Led by hosts Sean 'Day[9] Plott, Geoff 'iNcontroL' Robinson, Nick 'Tasteless' Plott, and Dan 'Artosis' Stemkoski, the SC20 Anniversary Stream will take us on a storied journey encompassing tales of the past, laughs and competitions of the present, and hopes for the future. A massive variety of games will be played to celebrate the truly diverse ways that people have enjoyed StarCraft throughout the years, including team games, free-for-alls, 1v1, and of course... 2v2v2v2!
What would an anniversary celebration be were it not accompanied by the very people who helped shape StarCraft's history? We are thrilled to reveal that this celebratory broadcast will include a wealth of historic community figures such as IdrA, HuK, Livibee , Ret, TLO, NonY, LzGaMeR, PiG, White-Ra, and UpaTreeZelda!
The show begins on Friday, March 30th at 10:00 a.m. PDT on Twitch.tv/StarCraft
Wow cool! SC2 getting 20 years old? Very nice of Blizzard to make an event for SC2's 20th birthday coming up in 2030.
Seriously though, why oh why would you make Starcraft I's 20th anniversary event about SC2 pretty much? Seriously this shit is starting to annoy even BW people that aren't that opposed to SC2 like me.
Why invite a "Livibee" or a "HuK" or a "PiG" or a "UpaTreeZelda"? Why not invite some koreans that can speak english reasonably well, f.e. JD and Sea and have them play a Best-Of-Seven of seven legendary maps throughout BW history (Lost Temple, Gaia, Luna, Andromeda, FS, etc etc)
Why not invite people that stuck with BW after SC2? Like a Bonyth or an EonZerg or anyone that can talk about the history of BW after SC2?
Don't get me wrong, you can also invite one or two SC2 personalities since the forced switch of the korean pro scene had a severe impact on the current korean BW scene, but this feels like it is more about SC2 than about the "birthday child" aka Starcraft 1. And hence it feels like the people organizing this are shitting onto the legacy of BW, by just thinking about the BW history prior to SC2 and then it will probably be all about what happend in SC2. Sorry that feels like a betrayal to every BW fan that stuck around with BW after SC2. And you can only do it that often, before people start to feel very bugged about it. Now Incontrol can step into this topic and cry about people trying to bash anything ever organized... but seriously this shit is getting old and maybe, just maybe, you could consider asking current BW people about their oppinion how such an event could look like. I am sure NONE would have suggested inviting people like those mentioned above...
Also the fact that this was only posted on SC2 general forums, says pretty much everything...

To be fair, one can argue that they are celebrating the SC franchise as a whole and it's 20 years old then. I wouldn't infer much from the fact that this was posted in SCII general either. I do agree that they should've included more BW players/community figures etc... to truly balance the heavy amount of SCII personalities there are because as it stands, this does feel like it's more a Starcraft II event than anything else. Either way, watch if it's interesting or just don't if it's not your cup of tea ^^

The reason that these people make for the ideal "personalities" is precisely because they were around from StarCraft into StarCraft 2. It's a celebration of the history not just the last few years.
You act as if "sticking with Brood War" was some sort of grand sacrifice on your part. Let's be serious here you just kept playing an old game. That's fine, but they aren't handing out medals for it.

What they're doing is inviting the people who are or were popular because that's what makes sense.
The rest of that paragraph where you rage about shitting on BW is... not to be taken seriously be reasonable people.
But I could be wrong. I never followed the community that closely...

They were amateurs. There was no such thing as a full time foreign bw pro. Idra and Nony got a pro gaming license for kespa during their career. [Both invited, not by winning a courage tournament.] Ret came short in the semis of a courage iirc. White-ra was a talented player, but amateur aswell. Tastosis and day 9 never made it that far as players, they were not playing at the top level 2008- 2009ish anymore too. They got the most reputation from casting and events. They were strong players of course, but you wouldn't find them in the top 16 of a tournament for foreigners often.
Isn't this like the 3rd time they've had basically the same event with largely the same cast of people? They'll probably tell the same stories they told the previous times as well.

