Well we will know for sure in the next two days :D Seems like an SSL teaser <3 Would be great, hopefully it is exactly that! (well i would prefer some kind of teamleague, but SSL is the next best thing ^^)
We need more leagues! I feel some resurgence on SC2 overall, and me also people around me are coming back to play. Starcraft its too good of a game, to quit forever.

Team league with only 1 Pro Team left?
I am not really a big fan of teams that players just form to enter a tournament.

Well if there would be a regular teamleague i am sure the players could figure out teams and maybe even get small sponsorship (unlikely but hey who knows) I think team matches are way better for potential growth than solo leagues because fans of a specific player can watch him play more regularly and it adds up with a team. Blizzard should sponsor one, both in korea and the rest of the world

Makes we wonder though, would they do that without it being part of WCS?
Their reasoning to stop doing SSL was that it wouldn't be part of WCS, no? Would be strange indeed. But this surely has to be a tease for another SSL, all the evidence needed is there ^^
On January 25 2017 02:22 FrostedMiniWheats wrote: BW SSL! >_>
That's what I thought as Wolf kinda implied he couldn't cast SC2 anymore (no more opportunities)
When did he say that though? I mean sc2 SSL was gone so it made sense for him to imply that a few months ago. SPOTV surely wouldn't do the teaser that way when it was a bw tournament?
Well with ASL being as successful as it was I could see this being for BW. sc2 is on a massive decline in Korea and I really don't see why they'd pull out of sc2 only to pull right back in. Would love to see another BW league. Might not be OSL and MSL, but having ASL and SSL seems pretty sick. They might want to change the name though if they end up doing BW.
If this is for SC2 after all I'm pretty happy for all the pros still doing sc2, they really need more opportunities than Code S to be able to continue to be pros.

While you are right about the general situation in korea, the teaser still heavily implies sc2 though. I don't see why it would if this was about bw
If they switch to sc1 i think they should stick to the name SSL, just like the OSL stayed the same when they transitioned to sc2. SpoTV StarLeague is already a well established brand.
Anyway, in the midst of all the exams and ladder dissapointments ive got something to look forward to, dont be yet another damp squib, thursday!

BW SSL is probably done since Sonic's business collapsed. The salt here would be incredible if they brought back SSL, but for another game. Just one last "screw you" from SpoTV as they drop SC2 for good.
I don't understand why you gys have to do this without ANY evidence at all it could be about bw. That kind of stuff is simply annoying because it's not based in reality one bit at this point. "Alternative facts" i guess

Yeah, that's the problem with acronyms, people just make them whatever they want them to be :D . And I've heard SpoTV StarLeague being used over the years as well. Either way, they should make their background known if they venture into BW.

Guys it's most likely about sc2, there would be no reason to create the teaser as it is otherwise. In fact it would be quite stupid^^

Yes I'm sure a TV channel goes from planning something to releasing a teaser in 2 days.
I know people have been saying this forever now, but wtf happened to music. Comparing the music from the 2nd teaser to MSL/OSL/PL stuff from a decade ago is like night and day.

As much as I'd love another BW starleague, I think SC2 needs more attention if they want it to surive in Korea. Supposedly sponsors are lining up to get involved in SC1, shame the same isn't happening in the latter installment of the franchise.

It's just basic business: advertisers want to get more eyes on their product. If SC2 isn't as popular as a nearly 20-year-old game that isn't the sponsors' fault, it's Blizzard's.

I know, that's why it hurt so much when 6 kespa teams pulled out of sc2 cause there was no business in it anymore, without holding onto any sentiment. But still, I'm hoping Afreeca find a way to revitalise the game, theye done an amazing job so far, both in SC2 and BW.

I dunno, Afreeca has such a strong grasp on the BW scene, I don't see why they'd be willing to get themselves a competitor yet. I feel like they should want to make as much money with BW as they can by themselves as long as possible.

