Hi all,
I'm interested to know, have you recently started to play again since watching IEM Katowice?
I haven't touched SC2 in ~2 years, but watching IEM Katowice really captured my interest. I've found that the few players I've matched with have also begun to play again since watching this awesome tournament production.
I notice also that there have been many viewers, with a majority (perhaps) of those being long-time lurkers(?). Hats off to IEM for hosting this tournament, they're doing a really great job imo. Make sure you turn off ad-block when watching to support!
I'm sure we all got tired of the meme-esque 'SC2 is dead' posts. Has Katowice encouraged you to pick up playing again? Are tournaments like these the key to encourage extended general interest in SC2?
[I suppose, this thread would also serve as a good place to collectively post and find returning players to play with - many of our old SC2 friends have undoubtably moved on]

I haven't played starcraft since HotS came out, but I've watched GSL/WCS until end 2015. In 2016 my interest was more in watching CSGO tournaments and I've only really watched the Blizzcon tournament.
IEM Katowice however, piqued my interest again. I don't remember being hyped for a SC2 tournament in a while but the combination of open bracket play, poolplay and a very good mix of foreigners/koreans has got me watching the full tourney once again. I feel my interest rising again, and I'm very happy with the new SSL announcements that came this week as well.
I don't think I'll start playing again soon, but this tournament for sure has done something to me that has been lost for a long time

I had stopped playing altogether (I didn't touch the game or watch a single stream for months) and I returned because of GSL. I think SC2 is not a passion you can let go off like that. It's an addiction not easily cured - fortunately
I'll be very happy to hear about it if IEM Katowice reignited some passions here.

Yea I too just started watching again. I picked up and played a little the overwhelming frustration of stupid little things in the game still exists though. So back to other games for me but ill probably finish watching IEM
|
I never exactly quit, just was my usual rarely playing self, but Katowice has had me playing more than I have in a very long time.
|
definitly planning to play some starcraft 2 again, loving the games so far (the ones i managed to watch anyway). Hoping to finish my other games quickly and dive back into sc2
|
Unfortunately not. Dont know why but I lost all interest in sc2 15 months ago and still nothing tt. Although i watched only couple of games.
|
Unfortunately for me, the desire to keep playing hasn't really been there (aside from the Nova campaign.) However, I've kept up diligently with all the tournaments since probably around 2013, and I've loved the foreign tournaments as well as the Korean.
I really liked 2016 in particular to see Neeb's storyline as he continually dominated in qualifiers only to fall in the tournaments. Then, I see his victory in KeSPA cup, and it was amazing. And then he fell off...

Watching liberators kill my interest in playing again every time. I still watch but will never play again.

I played random and have put in about 50 games since IEM started and the same problems that existed in the game still exist. ZvZ is still mass Muta stupidity, Widow mines are completely broken in ZvT, Liberators are broken in both ZvT and PvT, Mass reaper cyclone opening is the only thing that happens in TvT and its retarded. If you do manage to survive you die to doom drops. Adepts are still stupid in every possible way. PvP is probably the best mirror still but PvZ and PvT especially seem so difficult to play you want to put your hand through a fuckign window.
I remember entirely why I left this game. THe little nuances of the game are so unforgiving and so frustrating it makes you want to kill people.

If I can give you an advice, don't play 50 game in 2 days, it's pretty hard to not hate a game after playing this much. I know if I play more then 5-6 games a day I start to be frustrated and don't really enjoy it that much.

Oh I've stopped playing for a long while now, and I'm likely not going to for a while, but I still love watching. I haven't caught many of the offline quali, but the ones I managed to watch were very exciting.
Looking at the brackets, it looks like a good bunch of competitors, with some great foreigners in the lineup.
Can't wait to watch the rest!

I've been watching all the time since 2014, but I started playing again just a few weeks ago.

Had to quit just after LotV came out because university takes priority and completely forgot about Starcraft until recently. Katowice is definitely boosting my own interest in watching streams, even if I still don't have the time to play.
Interestingly, all the pros that were good when I quit (end of HotS) seemed to have vanished in 2016 but are coming back strong so it seems like no time has passed at all.

I remember entirely why I left this game. THe little nuances of the game are so unforgiving and so frustrating it makes you want to kill people. Just play your own game to avoid the things you don't enjoy. You don't have to play standard builds. Go for what you enjoy doing and try to make it work. In the end the matching algorithm will have you win and lose roughly equal times. Just accept SC2 can be frustrating, watch your replays everytime you lose and try to figure out what you did wrong - it's just impossible that you lost and there's nothing you could have improved to get better chances -, you'll inevitably get better. And even if the best you can do is not top notch, who cares as long as you're having fun ? So just have fun, do your best, accept your losses. And yeah, don't play such ridiculous amounts of games ^^. Once you're getting frustrated, just stop. Only play if you're having fun, not to make up for a loss or to get some kind of revenge.

I quit sc2 in 2013 to focus on university played dota 2 in my free time and now watching GSL and IEM reignited the passion in me to play sc2 again.

Ye!! I haven't played LotV at all since launch, just some campaign. Watched some IEM and I think the new units are really great. Really liking Liberators in TvP and the way Cyclones fire is just fun. Feel there are plenty of options now. Ravens are a thing!
And I find Katowice really great. The games are fun and the casting is good. Also, I'm older now and I get less frustated with ladder. I'm really enjoying it.
Watching some top korean streaming is something I missed. Only need Taeja now

I took nearly a year off and I'm back on this crack. Miss TL live report

watched iem katowice. It was definitely worth the time. It hasn't sparked my interest in playing again though. I think tasteless needs to calm it down a notch on stream. He makes his colleagues out to look like idiots sometimes which doesn't make the show look any better than it could. Whenever he casts it always seems like a battle for power over the casters. Keep that shit off camera.
