"Unfortunately I decided to part ways with Team Acer because our expectations are different for 2016 in which I would like to participate in as many events as possible. I will continue playing Starcraft2 and you can watch me play just in a couple of days, teamless already, at Dreamhack Leipzig! Please continue supporting me in the future as I do not plan to stop stop playing Starcraft2. I am motivated to play Legacy of the void so you can expect a lot from me in the upcoming months!"
So they have different expectations of SC2 for 2016, I wonder if that is code for Acer not thinking highly of SC2, since Nerchio has been winning a lot of online cups recently vs talented players (Koreans included).
"We decided to part ways on good terms as our expectations of StarCraft 2 are different for 2016. Joining Acer was probably the biggest breakthrough in my career. As I continue to play StarCraft 2 I hope the future brings as much success as I had before."
Sounds like Acer is going to close down their SC2 division

possibly just a personal sponsorship for Scarlett, but no word from either her or Bly about it. Acer was such a supportive and successful team, this comes as a big surprise.
Really surprising. No idea what it means that they have different expectations. Anyway, I will always cheer for Artur and he will still destroy the foreign scene this year I think .
I will always keep Acer in mind. Scarlett, MMA, Innovation, #blyOnFire, Nerchio... if they really drop sc2, well, then be it. They supported a lot of players I adore.
Nerchio can you elaborate on this part: "as our expectations of StarCraft 2 are different for 2016", and at least tell us what your expectations for 2016 are?
You don't have to tell us what Acer is thinking or what the differences are, just your view would be nice .

Edited in an exclusive statement from Nerchio himself! Sounds motivated and ready to roll in LotV, should be good! Always been one of the best foreigners when he put the time in to practice.

Sad. I like Nerchio, he deserves a sponsor, really don't get this other than Acer closes sc2 division.
Which is also really sad.
I would love to hear some good news about starcraft, I honestly can't remember the last piece of good news I hear about this game (other than LOTV release).

Also lol @Acer which braces fucking millions not being able to support 3 people, you can just say you hate starcraft that would be better.
I'm pretty sure Kaoru still loves StarCraft even though he's really busy. He was on a podcast with Balrog and Imre, maybe one of them remember what Kaoru said about Acer involvment in StarCraft after the release of Legacy of the Void.

Artur earlier already not sure if Acer was going to send him to Dreamhack so I'm not too surprised. I mean, not sending your best player to an important tournament like that..
Even if Acer leaves the SC2 scene and does so with lousy PR we should be thankful Acer made a cool team and did some nice stuff over the years with SC2.
I love SC2 esports, however, it is not a charitable organization. Every metric indicates very slowly decreasing interest in SC2 so you can't blame these companies leaving the esports scene or lowering their support levels in the esports scene.
Good Luck To Nerchio. Thanks To Acer for your support.
Sometimes you just have to part ways I guess. Acer's been a great team for a long time but gradually getting smaller now it seems. GL to Nerchio this year!
Nerchio and Acer parting ways feels weird after such a long time. But what makes me curious is that Team Acer originally announced they would send him to DH Leipzig. I wonder why they didn't wait until the end of the event to announce this.
It didn't sound so much like dropping out of SC2 with Nerchios additional comment but it does sound like they've really keeping it on a small scale . Reminds me of them patting themselves on the back on twitter for sending Scarlett to the last HSC...
Sadly i think that having an "undefined" future means that this is probably heading to an end... Maybe if bly or scarlett have a nice performance it can relaunch it a bit ? not really sure tho.

Actually not really. Now that Acer is slowly stepping back, Liquid is pretty much the only big foreigner team left. EG is long gone and with it some juicy rivalry. For the sake of balance another team would be better. Also i don´t think Liquid is a fitting team for Nerchio, he is more like a "villain". And don´t forget that Liquidpro has already 4 zergs, now that Vortix is back!
edit: with that beeing said, i really wish him a decent team, he is one of the promising guys in LotV so far.
On January 21 2016 00:07 JonnySC2 wrote: Looks like Acer is dropping SC2.
Not necessarily, but they could be de-emphasizing it. It could also be a cost-reduction play (less events, less travel costs), but then you'll also get less publicity as a team.
Big shame, losing MMA and Nerchio both within a month is a huge blow - Acer was quite a mainstay of the foreign SC2 scene.

