So all those with performance issues (FPS drops, CPU/RAM usage, lag spikes, crashes, etc.), check this out. I think we may have found out what's causing it and how to fix it: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/3nwrxz/fyi_32bitsc2exe_mode_is_far_faster_than_64bitsc2/ http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/19136205030 http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/19137005025
So switching from the new 64-bit client to the 32-bit one might solve the issue, but there is also the option of setting the priority of the SC2 application to a higher level. It would seem that the new 64-bit client is run by default instead of the 32-bit one and that there may be optimization issues between the new client and more recent versions of Windows (8, 8.1 and 10). I could be wrong, but it's worth a try, because it seems that many have mentioned no longer seeing issues, or at least, seeing improvements after running the 32-bit game client instead.

I switched to 32 bit 2 days ago and the lag seemed alot better. Today on NA server the lag is absolutely unreal. Near unplayable. Anyone else getting crazy lag right now in game?
|
the lag is unplayabble on 3v3 4v4 after 15min of gameplay
|
The lag is really bad, I got a very strong machine and i could play 4v4 on ultra always without any frame drops. But now it is almost unplayable even being on lowest in game settings. This is ridiciolous.

Same issues here, and yesterday I was dropping randomly from 1v1 games (internet was perfect, machine was fine) just dropping all the sudden without any notice.
|
I hope we get more feedback from the community on this. Does anybody else have such problems?

I hope so too, I do not have the fps drops, etc but I was getting randomly dropped from games yesterday until I decided to just not ladder anymore and lose more points. Hope they fix this issue, and I wonder if anyone else was having this problem.

I see ppl from time to time drop out of bigger team games. Currently I want to go for Masters in team games, but its nearly impossible to skillfully win the game. Its all about the luck who gets the better moment when the game lags. It is horrible. I stopped playing for some days and tried to pick it up today again, but its really absolutely no fun.
Are there ppl who dont have any problems at all?

Nope, every CPU in the world will get lower framerates with more units and always has
Ultra or Low doesn't really matter - low is extremely extremely extremely extremely graphically light and ultra is only extremely graphically light. 90% of the settings won't change FPS at all because you're limited by CPU singlethreaded performance and the GPU is idle 95% of the time in fights or lategame 2v2+ if you have any decent GPU
64 bit did perform substantially worse for me on LOTV beta than 32 bit but anyone who says that they always had great performance was simply not very good at monitoring or being aware of their game performance. I heard that so much over the last 6 years

thanks for the insight.
since the patch my 8 GB, 64-Bit, Windows 8.0 with really good i7 CPU and mediocre GPUhas been performing great. i guess i'm one of the lucky ones.. things improved for me after 3.0 i have not played the LotV beta on this puppy though.
a year ago i tried to upgrade to Win 8.1 and it caused too many issues so i went back to 8.0 maybe its Win 8.1 that is the problem in some cases?

"i7" doesn't mean much when there are 6 generations of them, laptop and desktop and sc2 doesn't scale from extra cores or HT. Even a 6'th gen i5 can outperform a 6'th gen i7 in sc2 easily, depending on core clock speeds, RAM used etc. It's about the performance of one core
|
I play 4v4 and in most games it's very bad. Unplayable. It starts when there is a first engagement. Even if I'm not watching that engagement.

Is normal because the engine takes a huge list of inputs from players and simulates all of the fights no matter what you're doing (even as an observer who is looking at the corner of the map). If anyone lags in 4v4 it'll also hold back everyone, so you can't set your entire team and enemy team to use 32-bit client - there's probably still people using 64

I am sorry but i cant agree to the explanation of Cyro.
I never had problems pre patch, but now the problems are tremendous.
CPU is not even near to being challenged by SC2. There has to be a different problem.

How do you come to that conclusion? It's very well known that sc2 is highly limited by CPU performance - like 95% of the time ingame when performance is low is just waiting for 1 thread on the CPU.
Performance dropped with high unit counts for everyone since forever, that's just how the engine is. I don't doubt that it's worse now but it's always been bad, just maybe not nearly as bad.

I got 1 core doing all the work on my processor. Goes up to 99-100% quite frequently with 200v200 battles. I get frame drops. Its sad. I'm on medium settings with a GTX970 and an i5 2320 @ 3.0g
dafuq seriously. I'm getting teen framerates -
I work helpdesk so I have done a ton of troubleshooting. It's pure processor load with 200v200 and marines splitting/bane splitting going on. The game becomes a slideshow for moments. It's not latency, or other apps. I am playing just sc2 with all unnecessary processes off, win7 64 bit. It's maddening as hell and I've stopped playing, for the most part.
edit: was totally fine, maxed FPS (I vsync at 60) for all games, all the time, before 3.0 dropped.

No it wasn't. My CPU performance should be approaching 2x faster than yours and i had games that went lower without ever going past 2v2, as did every other system that i've ever benchmarked against
You also can't simply vsync at 60fps for sc2 - due to the frame pacing, you'd need to maintain about 100-120fps for a 60fps vsync with no dropped frames.
Once again i don't doubt there has been a performance change big enough for a lot of people to really notice - but performance was never that good in the first place. An FPS change of 20-50% overnight is extremely obvious, up or down.
Every time something like this happens people claim that they had "perfect" performance before and every time, it's people who did not monitor their FPS properly during the times that it would drop further and didn't notice because they had not regularly played on a system that had substantially better performance.

Don't even get me started on the prologue maps ... jeeeeeeesus fucking christ

Battle.net 0.3 delivering! I heard playing with the 16 bit client really does wonders too.
