Chaos reigns over the ritual of Rak'Shir. Enemines are not where they first appear to be, and your forces find themselves overcome with fear. Even your own perspective is warped and twisted. Maintain focus long enough for Ji'nara to win the challenge.
Map: Chain of Ascension.
Mutators: Vertigo: Your camera randomly changes positions. Fear: Player units will occasionally stop attacking and run around in fear after taking damage. Evasive Maneuvers: Enemy units teleport a short distance away upon taking damage.
Really got to hand it to Blizzard on this one, they managed to make a mutator I hate more than Micro Transactions. The camera doesn't just rotate with Vertigo, it also changes pitch. I don't normally get nauseous but I was feeling a bit sick at times. If you can handle the camera the rest of the mission is easy. I beat it with Swann turret pushing the middle (which works very well with Evasive Maneuvers since enemies will teleport into range of more turrets fairly often) while my ally went around with an Alarak deathball. Not playing this again.

Went mass tempests and won easily with a Swann ally. Vertigo, though, is annoying as fuck and the reason I won't play this mutation a second time.
Poll for best commander

Do yourself a favor, and play a commander that can F2 A and not look at anything other than the minimap. Seriously. Spellcasting is hard, watching stuff fight while inverted is hard, and moving camera, is awkward as hell.
After about 10 minutes I literally used zagara to drop roaches, frenzy, and amoved everything while doing injects and tabbing through all my buildings for upgrade on one hotkey.
|
I think we can all agree that Blizzard has gone too far this time.
|
I saw a screenshot of how the camera rotates/tilts and I already feel nauseous, so I can't imagine how it feels like while playing and seeing the camera change every 20 seconds or so.
|
I only played it with Swann so far, remembering how he is most resistant to the fear mutation (because of his big range). Didn't turret push like xsyq, just the good ol' herc+tank in one group, goliath+SV in the other (the latter mostly just for the bonuses). Ally almost did nothing (I had to tell him many times to leave a unit near the two guys; though I'm used to that for this mission. Even the most incompetent allies are reasonably responsive as long as you're pushy enough). The only issue was sometimes I got confused which way to go, but I got used to it, and just clicking where to go on the minimap really helps (stopping to fight every time you engage something). Anyway, I did the mission plus the bonuses with very little issue (camera angles was the biggest issue, but luckily the other mutations are very mild).

Completed it for 1st time in 17 minutes or so with Raynor and Swann ally. didn't do bonus (didn't know how hard it would be playing 1st time), but easily could've done it. at the end ofc 2 base saturated, 200/200 and 3/3 bio. one of easiest mutations, although camera shifting is very fun/frustrating sometimes :D
useful tip: when camera is rotated heavily, do not navigate through moving mouse cursor near edge of the screen. Navigate by clicking on the minimap instead.

atleast they made it on the map where this is the least troublesome. Pretty used to having a fucked up screen because its a staple pvp experience since a few month now in the mmo I play. So this was a piece of cake.
|
I on the other hand don't mind the flipping, it makes it fun and unique. But I hate the map. It's the worst map in the pool if you play with someone clearly worse. While mission is easily soloable, it seems to always take 5min+ extra OR EVEN FAILURE when allies cannot get to their heads to have units near Jinara at all times. Always makes it the least enjoyable co-op map
|
Try playing a normal game after this one.
woOOoooOOoooOOoo
They should implement this into tournaments!

1a'd my way through as Zagara with Vorazun. Helps to just ignore the main screen except for injects / upgrades and play using the minimap.
Kind of dizzy now, though..

I wasn't ready for how often it would flip and how quickly it would start but just 1aed with goliath sci vessel with swann

Mission itself was doable and easy enough, but damn Vertigo is definetely not my mutator. Feeling dizzy now and got a headache (since we didnt finish on 1st try)..not the kind of feeling i want to have after playing a few games on PC :o
Fun idea, but please dont bring it back hah :D

I couldnt even watch a replay after playing this one. I usually play these missions several times but one is enough for this one.

This map can certainly be confusing and disorienting. But I'm surprised that people are saying that they feel dizzy or nauseous. The mutation is not actively rotating the screen, it's just statically changing the angle every 20 seconds. That's probably less frequent than the average Hollywood movie. Even in most 3D adventure video games, like Super Mario 64, the camera angle changes far more frequently, and it does so actively rather than statically choosing a fixed perspective for a period of time. Is it just that this angle switching is out of your control? It's true that in Super Mario 64 you are actively rotating the camera, but if you walk into an area where the current camera angle is impossible, the game forcefully rotates it. And that happens very often.
As I said this mutation can definitely get confusing and disorienting, which I think is interesting because it adds a new level of cognitive awareness that you have to put into the game. But I wonder if people just confuse those things with dizziness. I can't presume to tell others what they're feeling, if that's truly what's happening then who am I to say otherwise? I'm just surprised.

