Just remind you, tankivac was still a thing back then.SOS couldn't shade on top of siege tank because ByuN just picked them up. Now its different story.

And that's the reason Byun has fallen this year, he must hope tanks can fly again.

I'll give him top 5 but top 3 by far? Definitely not. Also 2nd place plays herO who has arguably the best PvT in the world, that's not an amazing prospect for Maru either.
how the hell could anybody "aim" for second place... that implies loosing one of his matches on purpose, which is in reality no difference than match-fixing. I doubt ANY progamer would risk, being accused of matchfixing, just to get another opponent.

If a progamer unilaterally decides to lose a match, it is neither matchfixing nor illegal. In Starcraft, matchfixing is when multiple parties conspire to fix the outcome of a competitive match in order to profit financially. The reason it's illegal is because it involves contacting illegal gambling rings for personal gain.
Not to mention, if Maru or anyone else decides that he likes the other side of the bracket better, and secretly makes a few mistakes on purpose, how in the seven hells is somebody supposed to know? Matchfixing accusations are leveled when officials notice suspicious shifts in the betting lines, not as a result of player performance (which is ridiculously and unpredictably variable at best). Without any contact with anyone else, without any financial motive, it's completely impossible to produce evidence of wrongdoing.
Look at ByuN's performance in the Ro32, what Artosis called "the most indecisive thing he'd ever seen." Was ByuN accused of matchfixing? (officially that is, not by salty fans)

To be honest I think a lot of pros have intentionally lost games in group stages in order to get better opponents in the enxt round. It's risky, but can be very good to avoid teamkills/hard opponents. I mean if you are certain you can't beat X in the ro8, you may as well aim for 2nd in your ro16 group for be put somewhere else in the bracket
In certain group stages (the ones where everyone plays everone in the group for points and top 3 get out) it would be stupid for players not to lose certain matches in order to manipulate who else gets out/who they go up against. As long as a player is confident they can get out the group, they should try and help the weaker players also get out (to make the rest of the cup easier)

Really? I found this on the afreecatv website though:

Well, the wiki Ro.8 bracket is at first page of this thread, seems like someone can update it. I remember usually the upper half bracket will play first like wiki page shows, but maybe they changed it this time.
Also a fun fact, we could get a team kill final from either Jin Air, KT or SKT since there are two players from each team in different bracket. But I suppose Jin Air has already locked two Ro.4 spots, whereas KT and SKT have to fight again for the other two spots, just like Proleague playoffs According to the history, KT will rise to challenge Jin Air as usual, right?
