Group B of the Round of 16 featured three highly regarded Terrans, INnoVation, aLive and TY, as well as the first player to win both GSL and SSL, Classic. Classic went for a charge zealot heavy composition to close out game one after shutting down aLive's initial tank push. Classic won game two by expertly eliminating aLive's mines with stalkers and forcefields before shading into aLive's natural and crushing the remains of his army. TY and INnoVation were on even terms for much of game one, but a large drop from TY forced INnoVation into what proved to be a failed siege on TY's third. Game two started similarly. This time it was TY's liberators breaking INnoVation’s siege line while TY sniped his third that gave TY the match and the series. TY’s high liberator count allowed his bio to overwhelm Classic's gateway/immortal composition, giving him a lead in the winner’s match. The next two games were long, drawn out affairs. Classic's late game armies of tempests, colossi and high templar came out on top, though, sending him into the quarterfinals.
aLive took the lead with proxied reapers, but INnoVation evened the series after a siege on aLive's natural bought him a huge worker advantage. Despite INnoVation gaining the lead after an ineffective doom drop from aLive, supply was even for much of game three. Both players frantically fought all over Frost, but it was aLive who got the better of it, eliminating INnoVation from the tournament. aLive and TY survived a basetrade in game one, with TY finally claiming victory when his marines surrounded aLive’s meager forces. Save for a botched doom drop, aLive completely dominated on Abyssal Reef. Down almost fifty supply in game three, aLive’s went for a doom drop, only for it to be caught out. Four dead full medivacs later and TY became the second player to move onto the Round of 8.
aLive’s final moment of the season.

That was a really sick group. Every series is worth watching.

Innovation was not playing well that day. He has himself to blame. aLive, on the other hand, played very well. Too bad, he faced TY. One mistake goes a long way.

TY vs aLive game 1 and TY vs Classic game 2 in particular were excellent.

I think that one hurts TY even more because it was a reverse sweep.

Classic really playing well expect him to get to ro4 as stats PvP is not good. Innovation just isn't that good in TvT. TY and alive were great but I think the better player did get through their game 1 was crazy at the end TY having mini bases all over great day of GSL.

Coudn't be more happy for Classic and TY - my favorites. It was about time for Classic to return to the highest GSL rounds. TY on the other hand and aLive made a brilliant TvT match, one of the 2017 best games for sure!!! aLive is still playing his best Starcraft in his carreer and I'm sorry he was in the TY's group, as someone said here - one mistake could cost you the whole game. Innovation played too bad for expectations of a Phenomenon. But to be honest, HotS belonged to him and Maru, but LotV belongs to TY and Byun.

ehhh I dunno. Inno and Maru were the kings of HotS I agree, but they can still murder anyone in LoTV. Inno is the 2nd or 3rd highest ranked KR player, and he's 90% chance gonna win SSL S1. And even though Maru isn't the best terran like he was in previous years, he's still doing better than byuN. ByuN really peaked in 2016 S2 (when there were less top performing players). I don't think he even makes it to blizzcon this year