Well, I mean, I'd consider teams like Millenium and mYI pretty big. The latter has admittedly gotten a lot smaller with Rain retiring etc.

I mean, there are still large and active SC2 foreign teams, they are just different teams than what were big a few years ago. Millenium, mYi, and Liquid in EU, with other more national teams like TES (True eSport), Property, etc, and in NA with the newly surging Flipside, its not all doom and gloom for "big teams". There are many more "growing teams" than big established teams, sure, but the foreign team presence is not all lost.
I don't see that as overly surprising. I mean Acer was basically a 3-people team once Acer.MMA became Sbencer.MMA, and of those three, Scarlett was almost invisible and had temporary retirement periods, and Bly was having up and down results, meaning Nerchio was the only one to consistently hold high the Acer flag. That was a clear sign of a lack of ambition, and that shows now that Acer refused (I guess, only speculating) to pay for Nerchio's travel expenses. I hope Nerchio joins a good, solid, legit team soon. As much as the guy can annoy me sometimes, he's a great player and this year's WCS system is basically crafted for people like him. Sadly, I don't see many solid foreign teams out there except Liquid and Millenium [edit : I guess mYi too, though with them losing Rain and Reynor recently I'm not sure].

It's a great storyline when the foreigners manage to overcome and not get completely smashed every once in a while. When Scarlett got just kinda smashed by only the 4th Korean in a row at MLG, or when Snute managed to not get smashed vs two Koreans in a row, it's great! They literally just made a documentary about the time Idra only got smashed by a few Koreans at MLG Columbus. Foreigners overcoming adversity in the shape of Korea is the best storyline.

In my opinion, Korean vs Korean at almost every finals tends to get boring, the same strats, the same games as watching a Korean league. The new system allows a lot more foreigners to VS Koreans than it always being KvK. I like rooting for foreigners and I have been rooting for foreigners since BW.

At region level tournaments, which is completely fine. The world finals? We'll definitely have more opportunities for FvK, and this makes Showmatches much more special. Also if a Korean has been living some where for a while, they're still able to compete in said region.

That's still a lot less Koreans vs foreigners overall. 8 matches in Blizzcon traded for every one you'd normally get at all the IEMs DHs and Redbull stuff throughout a year.

I don't think anyone actually blamed WCS 2016 for Nerchio leaving Acer. The thread derailed towards WCS 2016 though, which I apologize for as I'm partly to blame
This is really surprising to me, since Acer kept going in HoTS, where only MMA was doing something, and they're pulling out of LoTV where all their players are doing well AND they all get to enjoy the new "welfare WCS" which I'm pretty sure will get them some really high results this year..
Considering he's already guaranteed to be at the WCS winter championship, Acer must be downsizing their sc2 division big time. Probably just Scarlett remaining soon.

By the level of play ? I mean... i understand why you are happy with those rules but i don't see how this will change a thing at Blizzcon. Because unlike GSL,S2SL etc... DH,IEM realease replay. They will be abble to analyze foreigner play and walk over them as usual.
This just shows that sponsors don't really give a shit about results, it's more about the "popularity" of the players
Well Blizz enforced that in the foreign scene when they took away their chance to compete with the best to actually make meaningful results happen. For Nerchio it is sad, since he was able to win series against koreans, yet does not attract the biggest fanbase. On the bright side, he can now win most events and hopefully make a living off of the prize money.

Yeah let's bash at sponsors. They should all just go right ?
Yeah, who needs fuckin' sponsors anyways. I think we should remove all sponsors from the SC2 scene ; instead, TL forum members will get a pool of liquid'dollars in proportion to their postcount and weekly activity, and each member will be free to spend his liquid'dollars pool to support players (thus you can give huge amounts of money to one player or spread it out). And yes, players will be payed in liquid'dollars. Immaterial money is best money, as credit cards and banks taught us.
