EDIT: To see the poll results, you have to fill in the answers and refresh the page. I did this to prevent everybody from being affected by the outcomes before casting their votes. Thanks very much for your contribution!
Hello everybody!!
In the last week, David Kim (Daybie) publishes two seperate Community Feedback reports (Community Feedback Update - November 20; Community Feedback Update - November 25). These are part of a reasonably new public relations strategy from Blizzard to keep their players well informed about their concerns with the game. Overall, whilst the community does not fully agree with the content of said reports, the fact these reports are published is generally very appreciated.
Today, a new post of similar structure popped up. Avilo publishes his interpretation of the communities concerns regarding balance in the game, mostly (Avilos Community Feedback Update - What you WANT). Whilst a number of people, including myself, were critical of the biased content, there is some merit to his concerns.
His post encouraged me to create this thread which I had been toying around with for a while. Whenever you read any forum, numerous claims over the balance state of certain races, more specifically certain units, are confidently reported as true and well accepted facts. Every time this happens, I am curious whether the majority actually agrees with said comment.
This thread could be defined as a "poll-thread", something I know the staff over at this beautiful website does not really like. Alas, I think these polls can be the basis for some solid discussions.
Notes: - Whenever I mention 'stats', this includes the following and similar variables: speed, health, regeneration, ability damage, ability cooldown, armor type, etcetera. - Regarding Parasitic Bomb, with Design, I ment the following: Currently, the spell is cast on an enemy unit. This unit will take its damage, regardless of whatever play the opponent makes. All the opponent can do is try to minimize the splash (read: no real counter-play possible).
+ Show Spoiler [Polls] +Poll: Zerg is too powerful in certain matchups.(Vote): Zerg is too powerful versus Terran. (Vote): Zerg is too powerful versus Protoss. (Vote): Zerg is too powerful versus both other races. (Vote): Zerg is currently in a fine state. (Vote): Zerg is currently strong in non-mirrors, but not to a concerning degree. Give the meta more time.
Poll: The Map Pool(Vote): The Map Pool is currently way too non-standard. (Vote): The Map Pool is fine. (Vote): Most problems are design problems, the Map Pool is not to blame for those.
Poll: The Ravager(Vote): The Ravager is currently in a fine state. (Vote): The Ravager is correct statwise, but comes too early in the game. (Vote): The Ravager is correct timing wise, but the stats are too high. (Vote): The Ravagers state is concerning, but the meta should be given more time to figure it out.
Poll: The Liberator(Vote): The Liberator is currently in a fine state. (Vote): The Liberator is correct statwise, but Defender Mode (Ground attack) comes too early in the game. (Vote): The Liberator is correct timing wise, but the stats are too high. (Vote): The Liberator state is concerning, but the meta should be given more time to figure it out.
Poll: The Warp Prism (pick-up range)(Vote): The Warp Prism is currently in a fine state.Warp Prism (Vote): The Warp Prism pick-up range is too large. (Vote): The Warp Prism state is concerning, but the meta should be given more time to figure it out.
Poll: The Nydus Worm(Vote): The Nydus Worm is currently fine. (Vote): The Nydus Worm Invincibility when constructing is concerning. (Vote): The Nydus Worm Invincibility when constructing is problematic.
Poll: Parasitic Bomb(Vote): The Parasitic Bomb is currently fine. (Vote): The Parasitic Bomb design is fine, but the stats are too strong. (Vote): The Parasitic Bomb stats are fine, but the design is poor. (Vote): The Parasitic Bomb is concerning, but the meta should be given the time to figure it out.
Poll: Pylon Overcharge(Vote): The Pylon Overcharge is currently fine. (Vote): The Pylon Overcharge design is problematic, but it is a necessary element in the game for Protoss. (Vote): The Pylon Overcharge stats are too high, but the design is acceptable. (Vote): The Pylon Overcharge is concerning, but the meta should be given the time to figure it out.
I, being an active reader on multiple boards, would like to publish a sort of "Community Concerns" thread weekly to bi-weekly. This would have the same sort of structure as Avilos thread, but then it actually represents the opinions of the Starcraft community. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. I think it would be interesting content nonetheless.
Obviously, any feedback regarding this topic can be posted or PM'd to me directly.
Thank you very much! Toastie

Can I get a "Map pool sucks and is Zerg favored" option?