Which of course they're free to do. Still, they'd have to deal with upset fans who might have watched a BW league if it was advertised differently.
I mean at the end of the day they teased another SSL. It implies sc2 but it could also be a BW one. Kinda like OSL switched to sc2. I hope that's not the case and we get an sc2 one, but as i said before i wanna have Spotv content for both games anyway.
Yeah but one without the other isn't both (this is some deep stuff I know)
If it's a BW tournament, not interested atm.
Well if you wanna believe Flash (or rather the translation of classicyellow) he implied that spotv is interested in doing bw content. That means i would hope the teaser was about sc2 so the chance of having both is increased
I dunno, Afreeca has such a strong grasp on the BW scene, I don't see why they'd be willing to get themselves a competitor yet. I feel like they should want to make as much money with BW as they can by themselves as long as possible.
I don't quite understand what you mean? If SPOTV wants to do a tournament then they can do that without any input from afreeca?
One of the things i wouldn't understand is where SPOTV gets the money from for another sc2 SSL / tournament. Is blizzard on board? Doesn't seem like it?

Yeah i know about March 3. Still i cannot wait anymore haha. There were rumors about spotv being interested in doing bw, but i hope that's not what these teasers are about because sc2 really needs some love as well. D-1, tomorrow a new teaser?
If it's not SC2 I think a lot of people will be upset with SPOTV because they used SSL to promote it.

Of course Afreeca doesn't control SPOTV. But they got pretty much every player on their payroll. Kinda like the whole KeSPA/OSL/GSL thing when they switched from BW to SC2.
Why would Blizzard be against it if SPOTV wanted to do one? Seems like just a matter of negotiating.
Oh so you want afreeca to try being kespa 2.0 Nah not gonna happen i think ^^
I mean why would SPOTV want to do one without sponsors. Before they had blizzard, where is the money coming from now? I hope the statement about tomorrow is true

Wasn't there a statement by SPOTV at some point that they were going to try to look for a solution for the whole thing even though they were left out of the WCS loop by Blizzard? A statement nobody actually believed?
Maybe they talked to Blizzard and figured something out. Or maybe it's not an SC2 tournament after all. Although in that case I guess you could still ask yourself where the money comes from.
If it was blizzard i feel like we would have heard about it in their announcement most likely. I guess it depends on what that tournament really is. If it's more like a kespa cup i coud see it being done with some smaller korean sponsor maybe? If it's a full SSL i doubt that works though.
Well Flash also said that a lot of sponsors are interested in BW atm with all the hype about TBLS being in bw again. So there is that. I mean there are even rumors that there might be another OSL depending on how well that OGN showmatch does in march.

You mean the WCS announcement where we all were surprised to hear that SSL was gone and after which SPOTV released a statement expressing their disappointment?
Or some other Blizzard announcement I missed that came out way after that? <.<
If the viewer demand is high enough SPOTV wouldn't need a sponsor for a BW tournament, remember that they are an actual TV channel.

We'll see soon enough anyway.
Ultimately Afreeca holds a lot of cards because they're signing the checks of all these people via their streams. But I really doubt Afreeca is going to pull on player's leashes atm since popularity of those tournaments means popularity on Afreeca streams.

Huh now i am not sure anymore. I thought there was one the last few weeks? I might be wrong though
Well usually these tournaments have sponsors though. Like all the old OSLs, etc. Sure it's a tv channel but it's still a niche one. But yeah i don't know how these channels like OGN/SPOTV operate exactly :D
I don't think Afreeca has ever shown that they're petty enough to oppose other SC2 tournaments. Ultimately more popularity of SC2 means more money for Afreeca, and SPOTV has shown that they're at least competent enough to run a decent tournament. I don't see any reason Afreeca would be against that...

They've gotten Sbenu/Naver before, grated Sbenu is an impossibility now.

I think any bigger korean sponsor is an impossibility tbh, but i would love to be wrong
