Well guys IEM is starting in a couple of days, and I thought we could gather some of the facts about the players in this thread! Feel free to add more
Sry for the table, dno how to create a good one here at TL
My top 3 contenders: 1) Snute 2) Neeb 3) Nerchio
I will for sure cheer for Snute. He has been performing really well lately, especially in his games against ByuN. However, Neeb and Nerchio will probably go far as well and challenge Snute.
Kind regards Hofferino Team Viking TV

This is what will happen according to Aligulac, courtesy of Sheppard

Neeb "WORLDrank" 2. Topkek lel.
Besides that i hope that viOLet gets away of his murican lifestyle and performs good again! So i hope for a high place finish for viOLet, like it would be nice to see him back in the Top4. Same goes for Snute and MaSa! To fill my last Top4 spot i would call Hydra out.
The more realistic one for me is: Nerchio, Showtime, Hydra and Neeb. Snute pretty close to them. How they place, i have no idea. StarCraft is pretty unpredictable, especially when it comes to the form of certain players. But Nerchio looks good, so if he keeps it up, we will see
|
@Nerchio Maybe in R16
@EXRNaRa haha yeah, that's what aligulac says... Dno how seriously you should take that ranking though xD

Showtime vs Nerchio epic Finals again :D

Can't have both Hydra and Neeb in the Ro4 with this bracket.

Anything less than a finals appearance for Nerchio would be considered an upset.
The other side should probably be the winner of Neeb/Hydra unless showtime beats them in the ro4

Head: Nerchio Heart: Neeb Nerchio is super on fire and it won;t go anywhere anytime soon

If Has won I would be so happy.

Nerchio looks kind of unbeatable atm, but so does protoss, so nerchio or showtime.
Neeb was already overhyped, but since he lost to marinelord 4-0, his spirit seems to have been sorta broken. Saw him against Bly the other day he got roflstomped.

No offence to the players - I look up to many of them and think they work hard but once again another tournament with all the same players... its starting to get boring even if the matches itself are good, its not refreshing. No Koreans, no new blood... it really feels stale.
:/

You are butthurt for no reason. This is just how Nerchio speaks. Ofcourse he thinks highly of ShoWTimE as you could see in his pregame interview on their last bo5. But if you ask him ofcourse he will write online "EZPZ" etc. Nerchio is a good guy.

:/ Banning Koreans from Shanghai... most desperate move ever. We all know how much better the koreans are, just let em play. Nobody cares if foreigner 1 beats foreigner 2 in the finals, its getting old pretty fast.

:/ I have to argue against this pretty strongly. In Brood War the Ro16 players has been pretty much remained the same with about 1-2 lesser skilled players alternating in over the past 3 years. If we assume these are the best of the foreigners in SC2 then all you should be concerned about is cheering for good games. If new players are to join the bracket they will have to get better and qualify. And not having Koreans isn't a reason for the tournament to be stale either. I could watch Jaehoon play Larva 20 tournaments in a row. That will never get old for me because I simply love watching Brood War that damn much and I know these players practice hard and care enough that they will deliver their best. If it were foreign tournaments, I would say the same. I would love to watch eonZerg vs Julia ZvZ every tournament. That would just create a hilarious matchup where I'm sure Julia's comments would be gold. Having the same players consistently in these tournaments is great too because it creates story lines. If Nerchio and Neeb end up playing each other in the next 3 tournaments suddenly a rivalry is created and added excitement is there.

Neeb vs Nerchio final, Neeb wins.

I will for sure cheer for Snute. He has been performing really well lately, especially in his games against ByuN.
Losing two bo5's within 24 hours to a player outside the top 5 is not really something I would point as a fantastic performance.

Showtime defeats Snute in the final.

I have to agree with this. As long as the games are good, I'm not quite sure why "new blood" needs to be introduced into the game. If new blood wants in tournaments, new blood needs to perform better. I want to see the TOP players, and right now it looks like these guys are it. So I will cheer them on and enjoy the tournament!

And I think that's probably what is/will be a good draw to these sorts of tournaments. The exciting part is seeing different players being able to compete for the finals. Of course we have Showtime, Neeb, Snute, and Nerchio, (and Hydra and Polt who really have not been performing all that well) but we also have other players like Marinelord, Masa, Elazer, Harstem, Scarlett, and Mana (among others) who have demonstrated an ability to compete with the best foreigners.
I don't mean to say that locking the Koreans out was the best idea or that I don't miss and prefer to see them play, but when an iem had half Koreans and half foreigners, it was pretty certain that the Koreans would kill and the foreigners lose (except for that one foreigner). But now, it's a lot less certain that a mid-high Korean will always beat the best foreigners.

Nobody cares if foreigner 1 beats foreigner 2 in the finals, its getting old pretty fast. I agree completely. I don't mind region locking Koreans out for WCS, but locking them out of weekend tournaments is just horrible... From what my friends in Korea have told me, many of the Korean players are losing their passion now and are playing other games in their free time. I'm really sad that this is the solution that Blizzard/SC2 fans have for bringing back SC2's popularity. Killing off the best players because some people can't empathize with them.

Limited nationalities....koreans would fuck all so this is like some shit level football.

I predict no terrans after first round

Neeb chokes and Nerchio probably also with some actual big expectations of him. So probably a Snute vs Showtime final.

:/ It's no different than the Korean events and what happened all of last year. It was always the same players at the top and facing off against each other, but no one cared because it was Korea or something. Also, we have new blood playing better in Reynor and Rail in particular along with early bracket appearances for players like Lillikanin in most events.

There is a difference between the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. Doesn't matter which club is the best in Europe - it may even be a club like Sevilla or Liverpool in the Europa League based on current form (teams end up in either tourney based on last season's performance, which may not reflect this season's).
Doesn't matter if Neeb or Nerchio is Top 3 in the world right now. They can wreck WCS noobs, but that doesn't make it a spectacle. Fact is, Korean leagues are more stacked with top players (as were the weekend tourneys pre-2016 and region lock) than WCS and IEMs now - hence why the quality is different, and yes, better. It's not about seeing the same or new faces. It's about having a tourney with a lot of top players fighting out, same or new, Korean or foreigner.
Sorry to hijack the thread with a WCS region lock rant. I know some people enjoy watching WCS, as do people enjoy watching the Europa League, and I respect that. But let's not pretend that this IEM will be as stacked with top players and great games as Korean starleagues or previous IEMs.

Power Rank! #1 Nerchio #2 Neeb #3 ShoWTimE #4 Snute #5 Hydra (2940th loss vs Neeb lul) #6 viOlet

Truly an all-star lineup. I will go the brave route and predict Nerchio winning it all.

Its the same as if there was an IEM with all foreigners and 1 (Kespa) Korean, that tournament would be boring as hell and that victory would be completely meaningless. I think region locking WCS is fine, but stay away from the weekend cups... They're so uninteresting now.
