With the recent $25,000 sOs jumped over half a million USD earned in SC2 bar. After MC he is second player to do so - he also overtook MC as top SC2 earner of all time.
This also makes him 113th player of all time by earnings.
For those interested - both Flash and Jaedong are top Starcraft earners with Jaedong slightly higher combined earnings and Flash being top SC:BW earner by far.
First off, congrats to sOs for this historic achievement. I know he has made his family extremely proud, not only realizing his childhood dream, but also being compensated for it financially.
Secondly I was quite happy to see that Snute is currently the highest earning foreigner. This guy works as hard if not harder than almost everyone else - yet he seems to be the hardest on himself. I hope he will one day learn to be proud of his accomplishments, even when he fails to place as high as he hopes in tournaments etc. Being motivated to keep improving and working diligently are of course essential to maintaining competitive top form, but there is always a balance, and beating ones self up over ones "Failings" is not the most healthy way to go about motivating ones self.

Edit : Showtime is German and not Polish
Aligulac probably just didn't update recent results
They did. No one ever earned 500K on aligulac. MC is n°1 with 495K $$ and sOs's earnings include the IEM money
Earnings isn't exactly a primary focus for aligulac, results are more important. I would imagine at some point someone forgot to enter the earnings for a specific result and that's it. Probably more than a single time if I had to guess.

If we count Afreeca balloons from spon matches, Flash has probably made millions.

It's just prize pool alone from tourneys. It doesn't take into account salaries as well (perhaps earnerer is not the best term because of that).

If you're joking that I mislabeled Showtime than fair enough. If you're asking seriously then the answer is - it isn't. Poland just has three players at the top (well Mana is no longer top player but he earned quite a bit). The 4th player - Tefel - is a lot lower.
I never understood this fascination with (prize) money.
Obviously it's very important to the players themselves, but why do the fans care? It's not like they are getting a cut or something. What does it matter to them whether their favorite player won 10k or 100k?
More prize money in the scene as a whole is important, because it's a useful metric of how healthy/sustainable the scene is. But more prize money for this specific player or that specific player.........who cares?

Just another metric to look at in order to gauge a player's career success. Of course, there's always a lot of caveats with prize pools, since more $$$ doesn't always mean more prestigious tournaments. Back in 2011, MLG champions only won $5K - a laughable amount for a premier tournament nowadays.

I think a lot of us fantasize and look up to those players, and its kinda tough to see people at the top of our favorite game making money.
Also, its not just those people at the top, I'd want my favorite player to make enough prize money for a sustainable career. Keep in mind Scarlett wanted to pursue a Dota 2 career just 3 years ago, I'd have to imagine part of the reason would be how SC2 wasn't that lucrative for her.
prizemoneys are not really meaningful at all. It would be if everyone would live in USA (in that case). Stephano won most of it in 2011 - 2012, in a time that was $1 = 0,70€. ($1= 0,90€ since 2015) In other words. HuK and Stephano won big checks in the worst time/timing financially. Did they both have their prime time 4 years later, they would have 50% more money (in € for Stephano and CAD for HuK). Look Blizzcon 2011 and 2015 2011: $100,000 = 72,000€ ------ 2015: $100,000 = 91,000€. Now you can earn 250,000 for winning one tournament (~50,000€ difference between 2011 and 2015), that difference make all "top-earner lists" very meaningless for me. Same goes with Tennis and all other sports.
I wonder if a foreigner will ever break into the Top 10 for earnings... I guess only Snute, Nerchio, and Neeb have a realistic chance at that, but it's especially possible since most of the Top 10 earners are retired/ semi-retired anyway.
For me the by far most fascinating thing is TY 3rd. I did not even watch WESG, as far as I remember it wasn't the best run of tournaments ... yet it gave him two fucking hundred thousand bucks?!

Neeb has made almost all his money in the last 18 months. If he keeps it up he has a very good chance

Unless the sc2 as an esport project will be closed. It won't last forever. I'm a bit out of touch but I recall that the entertainment didn't validate prize mony in 2011/2012. It's not exactly better now and Blizzard won't pour money into ecosystem forever.

I'm sure they will for the foreseeable future. It's part of their brand and prestige. It's still a supported product, and unless they have another RTS ready to supplant SC2, I don't think they're going to drop it anytime soon.
1 Foreign Terran in the top 50 with like 5 Toss and Zerg.. This game has never reached the level of balance Starcraft 1 had. That's why none of my friends watch tournaments anymore. Actually, one of my friends watches still, he gets really high and claims every tournament was 'awesome'. Then I ask him to recall a single game and he can't. Glad these guys are making good money but the game itself is currently and has been a complete joke for over 2 years. Not balanced at all.
This is NOT a balance whine btw. These are facts. In addition to the earners list showing 1 foreign Terran in the top 50 highest earners.. there is this current ladder statistics
Terran currently down 5% win rate in every matchup at Grandmaster level. At the highest level, things should be balanced. There should never be a 5-10% win rate difference. It is quite obvious that Terran is not only predictable, but way harder to play than P and Z. This is why we see Foreign P's like Neeb and Z's like Scarlett taking games off koreans that would have flattened them 3-0 in Starcraft 1 or before LOTV. The only players in the world that can actually compete with the other races probably need to funnel their prize money into wrist and carpel tunnel surgeries. I can definitely see why Boxer retired.

The game might not be balanced at all levels of play, but the game since LotV offers way more opportunities to outplay your opponent. If we take Scarlett vs sOs game 4 as an example, sOs had no business winning that game, it was lost. This could be due to 'balance' or losing mind games or what have you, but where prior in earlier installments of the game sOs would simply lose, in LotV he was able to completely outskill Scarlett and take the game. With this being the case players of each race can really start to dominate if they raise the bar of level of play and that's what is really cool about LotV. In the end the players can overcome balance, but of course balance will always have a huge effect and not only at the highest level that some seem to suggest, but for all levels of play.

Sure, why would you care if your favorites players can make a good living out of his/her job, whether it's part or full time ? Also, why would you care if there is money to make the scene exist ? When there was no money in foreign SC-BW, this was a time of trully passionate players, not like nowadays. And it was so full of good players who could compete with the Kr scene where there was much more money : passion vs money, what a true life teaching match. Dude, really ?

I get your point for specific tournaments as the stakes are obviously higher when there's a lot of money involved but I also don't understand what's the point of those lists "who has made the most prize money" It's only a small part of their income so those lists are just completely meaningless imo.

I mean with the war chests funding substantial increases in prize money now and SC2 so far being the only esport associated with the Olympics i don't think its gonna go away any time soon.

Let's be honest the "Olympics" tournament was a joke. No crowd, almost no publicity... not sure what was even the point of this deal

Building blocks ? I think Scarlett's victory gave them more publicity than anyone expected anyway

Main stage was stomp vs. foreigners until clutch finals vs. Maru but qualifiers were brutal where TY took down best players there so he totally deserves it.
I'm more sad he tilted and threw hard his Blizzcon when he was up 2-0 vs. Rogue. Imagine him even winning that - even more unreal than Cinderella story, making so much not in 10± years of career but in single 2017.

I don't know how much you actually invested in watching the foreign vs Korean scene in Starcraft 1.. but there was maybe 3-5 players at a time over the course of decades that could 'compete' with koreans. And most of them just excelled at specific matchups that usually were PvT, TvT (honestly just like 2 players I can think of), and ZvT.

Then it's mainly story bulding. It adds to rivalried. It is definitely not a central point, maybe not even an important one. But it's definitely adding to stories. In that regard it's interesting.
