The first game between Leenock and Solar was turned on its head when Solar killed three of Leenock's four bases while Leenock transitioned to mutalisks. Leenock recovered, however, closing things out with roaches. Game two featured mutalisks on both sides, with Leenock’s vipers and infestors putting him on top.
Despite losing a pair of thors early in game one, ByuN completely controlled both games of his series against Patience. Patience appeared to gain a lead on multiple occasions, but ByuN always struck back with a superior bio army, putting the final nail in the coffin at Patience's third on Newkirk Precinct.
Leenock looked to be holding strong in game one of the winners' match, but ByuN’s attack on Leenock's isolated gold base, while a drop hit the main, pried the Zerg apart. Game two looked to be going Leenock's way, but an overly ambitious baneling bust backfired, putting him in a hole he couldn't dig himself out off. ByuN's 2-0 victory made him the first player to reach the Round of 8.
Solar killed probes in the double digits with a drop and run by early in game one only to die to Patience's follow up adept timing anyway. Solar again took a lead early on Odyssey thanks to a gold base, but was never able to close things out. Roaches, zerglings and banelings died in scores to Patience's immortals, archons and storms. Eventually Solar ran out of steam, giving the match to Patience.
After a dynamic first two games which saw Patience and Leenock go back and forth with zerglings, banelings, adepts, hydralisks and immortals, Ascension to Aiur turned into the playground for another unit; brood lords. Patience did everything he could to maneuver around nearly twenty of them, but he was fighting a losing battle. Three void rays stashed in his main proved a feeble last line of defense as Leenock advanced in second place.
