Life 7. herO[jOin] 8. Rain 9. Zest 10. PartinG 11. Polt 12. ByuL 13. Rogue 14. Lilbow 15. Hydra 16. FanTaSy The way I did this was make my prediction bracket and rank them based on that so thats why they are what they are, if you want section them off as 1-2, 3-4, 5-8, and 9-16 to help better understand the ranking particulars
16.) Lilbow (lol wcs) 15.) Polt (lol wcs) 14.) Hydra (lol wcs) 13.) FanTaSy (dat series vs hyun and performace at dh) 12.) PartinG (on fire recently ) 11.) Dream (got nothing funny to say) 10.) Life (where the hell is he???) 09.) Rain (has potential to deliver) 08.) Rogue (bane drops nuff said) 07.) Zest (always a contender) 06.) Maru (always beats zest) 05.) ByuL (last years soo) 04.) Classic (ready to outperform and ruin your day) 03.) INnoVation (current gsl champ) 02.) herO (probably best player of 2015) 01.) sOs (100 000$ man)
I don't get why so many people put herO so far up. I don't mean to bash him or whatever, he is a great player for sure, but so many people put him in their top2/top3...
I haven't really followed him recently, how well has he done in the last season of SSL/GSL and in PL ?

He's had an excellent 2015 to be sure. GSL results were top four, top twelve, top twelve. His S2SL results were top twelve, top four, champion(!). Top it off with the fact that he's top five wins in PL this season with 25 and I can see why people put him in their top three. He's my dark horse pick to win Blizzcon even though I don't like him that much lmao
Forgot to mention he also won Kespa Cup earlier this year
Wow, everyone is rating Polt so low? I think he's one of the players who has a pretty good chance to win this honestly, he's the player closest to MVP on the 'he may not be playing at the same level but he's pulling out wins anyway' spectrum. Of course, I suppose I wouldn't be particularly surprised to see him fall out early either...
Inno / ByuL / herO are the three big name 'favorites' but I honestly don't see any of them winning, then sOs / Maru / Zest / Classic / PartinG / Polt / Rain / Life are all championship contenders who don't have huge expectations on their shoulders atm so I could see any of them having an unexpectedly deep run / winning, then I'd be really surprised to see any of Hydra / Dream / Lilbow / Fantasy / Rogue win.

Polt isn't pulling out wins though. He looks pretty weak whenever he plays and he doesn't seem capable of beating even Hydra right now.
Also, why is everyone rating Fantasy so low? He hasn't looked bad at all, and has had streaks of very good results against players that most people are placing in the top 10. I suppose recently his form has dipped some, and his mech vs Z isn't very good, but he's still a very formidable player. I would rate him evenly against any of the protosses. He seems very capable of beating herO and i think he would have a pretty decent shot against Classic in the next round (less so against Byul.) I think people underestimate him.

