With the Round of 8 almost set, TY, Patience, Stats and Hurricane met to finalize the quarterfinals of the final season of the 2017 edition of GSL.
Stats fell behind to Hurricane's dual pronged dark templar harassment and frontal push on his fourth, but managed to salvage a victory after early stalker pressure bought him a lead in game two and a superior carrier count did the same in a long game three.
After a slow build up, TY claimed victory in game one with a bio/tank/viking push that overran Patience's blink/colossi army at his third. He wasted no time on Abyssal Reef, however, as his siege killed 17 probes, eliciting a quick concession.
Stats tested TY in a long first game, but TY’s brood of liberators won him the day after sniping two of Stats' bases. Game two was far more academic as TY did early damage with a siege on Stats' third. The follow up bio/lib push was simply too much for the Splyce Protoss to handle.
Hurricane’s dark templar play did not do overwhelming damage against Patience, but it set up a big fight mid map which he won handily. Patience went for the faster third in game two, but Hurricane punished the investment with a Blink attack that killed 16 workers, sending him to the final match.
Hurricane went up 1-0 after depleting Stats' interceptor count in a carrier vs carrier fight, only for Stats to win a similar skytoss battle on Mech Depot. Stats took the series after his two base, low econ timing crippled Hurricane, setting up a match-up against Rogue in the Round of 8.

Hurricane came so close

Sad that there's no soO but the ro8 looks really stacked

Surprisingly good performance by Hurricane! It was especially nice to finally see some pro pull of the Warp Prism Building trick, and even better to see it work! Lets hope he can make it to the Ro8 next time!
Also, really happy to see Stats advance, hes the most solid toss at the moment, maybe he can win again?

Stats really didn't seem like himself on Friday. I hope he does better in the Ro8.

In game 1 against Stats he used his warp prism to create a power field in which he could then construct a proxy dark shrine without needing to build a pylon first. He then flew away with the prism while the dark shrine continued to build itself and provide DT tech once finished. The DTs then won him game 1. Here is the moment when it happenend. He also did it again in one of the other matches (cant just remember which it was) but failed to do game-ending damage this time.

There's been quite a few pro games involving the warp prism dark shrine trick. Its just not usually worthwhile to get a robo and prism out before going for DTs, due to the already long build time (I think)

He has not been himself for the last month or so. Every game I watch I see clear deterioration of skills from how he used to play months ago in every aspect including decision making. When I expressed this concern people said how he is at the 1st place in primer league but that's the result over months. Even in games he wins he is not playing adequately at all. I knew it wouldn't be easy for him to defeat Maru in his current state.
I am seeing Dear in him. It's pity how many SC2 players can't hold a top form for more than couple months at best, since that means we are not seeing the best players at the moment in Blizzcon.

Yeah, but he is still brilliant.
With Stats it's really weird though, even in ssl where he is winning a lot it's almost always a close 2-1 series. Strategically he just doesn't seem to be on top and the completely standard builds aren't Protoss favored as well.
It's really hard to pinpoint why he is not playing as well as he did some month ago, probably just mechanics and bad preparation.

Stats has been a top two Protoss for a year and a half now. I don't know what version of Starcraft you're watching, but he's been pretty elite for a long time.

Which doesn't contradict anything I said nor what I disagree with.
Stats is the top protoss if you take whole year into consideration. Despite that fact, for the last month or longer he has been playing far worse than how he used to play months ago.