I hope you won't mind if I dispute you here a bit, as I do have a particular bit of experience here.
First, the idea that there "was no such thing" as a full-time foreign BW pro is false on all levels. While full-time pros in Korea were rare, even the very best players in the world have been foreigners (Grrr and to a lesser extent Elky).
I don't wish to get into an argument full of semantics, but let's agree for the sake of terminology that a "professional" is anyone who participates in a job for a reasonable amount of money.
By that definition, you're going to have to include Idra, NonY, ret, and White-Ra as pros. You say White-Ra was an amateur but by what conceivable measurement? He literally did pro gaming as a full-time job for half of a decade.
You're unfairly denigrating the quality of these players by establishing an arbitrary definition of the word professional. It would be like suggesting that someone in an office isn't a professional if they only earn 30k because the CEO is making millions of dollars a year.
As for "Tastosis" I'll give you that Tasteless was never at the level of the others. He was a very good American player, but wasn't at the level of Artosis or Day[9] as top Americans (still not pros).

I understand why Blizzard would go to the same well considering the viewership of the previous events and why you'd want to do it (getting paid to joke, reminisce and play Starcraft sounds like a lot of fun), but not all viewers like to see the same thing over and over again. If I want to watch the best of iNcontroL, I'll pull up old HSC vods like Rogue Zest on New Gettysburg at HSC XIV.

Hey this isn't the place for you two to have this particular argument. Everyone obviously has their own preferences in StarCraft events, and casters obviously feel shitty when someone's first response to an event is 'I don't like you.' Please go have this argument elsewhere.

A thread announcing an event isn't the place to have a discussion of the content of the event? Are you serious?

You can call it a discussion, but I see it as you and incontrol having a personal argument that just mucks up the forum. That's all I have to say about it, so don't pursue the topic any further.

To be frank some BW personality from Korea would be nice. Or some SC personality from Korea at all. E.g. Solar, that guy has awesome English. Or Parting. Or MC(not sure if he's not in the military now).
what i'd like to see//hear-from are the Korean live event promoters that turned SC1 esports from a grassroots passion into a money making machine.
the closest i have come to finding anything like that is in this CBC documentary. they provide a few details about what was done to turn live-event-Brood-War-esports into a money making machine.
Of course, Blizzard will never show anything like this because these live event promoters did not give any kind of licensing fee to them.

I might get banned for this but still I'm not going to silently eat this shit. This is freaking 20 years of Brood War. I don't understand why we're having SC2 steam. It's like pissing on the community. Thank you!

If Flash is the best player of everything, why did he never dominate SC2? (I'm not saying he's not the beast of SC1, would never say anything against this)

SC2 is a different game. Also Flash felt more comfortable with Protoss as far as I know.
Wow, I've been keeping mostly to liquiddota and other games forums and I had no idea there's so much negativity on SC2/BW boards. Makes me sad =(
I for one, am enjoying this content, maybe the games aren't too amazing but I like hearing Day[9] Tasteless Artosis and Incontrol commentate and small talk. Haven't heard them in years and it's really awesome. I got to see Huk, Idra, Ret, Nony again it's been a treat.
Why is there such a disproportionate amount of SC2 vs BW games? I don't mind watching SC2 games but we've only had 1 BW match so far and all the SC2 games have been non-serious matches (FFA/team games/handicapped matches etc.). Your panel/player list is filled with ex BW players, playing a few more BW matches wouldn't hurt..

This would be a huge issue because noted important piece of SC history UpAZeldaTree couldn't participate.
The lack of good games is definitely hurting the event imo. BW or SC2. High skilled serious 1v1 competition should definitely be part of a 20 year StarCraft celebration.
The fun games get boring quite fast and the whole event just gets carried be the amazing casters on the couch from that point on. But even for them it would be cool to have some real games to cast, there are only so many funny stories to tell.

Yeah it's always a slap in the face when they make it all about a game that hasn't even been out over a decade let alone are missing a big chunk of people who made the game it is today whether they invited them and they declined. It's pretty much dominated by Americans who have stuck with the industry whereas the other guys are long gone.