It is not just a feeling. Like I said before, I'm not normally prone to any sort of motion sickness but I was definitely feeling a bit nauseous by the time I was finished. I didn't really notice it until I was done with the mission but it was there. And frankly it's not at all surprising to me considering the focus you need to put on the screen when playing SC2 and and the fact that you're viewing things at angles they're not supposed to be viewed at every 14 or so seconds (or however long 20 Blizzard seconds is). Movies and SM64 have the camera remain in specific places and angles for a reason. And sure, combat awareness and all that, but there's better ways to do it. I'd like "do it properly or you lose", not "do it properly and feel sick".
|
So... I have two things to say about this mutation: 1) It's pretty easy. 2) It's been four hours now and I've still got a headache. I had to apologize to my buddy and bailed the 2nd game where we were trying new heroes.
I recommend this strategy to anyone who hasn't done this mutation yet: 1) Just use the minimap for everything. 2) Take some Gravol beforehand.
|
Never thanked more my habit of having hotkeys...
Done with Vorazun, with a Swann ally. We did both bonus as well. Mutation is incredibly easy, but the Vertigo is terribly annoying. A-clicked most of the times through the minimap.
|
After finishing it once, I still gotta say this was not as bad as I thought (definitely not as bad as micro transactions). I can't even use my smartphone while riding in a vehicle, but I was fine after this mutator.
I just mentally adjusted the image in my head while keeping track of key things (mainly the direction Ji'nara was going). Also, other things like my expo, ramps, etc. "The ramp is here (pointing upwards). Okay, send units down ramp".
A-move with gols, thors, and sci vessels.
|
I guess they put the 2 other mutators on purpose so the hardest part is just dealing with the different camera angles. Gotta say, I'm surprised I didn't feel sick because I thought there would be a difference between watching a video of it and actually playing it. I just needed to reference where I was based on what I remember from the original. Playing a game after the mutation felt a bit odd, I thought the camera angle was wrong despite being the standard angle but now I'm fine. Definitely not playing this again.

Commanders that can push throughout the game do well here. A-move commanders that don't need to use spells do well as well. Generally, these are ranked by how consistently they can solo the mission.
- Raynor: Powerful a-move commander that scales well with the difficulty of each successive wave of units. Also deals with the Elemental extremely easily.
- Abathur: Has a bit more difficulty with the beginning parts of the mission, but breezes through after the first Brutalisk. The best composition is probably Roach/Queen/Devourer since Vipers are a bit difficult to aim.
- Kerrigan: Wipes out the start easily and ramps into a good Deathball army. Kerrigan's ultimate is also perfect for clearing waves.
- Zagara: Similar to Kerrigan, ramps up extremely quickly, only slightly weaker at the end.
- Alarak: Can't use Ascendents really efficiently on this mission, but his Robotics-based deathball plays very similarly to Kerrigan as well. The Wrathwalkers are a bit vulnerable to air units though.
- Vorazun: Struggles with the Elemental and the first Hybrid air units in the first wave on the left, otherwise pretty decent.
- Artanis: Ramp up is just generally slow and Guardian Shell isn't too useful.
- Swann: Doesn't have the best a-move army and Hercs+Tanks are clumsy compared to the more a-move commanders.
- Karax: Weak units overall. Immortals are hard to target and units always dodge it. Phoenix/Zealot might bit a bit too weak a composition. Carriers are too slow to get.

Dam monk, did you actually play the mutation that many times to try all commanders... I commend you.
|
Actually, the mutation is so easy that if you can bear the vertigo, it's excellent to farm victories for achievements
|
Sure, it could be good for farming with pre-set ally. It friggin kills me I would solo this mission, if ally didn't exist, in <20min. With random ally it takes 25min. That just kills my motivation to bother playing it. Absolutely no challenge, vertigo doesn't hurt me at all, but the mission on its base is too "co-op" when you want to do it fast with randoms. It's a shame, because on ~any other map I'd have grinded the same mutation 10+ times, now only did it thrice or so.

I think you're underrating Swann. Goliath Sci Vessel is a super easy a move comp

I'd say he requires less attention to doing anything than Artanis and Vorazun. I don't have Vorazun unlocked so idk about him
