"First, SSL stretchs its main tournament period from 11 to 14 weeks; Ro. 16 and quarterfinals will be Bo3/Bo5 single elimination, while semifinals will be changed into Bo5 dual tournament.
Semifinals will be held for 5 weeks and changes its name to "playoff" in order to make it more like "festival" (*this means 'differentiate', I suppose.). Players will be judged solely by their talents and skills alone, because the proportion of group stages weighed less heavily and procedures for finals are strengthened. Also, this new system raises fans` expectations for Grand finals by watching more fierce competitions. Two players who survived from playoffs and final match advance to the Grand finals."
Edit: GF will be Bo7

making it more exciting?

So basically the RO16 / RO8 are like semi-qualifiers now? The dual tournament starts at the RO4?... Not sure what to feel about this...

Double-elim play-offs suck because you have to choose between dehyped finals or the winner bracket player getting screwed over ~_~.

Round of 16 only Best of 3? That could be over very fast sadly.

With the games being generally shorter, I hoped that we may see more bo5 instead of bo3 and bo7 instead of bo5

Is the Grand Finals still Bo7 or now Bo5?

What do they mean by this?

It`s writer`s personal opinion; they`re expecting that sort of positive effects.

BO7, somewhere outside of the studio.

Ro16 of one of the 4 biggest Korean tournaments should not be Bo3. So much is riding on it due to less tournaments so that's really sad to see.

This makes it sound like the players are going to be sent through a gauntlet of skills where they have to cook and drive a car through an obstacle course and train hamsters to play SC2 for them

...I had some hope that, with the removal of the Group Stage, Round of 16 matches would have been Best of 5 but it seems not... I like the double-elimination from semifinals thing but this "group stage becomes bo3 single elimination" change sounds kinda meh atm... we'll see though!

I don't understand why they just don't make it Ro4 right away with Life, Maru, herO, and one other boss, and make it bo15 triple elimination.

Each participant in the round of 4 will be placed into a single group. Each player will then play each other player one time in a round robin, with each match being a best of 69.
This contest will last from mid may to October, when we find out who will qualify for BlizzCon.

Double elimination ideally guarantees that the 2 best players makes it to the grand finals.
Do the grand finals have a WB advantage?