I keep hearing the comment that ravagers should be from a roach warren upgrade to a ravager den. I like this idea.

@Toastie: There's a mistake in the WP poll:
The Warp Prism is currently in a fine state.Warp Prism

I don't like the name "ravager". It's so unoriginal, please come up with new names in the spirit of: zergling, hydralisk, etc..

Don't think I can change it though. Nicely spotted!

Is there no hope to fix this ridiculous economy?

Nice polls and good stuff about only seeing the results after voting :D
Some of the results (map pool, nydus worm, parasitic bomb and pylon overcharge) seem pretty clear to me.

Yes, the stats seems quite clear, but I was hoping for slightly more discussion in this thread. On the other hand, it might just devolve to theorycraft and people making uninformed statements...

Something tells me the OP is a protoss player. There's still plenty of concerning designs wrt Protoss with aspects both overtuned and still left with feeling like a bandaid over all the weaknesses in fundamental mechanics and race design. Lurkers, Ultralisks, Disruptors, Parasite Bomb and Terran's objectively weak mech composition and lategame outside of mass liberator are still worth discussing where possible but Blizzard themselves seem to be only picking and choosing the surface level issues, or bringing some up that aren't worth the time or effort (has anyone ever had a problem with burrow? the disruptor change is basically a bug fix). I'm fairly disappointed in the recent community updates and hope to see a turn around.

Firstly, for somebody called Terran4Lyfe and calling out a topic starter on his race (which is false, by the way, I've played Random for 4 years now), you write a very interesting post which is not short on its bit of Terran related bias if I might say so.
I've done my best to phrase the polls as objectively as possible, if you disagree with that, please point out what the problem is so I can fix it for the next time.
As of now, your post does nothing but illustrate exactly why I started this topic in the first place.
concerning designs wrt Protoss with aspects both overtuned and still left with feeling like a bandaid over all the weaknesses
Terran's objectively weak mech composition and lategame
The whole purpose of this thread is to pinpoint exact areas of concern, not to spout your opinion as fact without explaining it.

He does raise a valid point about adding more polls about other stuff tho: Ultras, Lurkers, Collossus, Adepts, Chronoboost, Carriers, Siege Tanks or Cyclones. It's worth thinking about these too.

I had to decide between (A) the option I choose and (B) covering a lot more subjects.
On the other hand, and this is a personal opinion, all of these issues really have to do a lot with the metagame and how (un)comfortable people currently are in the game. Of all these concerns, only Cyclones and Chronoboost are not really part of timings and builds yet.
So I agree, at a later time, these are certainly very important issues to look at, but for now, I choose for a smaller base of issues to start off with. Thanks for the feedback though!
(Notice, Blizzard specifically mentioned looking at Siege Tanks again, which is why I left them out)

What about: the vipers parasitic bomb design is poor and the stats are to strong? can't vote for any of the options there.
and where are ultras?
|
I would like some "I don't know" or "no opinion" options. there are polls where I do not consider my experience to be sufficient to formulate an opinion but where I would like to see the polls. I just voted a placeholder answer on those this time but I would prefer to not have to skew the results with my uninformed opinion if possible.

I have commented on this before. In short, I think Ultralisk and their situation is also very reliant on the learning process, and as I didn't want too many different topics, I opted to exclude Ultralisk.
As for the Viper comment, fair statement. Expressing your concerns in the thread is very valid though, and I will take it into account.

I'm sorry it wasn't in there this round, and I'll make sure it'll be there in the future!
