Hey guys, a weird issue has cropped up and I was hoping someone could shed some light on it. You know the green selection circle below each unit or building? I'm suddenly missing it. Yesterday, it was there and today, it's gone. I have not changed any settings, either in-game or with the operating system/graphics card.
Any idea? It's just the selection circle. Everything else is fine. If it's some issue with the graphics card, it wouldn't be specific like this, would it? There isn't even a setting to toggle on/off this selection circle. It's default. Please help me cause I can't play the game optimally without it.
[Edit: So when I lift up a CC, the circle appears. Flying units also have them. What's going on?]
Thank you!

I'm having the same issue. . I just patched, qued for a ladder game and quit right away because of this issue.

I made a post on blizzard tech support forums about it. I'll keep you updated.

Thank you
I did suspect that it might have something to do with the recent patch, but since it was working fine just yesterday, I wasn't entirely sure. I am doing a complete reinstall right now to see if that helps at all.

Ya everything was working fine for me pre-patch. As soon as I patched today I have the issue. This issue makes it extremely difficult to play. Let me know if a full reinstall helps.

Reinstall did nada. Can't play before this is fixed. Hope it can be fixed.

Damn. This is ridiculous. If it's not one thing with blizzard's management of this game series, it's another.

Let's make a completely useless patch. Wait, habe it break something randomly!!
|
Well, I gave in and played some games and found that I got these selection circles back once, then never again. Map was Arctic Gates 2v2. This is all sorts of fucked up.
|
Screenshots?! seems like a simple thing to post. Played some co op games and havent noticed any problems yet or maybe i didnt notice em?
|
OK, here are some screens of what's happening. The first two show the absence and then the appearance of the box for ground and air structures.
Now, I think I figured out what's happening. In the third and fourth screens, you'll see that I made depots at the top of a ramp. In this position, a small portion of the green circle is visible on the ramp side of where the depots were made. The selection boxes are there, but it's like the structures and units are sunk just a wee bit too far into the ground, or the ground is raised just enough to hide the boxes. Is there a way to adjust the relative position of the unit and structures to the ground? Better yet, maybe I should post this to the Blizzard Tech support forum? This is so annoying.

its still less useless than your comments

blizzard still has yet to respond at all. I swear to god this company has the worst support. Any time i've had an issue with LoL or MTGO the customer support team has gotten back to me within 2-4 hours. Blizzard hasn't even acknowledged the issue lol. What a joke.

Definitely less than this one of yours

The difference between scenario 1: Player: I have a problem. Company: *fixes it with a minor patch after a few days* and scenario 2: Player: I have a problem. Company: Okay. We will look into it. *fixes it in a week*
is that players feel better with scenario 2 since they have been acknowledged, even if the problem is ther for a longer period of time. The acknowledgement is important. Without it the impression the player gets is that the company hasn't read the feedback, or worse, ignores the feedback. It is a small gesture that means a lot.

I went through lots of the support posts in the technical support forum on b.net. It's sometimes taken up to 3 months for a blizzard support representative to even make a post to an issue that many users were experiencing. Frankly, I feel like this is completely unacceptable to consumers of their products. Blizzard used to be the company that set the standards for online multiplayer games. Nowadays Blizzard doesn't even have standards lol.

heh, another new patch, same bug still present. SDFJHSKDJFHKSDJHFKJSDHFKJSHDF

Sounds like its a graphical issue as most of my friends have no problems with it. I see them normally as well, no problems at all, maybe you are running some hybrid settings or smth similar that causes the problem?

I'm running the same settings as I was running before patch 4.0/4.1.. Everything was working fine before these 2 patches. Other users are experiencing the same issue(they've chimed in on the blizzard thread i've created that blizzard still has yet to respond to) and have tried even tried full reinstalls and repairing the client. Still no fix.

Is it really that hard to keep a working backup of the previous version and revert when a patch vauses an issue? In particular when the patch brings nothing if substance and thus reverting doesn't matter?

1. Yes we all know you don't care about this particular patch, but the world doesn't revolve around you. 2. Reverting everything means having to have everyone re-update everything later. Also you can't just schedule downtime at a whim, so might as well fix the issue before the next scheduled update.

Do you have a newish graphics card? Cause mine is fairly outdated (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT). Just wondering if it's older cards that are being affected, although we wouldn't know for sure with a sample size of three. Anyways, just curious.

Pd: I can see the green circle in another modes.. but not in 1v1...lol
Same question for you riter.

I have an ATI radeon 4200 HD. I run sc2 on lowest. Never ever had any issues.

I have the same problem.
Win 7/ 64 bit, ATI Radio 4200 HD. Worked fine before the update about 4 or 6 days ago. Since then the green selection circle does not appear. Impossible to play well without that. (I once sent a fleet of 1 drop ships to position for attack). Only later did I realize only one was selected.
Reported as bug to Blizzard with screenshot 2 days ago. No response yet.
Also asked question on StackExchange

Blizzard responded to ReachTheSky's post on the SC2 Technical Support Forum. They think it might be related to do with the flickering issue with AMD Crossfire. They suggested a few things to try but riter reports no success.

Their support is a joke. Worst quality support i've seen in an online game where online gaming is the standard.

Just to test things, have you tried selecting units in different areas (ramps, hills, high. mid. and low ground, etc.) or playing on different maps? I noticed for some players the selection indicator seems to appear "below" the map textures in certain areas but not others, and for other players they apparently don't show up at all (even for air units).
*Edit: And if anyone is using hybrid/wonky settings, what are they set to out of curiosity?
Also, they're obviously aware of and looking for the problem and the solution, and being negative all over this and the Blizz forums doesn't do anything for anybody (except validate other people who are also looking to be negative).

I'm experiencing the same issues the OP is experiencing. All of my graphics settings are on low.
I'm not supposed to be negative about this? I'm not supposed to talk about the crap quality of support blizzard offers? Let's get one thing straight. That is a completely arbitrary thing to do and speaks from a perspective of authority. You do not get to decide how others carry themselves and guess what, if you don't like something that you perceive as "negativity" then don't read it. No one is forcing you to.
Why are we making a big deal out of this? Because blizzard neglects to act with a sense of urgency when dealing with issues. If we don't make a big deal about these issues and put pressure on them, they'll put it on the back burner even more thinking it's not a priority or important. So yes, It's important to put these issues out in the open and voice them on their forums and any platform that their representatives frequent.

@ReachTheSky It's ok to be upset about this issue. But it's almost spamming to have almost the half of your posts in a non-blizzard thread about how extremely bad blizzard's support is. Go ahead and open a thread as a place for ranting about the badness of blizz support. But here it's really not helpful.
