And yes, I agree that the list of games and some of the winners are a bit... questionable (and that's a rather generous word). I'd love for my favorite game to defy the trends. I have so many fond Brood War memories and friends. To me, Starcraft is more than just the game.

The game has such lasting appeal. I can actually remember a friend of mine in the 5th grade making fun of me for "still playing" StarCraft (this was 2000, 15 years ago!). It really defined a lot of my imagination as a child. I have so many silly memories even beyond the game. From pretending I was an Archon patrolling my neighborhood on my bike, to drawing out base layouts and strategies while in sunday school, and even writing up fan fiction stories with my friends, just so many memories that I look back on and smile at which are not even from playing the game.

This top 8 doesn't have that much variety either, you might as well have a poll for best shooter. Meh. Starcraft can lose this, it's like seeing your favorite rock band not make the Hall of Fame. I'm okay with it, because I know the Hall of Fame is a joke. Twilight Princess is a masterpiece dude.

I'm not arguing that it was a great Zelda game, but P4 is a legendary RPG, that no doubt contributed more to its genre than TP. It losing so early on, after only beating out another cult game, probably owes to public perception. More people know Zelda, no question, it has one of the best reputations of any game. When it comes to the game itself, I got 200+ hours out of P4, so did most other players of the game. TP wasn't in the same league for me. In any case, this is all course of opinon, it's not like I'm upset. I think for the most part trying to rank works of art or entertainment are meaningless, and just comes out of the desire for a "this is the best game of all time OMG" kind of case. People like things to be linear, ordered, and clear-cut, even when it isn't appropriate.
