Yes, twitch bought GGA which means they bought EG and Alliance. Garfield was the main owner (there were others who ran EG aka the 4 horsemen). EG/Alliance has stayed very active in Dota, the FGC, Halo, Fifa. Really only the sc2 division dropped off.
I'm not sure what Garfield's role at Twitch was, I'm sure he was still operating GGA (which did more than EG and Alliance, they represented many different players and streamers as well). I'm a little surprised to see him leave. IIRC he is a musician and has been pursuing that more and more as time has gone on. It's weird that he won't be a part of EG anymore. Wish him nothing but the best. The man is a legend in esports for the work he has done. He has pushed this thing we love to places many didn't think were possible. esports would not be the same if it were not for Alex Garfield.

idk, EG has kinda been in the dark lately. Like when was their last big player signing? PPMD? And now he's kinda droppd off.
But yea, good luck Alex in whatever venture you're going into now. You built up quite the empire and made your mark on esports history.

Seems like (according to wikipedia) the team was founded in 1999, but Alex started working for them in 2004, so he isn't quite an original founder but has still been instrumental in their growth since then

Well after twitch bought EG he'll be pretty rich so I guess he just wants to pursue other things in life?

Alex Garfield is a cool cat.

Why would that have to do with anything related to Alex and his teams.
Alex is going to pursue music, calling it now.

I think that this is one of the biggest news stories in the esports scene this year. I find it surprising that this isn't making more waves. Alex was hugely influential in bringing esports to the point that it is now in 2016.

There aren't many old school CS-ers on TL, and EG hasn't been very relevant to SC2 for a while now.
But I completely agree.

They have one of the best Dota 2 teams... They won 1st place at TI5 raking in over 6 and a half million dollars.

This happens all the time. Company A buys/absorbs Company B. Company A decides they want a new face running things and want to take Company B's business in a different direction than the original owner. Company B's original owner is asked to leave and given severance. It isn't that big of a deal. The big deal is old news and that is that twitch bought GGA in the first place. Of course this was going to happen.

Guessing he shouldn't have ate all the lasagna..........
