With Legacy of the Void on the horizon, the first iteration of a LotV Proleague was confirmed on-stream during today's SK Telecom Proleague Grand Finals. The chairman of IeSF (confirmation needed) merrily confirmed the continuation of Proleague into the new year, thanking the fans for their unending support of the league and stating that professional Starcraft II in Korea could not have gone on without them.
Turnout at the venue was very high, overcrowding the alotted space and allegedly flooding nearby areas with people interested in the ongoing match. The IeSF chairman continued his impromptu Thank You-speech by saying that Starcraft II seems to be on the rise in Korea, once again thanking the fans and painting a bright future for the game going into 2016.
A sponsor for next year's Proleague has yet to be announced (SK Telecom have sponsored the previous two seasons), but SpoTV have been confirmed to still be broadcasting the league next season.
The chairman also promised that there will be additional KeSPA Cups going forward, at least one (supposedly one yet to be played in 2015) but presumably more.

Great news! I also read on reddit that they announced/confirmed the next KeSPA cup. Is that correct?
Anyway, sc2 seems to be doing great in Korea and will do even better next year I think!

Absolutely right, I forgot about that. KeSPA Cup seems to be a thing in multiple games going forward, which is also a net positive for KeSPA.

Being at the venue live really made me happy to see so many passionate Korean fans. It's really heartwarming to see that these fans aren't even casual fans, they seriously follow the scene intensely. I hope BW and Starcraft 2 last for another 10 years at least. <3

As the finals have also been steamed on AfreecaTV and Afreeca is taking over more and more SC II (and BW), maybe they start also sponsering here a bit. Would be coolio.
And yeah finals have shown, that SC II is not dead in Korea and man, I gonna miss HotS so hard

Very great news ! Proleague is such a good competition to watch
|
So happy Proleague continues, not that I really doubted it but it is always nice to have a confirmation. It is easily my favorite tournament and I love watching it all year long. The finals today were really sick as well!
Never stop, Proleague! <3

I hope they will do bo7 for the regular games too, would be so awesome

Ohhh maybe there's a new sponsor on the horizon? nothing against SKT but seeing other companies interested in Starcraft would be nice!

I hope they go back to crazy maps...that will be insane in legacy

Good! proleague is an essential part of the scene!

Well, Naver did one season of StarLeague and Lotte and KT sponsored one KeSPA Cup each this year, SBENU did a lot with one season of GSL and two seasons of S2SL of course, and then we also have Hot6ix and their GSL sponsorship. So I'd say we have at least a bit of variety here.
I agree though, the more sponsors the better!

I'm calling it now, at least one of the teams in next year's finals won't be any of Jin Air, CJ, SKT, KT. Feels like next year is going to be fairly different.

Has SSL been confirmed for 2016 as well?

The chairman super vaguely implied that "other" exciting things are on the horizon and that next year will be "even more exciting than this year" - it could be smooth PR talk to roll off his announcement of 2016 Proleague, but given the addition of Starleague this year and the apparent growth of SC2 in Korea, maybe they have a big sponsor-related announcement to make eventually?
On October 11 2015 03:13 jalstar wrote: Has SSL been confirmed for 2016 as well?
More or less, at least. I've not heard anything to the contrary, but I'm fuzzy on whether or not it was explicitly confirmed to be continuing into 2016. I think so.

Wouldn't mind if they did PL so that it contains 1 archon mode match.

Great news, in my opinion Proleague is the highest level of Starcraft that you can watch on a regular basis. I'm also really looking forward to see what teams will be participating next year, maybe we'll get some new teams or a couple of the teams that didn't perform too well this year may improve somehow.
Really hope they stick with Wolf, Valdes and Moonglade as well. Great having them cast as a trio. A little bit of a shame that their were some technical issues with the sound in the grand finals today, but oh well.
|
Great news! With all these companies making LoL-like games, SC2 has the variety to be different and still attract the viewership tired of yet-another-brawler.

well new game means current player skill may not mean much for LotV so its not very unlikely that the big4 wont all finish top4

LOTV is still sc2, i doubt it would change anything

So glad I will have StarCraft to watch for another year.

I'd like Bo7 with 2 archon matches! Can't wait how the high level players will play the new units, and who can find out new exciting strategies first.

If the 2016 season is anything like that, the meta/players will have stabilized long before the playoff spots are determined.

Samsung could at least be top 4 if Solar didn't underperform so hard in proleague. You'd think a player with 3 premier titles in HotS could get a winrate better than 26%.

clarifying some things here

he used to be chairman of kespa but resigned because there was a new rule stating he couldn't be a president of a government organization and hold a district position (or something like that) at the same time. i dont actually think he's the chairman of iesf but he still has a lot of power within kespa.
The chairman also promised that there will be additional KeSPA Cups going forward, at least one (supposedly one yet to be played in 2015) but presumably more.
there is the lol kespa cup next month but no sc2 one for this year.

They also mentioned an amateur tournament on stream, didn't they? Would be great to have some new names coming into the professional scene, wonder if it's going to be anything like Courage tourneys

Maybe I'm wrong but Bo7 sounds bad to me. Bo5 is fine, we get to see the very top players, not the B teamers, and the matches are already quite long to watch every monday and tuesday. Going to Bo7 will result in lower level matches, longer days and will require more decent players to skip travelling to other events because they have to work on proleague.

Bo7 provides too many games IMO. Current format is the best. And also Archon Mode is not for pro scene IMO.

bo5 is stupid and allows for a team to be carried by 2 good players (what a depth of line up!)

Sure it stops matchfixing somewhat, but on the other hand players won't be able to prepare really specific strats. Maybe it doesn't really matter that much, but as of right now i would rather see bo7 than double blind picks.
Completely new and crazy maps maybe even the most important part for me atm

Completely new and crazy maps maybe even the most important part for me atm well there were things like map snipers who's job was to prepare strats specifically for a map. The most extreme case of this was a phenomenon called, Neo Brave Reaction. + Show Spoiler +he literally played just one map the entire season, other than outlier which happens to be the outlier(puns!)
meaning that even the random non first string players get a chance as snipers.
|
Well sure, but that would be somewhat possible now too. With the exception of the other team KNOWING for sure. I think this is a good thing because it allows for more specific preparation. All of this is only really important when we have interesting maps though i guess, so who knows.

Funnily enough, even the people who watched only SC2 Proleague have now watched 3 seasons and are fully entitled to being skeptical about or disliking the idea of blind lineups. People that watched chiefly BW may remember double blind fondly, but not everyone. I prefer the current format.

I mean i think it actually isn't THAT important. I am sure we would get nice matches either way. Bo7 though... pls make it happen!