I think it's just a PR that shows who is the strongest overall, not a ranking that shows who has the highest chance of winning by taking the bracket and matchups into consideration.
OP if you wouldn't mind would you please edit your original post to include a more detailed instruction on what to do. A lot of these are "who I think will win" not who is most powerful. If you take recent form into account, so many of these lists shouldn't have Hydra and Lilbow at the bottom. Koreans have been afraid to play Hydra in qualifiers for months. We hear stories about people complaining that Hydra is qualifying through KR qualifiers because he's so strong. I think that the Instructions aren't clear, and you can get a more accurate ranking if you do clear it up.
That being said, Here's my list with some commentary, I'M going in Reverse order because that's fancy.
16. FanTaSy - He's had middling performance all year long, no big wins, no big upsets. Of the 16 in the group, I think he's the weakest.
15. Zest - 5 appearances all year means he's got a few DBZ episodes worth of yelling to do before he can match others in the Top 16.
14. Rain - He's been relatively off the radar for a few months. Not a big threat. Not a powerhouse.
13. Dream - A Stellar beginning to his year Has led to him petering out towards the end, I think the Dream may be coming to an end at Blizzcon.
12. Life - Life hasn't found his Way since Season 1 this year Which is honestly coming off of his global finals win last year.
11. PartinG - Some middle-high results this year, with DreamHack Tours winner and GSL Season 1 runner up, but he's been performing well below what's expected of him, he's on a downturn.
10. Polt - As much as I love Captain America he's just been really unimpressive this year, playing below what everyone expects of him, even saying so himself. I hope he can pull it out, because I'm a huge Fan.
9. Classic - Oh Chin-Toss, I don't even know what to say about you. I'm sure he'll do fine,
8. Lilbow - Many may scoff but he's been fighting Against the Odds all year long, and with people like Stephano, the entirety of France, and the Baguette Protoss style behind him he's pretty scary, at least scary enough to make it to the mid point of the list.
7. Rogue - He's displayed some scary stuff during Pro League this year even though his individual results don't strike fear into anyone really. But he's a thinker, and with time and practice he's skilled enough to give almost anyone pause before doing battle.
6. Hydra - Koreans are scared to face off against this guy in qualifiers for major tournaments. Enough said.
5. herO - His performance in Pro League Has been fantastic and coming off of an emotionally charged win at the SSL Season 3 finals makes even the mightiest quake in their boots.
4. sOs - The only reason he's scarier than herO right now is because of his all-kills during the playoffs of Pro League.
3. Maru - If only his wrists weren't problematic, he'd be topping this list. I have no idea How he does it. He's like Frieza or something, almost always at his best, but still able to push it farther. I just wonder if we've seen his final form or not.
2. ByuL - Forever second ByuL. His play is fantastic and getting 2nd place in almost every Korean league this year is downright frightening. I think that he may end up psyching himself out in the end, Which is why I've ranked him 2nd most powerful, because he just can't win, so everyone is afraid of him except for...
1. INnoVation - If you leave him Alone, he'll crush you. If you Try to disrupt him but don't get the killing blow the First time, he'll come from behind and crush you. He's a Machine. A Terminator, of sorts. They don't have emotions, they don't fear. As much as I want other players to win, I think that right now this guy Has the biggest target sign on his back. Once (or if) he's eliminated everyone will breathe a huge sigh of relief. Until then, everyone is playing to beat INnoVation.

That's not the point of this thread. Power ranking isn't the same as placement ranking. They are different.

Well you have to consider that this is by far the strongest ro16 for the Global Finals we've had to date even with Lilbow in it. Almost everyone here qualified from playing in the hardest region.
Also, I think most are putting emphasis on recent form where Polt is really coming up short against Koreans this year:
I do agree that Polt is still capable of bringing some top-tier play though. Still...even at his best his TvZ tends to usually be on the weak side. I don't think he can win a single game against any of the Zergs except Hydra and the Terrans should all be favored against him. Maybe he can beat Dream if he relapses to his old poor TvT state. He'll have to play one of those MU in the semis if he hopes to win.
At least his TvP at full power is capable of beating any Protoss here and I really hope we get to see it as Polt is one of very few Terrans who can make that MU fun.
INnoVation has been the best player of the last months, possibly the best player of HotS overall. Maru probably faces his biggest challenge in the first round and may very well fall to his weak TvZ. But in the next round he would have a weaker opponent and then a Protoss, two things he should manage. Due to the bracket and his TvP power I place him second. herO won SSL. And has been a powerhouse of aggressive Protoss macro play, the kind of thing you need when you want to make it far in such a tournament. He also opens up with a weak opponent. Classic has fallen off a little bit lately, but is still a championship quality player. But he faces ByuL first, who might be the second best player in the world. ByuL might be the second best player in the world at the moment. But he doesn't win tournaments, plain and simple. Rogue is one of my favorite players with flawless macro play, probably one of the hardest opponents to take a game of. But someone is going to cheese him out I'm sure. If Zest somehow beats INnoVation he has a big chance to ride the whole thing home on his excellent PvP. But that depends a lot on how the bracket dice rolls for him. Wacky sOs is going to be wacky to predict. So I place him in the middle, like the mean value of his luckbased playstyle. Rain won a GSL. Still don't know how, given how mediocre he sometimes looks these days. But he absolutely has the championship-gen. Sadly Dream fell off towards the end of the year. He is still a good player, but I doubt he has what it takes to win that thing. This guy winning is a pure fantasy. Not gonna happen. But can take a game of anybody. Lilbow, the foreign hope. He is not going to survive in the sharktank of Tier1 Koreans blocking each and every of his strategies, but he is just brave enough to take on the one or other opponent and crazy enough to beat slumping Life. Life. And Blizzcon. Everything can happen. I wish. I really do. PartinG has looked aweful lately. But maybe he has gotten better again. To be honest, I'm not sure Hydra would make it into just one of the two Korean Premier Tournaments at the moment. But I wish him all the best, because I really like him. Polt, Captain America. But the Liberator hasn't been invented yet.
Personally wouldn't put Lilbow in top10, but people putting him dead last just because he's a foreigner reminds me of those guys who favor random no-name Korean toss vs Stephano during his prime.

To be fair, nearly every korean here is world-class.

Every Korean here IS world class. They made it to Blizzcon!
The top 10 players all seem like total contenders for 1st place. The bottom 6 are pretty debatable, and I'd be surprised to see any more than one of them in the Ro4. Innovation is obviously the most dominant right now. It gets pretty cloudy between 2nd and 6th though. sOs has looked really good lately, wrecking (almost) everyone in Proleague playoffs. So I'd put him as second, but he is sOs. Which means that he either looks really smart, or pretty derpy. Maru looked good minus a few matches and Byul had been pretty consistent up until real recently. Zest also has been looking very solid in the past few months. The rest of the players I have a real hard time placing where they are in terms of skill. I'm often impressed with Rogue, but he still loses to players like Maru and herO. Then there's Dream, who looked good in his latest PL match, but hasn't looked great other than that.
I think Innovation will reach the semi-finals at least.
12. Fantasy 13. Parting 14. Lilbow 15. Hydra 16. Polt
Maybe Byul is too high? Maybe he should be below sOs and Zest? Maru maybe deserves as high as... like 4ish, but his dips always seem to last a while, and his recent form isn't as high. Classic is just solid, but, in a way, weirdly volatile. He could totally make the finals, or possibly lose early on, but I'd expect the sets to be close. I'd predict round of 4 again, but wouldn't be surprised wherever he ended up.
This tier isn't particularly ordered. Rain won a starleague, Life's in a slump but could still win blizzcon, and Dream's solid and looks okay after proleague.
Parting's form doesn't look that good, but he might be ahead of Fantasy. I dunno how Lilbow or Hydra should be ordered, but I think Lilbow has a better chance of winning his game vs Life I think, but idk. Polt hasn't done well vs Koreans, playing LotV, etc.
Innovation, herO, sOs are favorites I think. Life could surprise and win, and I think Dream and Rogue otherwise have the best "dark horse" chances.
I'd rate the whole "Zest/Classic/herO" group as super close. I wish I could tie them all ^^ Life's current level is hard to evaluate as well, but Life is known to have time periods where he practices less and his results drop. Hmm, you're right. Would be interesting to calculate how meany "reasonable" lists there could be.
This is my list on who's most likely to win it all rather than who's likely to make a deep run.
The top5 players are pretty self-explanatory. They have a proven track record of winning it all when it matters, under a variety of different conditions.
6-10 are mostly players who have done well in weekend tournament format (which Blizzcon is).
Maru is last because....in 5 years he simply has never done well in foreign tourneys involving more than 1-2hour time difference (Taipei). Doubt it will change now.
The community power ranking looks similar to mine's.
Heh... It's kind of out of touch with the original meaning of the term to call Byul an Elephant and Rain not an Elephant. For me Rain will always be THE Elephant. He was pretty much exactly the sort of player the Elephant in the Room article predicted, right from the get-go.

And ByuL was a BW pro so he is an elephant even though he transitioned with Fnatic.
Seems like a good ranking, maybe Life could be a bit higher after KungFu Cup, on the other hand online cups don't mean that much and many strategies were kept hidden.
Thanks again for doing this TRV, great initiative .
PartinG and Life are to low imo. Maybe they aren't to hot at the moment but they are just championship caliber player, even in the worst slump I wouldn't be surprised if they win the hardest tournament in the world out of nowhere. Rogue on the other hand doesn't look like a player who can win tournaments...

ByuL was a traitor but now he is not. He rejoined Kespa.
Rain can regain his Elephant status once he rejoins a Kespa team. ie: Innovation, Dear, etc.

Sure, but a power ranking is about general strength atm, not about the potential we have seen in the past. Parting especially didn't look good in the last few months against korean competition. Rogue on the other hand was in every single quarter finals this year... (except ssl2)
TBH a very decent list, in terms of who is strong atm it feels about right. Maru is a bit of a question mark for me, also I feel like Life may surprise some people
Like, again, Parting and Life, grand finals of any world class event. I'm not taking away anything from the rest, but that's Blizzcon about, to show up on the biggest stage.
So, will see.
Personally, rooting for Parting and Zest. I like herO too, but he has already too big of a hype train.
Ok guys, i really wanna do another one of these fairly soon. I think after tomorrow's code a matches we could try to do another one of these lists (yes this one will probably be a hard one, which makes it even more fun!) Do you think we should wait a little longer? Any opinions?
