Hello guys,
today i would like to start a discussion about the next major patch.
What are your hopes and wishes ? What would you like to see in the future ? (Or will there even be a next major patch :o ?)
Maybe this thread can give the SC2 team some inspiration or just general feedback.
I personally would like to see an improvement of social features. I think this is something that could improve the game even more and increase the player base in the long run.
My english is not the best, but i'll try to explain as good as i can.
Automated Tournaments
Automated tournaments could get some improvements. Currently they are basically like normal ladder with the exception that you have very long waiting times and the games itself have a time limit.
Those are 2 factors that really limit the enjoyment of playing this mode.
My suggestions
"Open lobby system"
Currently tournaments start every 2 hours, during that time you can sign up to play and then you have to wait until it starts. 2 hours is a lot of time for most people.
My suggestion is that tournaments work just like a lobby and the tournament immediatly starts when the lobby is full.
Also the lobby should be more restricted in terms of skill level. if you join as master, then the lobby should only contain people between m1 and m3.
With this system you could just join tournament more casually without having very long waiting times.
You just join and it creates a tournament lobby for your skill level, or if there's already an existing one you get placed in this one.
The lobby itself works in the background so you can play or do something else until the lobby is full (just like it currently works.)
If you win or lose, you get automatically placed in the next bracket accordingly and your next game starts as soon as your opponent has finished his game and drops into your bracket.
New addition to tournaments: Spectator mode
You can choose to join a tournament either as spectator or as players (or you can spectate a tournament until your own tournaments starts), so if you join as player you get placed normally according to your skill level like i mentioned above or you can join as spectator and select the skill level and lobby you would like to see.
So if you wanna spectate a tournament you can either join a specific player or you select the league.
This would allow community casters to just join tournaments and cast them live on twitch.
This would generate a lot of live gameplay content, during times when no professional tournament is going on so casters can cover content like this in the meantime.
Also new or weaker players could join GM or master tournaments to learn the game.
People could also chat with each other while spectating and discuss the games.
Obviously this mode could get abused by cheaters, but if you wanna play 100% competetive then you could still play normal ladder or maybe we could solve this with some delay etc...
Custom Tournament
Custom Tournament is a new mode for custom games.
So let's say an organisation or a clan wants to make a tournament/clanwar, then they could simply create a Tournament lobby ingame, place the players they want into the according brackets. Set a custom mappool or specific rule sets (maybe something like adding an addon to the lobby or play a different expansion level like wol or hots, how many wins you need to proceed like BO3 etc...) and then they could add the specators to the lobby, so casters or teammembers, friends etc.
every single specator could then join the match they wanna see and the game gets started manually when everyone's ready.
Stats like win loss etc would get updated automatically, so players would get placed in the bracket automatically as well.
it sounds pretty complicated, but i think in the long run this would make organizing tournaments a lot more easier. You could just do it ingame without needing 3rd party websites or having to always ask the players to update the scores etc.
New game mode
Most of you are probably familiar with peepmode.
Peepmode means you can join a map with a lot of other players and then 2 players get matched against each other and the other people spectate in the meantime.
Its a very funny mode.
Peepmode brings people together and opens up the core RTS experience of SC2 to more casual players, without being something completely different like CoOp mode.
I wish this kind of mode would be more accessible and get implemented as a real mode like 1v1 or teamgames.
it would work similar to my tournament suggestions. So you just join the mode, it matches you with people of similar skill or you make a private lobby with friends etc and then it works like normal peepmode, except that you can veto maps while playing so that the lobby isnt stuck on one map.
Multiplayer
In terms of the multiplayer balance/design i would like to see extreme unit interactions to be a bit reduced (liberator with range, disruptor, swarmhosts,... etc) and ressources per base a bit increased again and maybe starting workers reduced to 8 (today most people probably got used to 12 worker and prefer it, but hey... its my opinion ;p).
That's basically all i have in mind now. For CoOp i dont have too many ideas, because i dont play it that often. Maybe something like a CoOp "ladder" with rankings and stats would be interesting.
I would love to read your ideas for SC2. I'm sure there are a lot of interesting options to improve the game even more.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

buff roaches and remove carriers

first, i read a while ago that blizz dont look here, you have to post on their sc2 site, even though we do a much better job here than on their site.

Spectator mode/peep mode similar to dota 2 is long overdue, but from my understanding it is difficult and would require a lot of dedication from Blizzard.
It's weird to say it finally feels like Blizzard has finished the game and added/finished most things.

As far as i know they reach out to all kinds of community sources, like reddit, their forums and TL.
I wanted to post here, because i think the community here is more open to constructive discussion about the game and people who are active on TL are usually more dedicated to RTS and SC2.

Mutas, roaches, and SH can be recycled

They check everywhere.

I think there is a lot more if they want to, to improve the usability of Battle.net. But it doesn't seem like it is on Blizzard's agenda to do so. A good example is the Arcade. The navigation is awful and hard to use.
Your ideas are very good. I like the idea of supporting smaller/local tournaments with an online presence via Battle.net or even directly online.
Having these grassroots events are what kept SC1 alive and still thriving.

I hope there won't be another major patch.
edit: at least not balance related. I don't care about the rest.

i dont know blizzards intern plans. Maybe they have a new RTS in the pipeline and SC2 is just running out now... on life support. I dont know.
Implementing the changes i suggested is A LOT of work. But if they keep SC2 up as their RTS flagship, then i think changes like this would be worth it.

Remove Mothership, remove thor add goliath.

Really?
I think the most recent arcade patches made it pretty fantastic. It's a long way from the old BW/War3 UMS days but it's still pretty solid.

My personal wish is that they remove lategame cancer. Lurkers, mech and carriers made it ubearable for me. I really miss WoL ZvZ where cheese wasn't standard and mutas were a legit alternative way to play, and also HotS ZvT that was action packed the whole game.
Nowadays i just do some stupid 2 base openings in both matchups hoping to avoid the cancer, and try to be agressive in ZvP before they have storm.
Also they should remove GM from archon and put it on random team 2v2.

Erase from ladder Grandmaster League and MMR. Replace it with: Code B, Code A, Code S. Winrate system and other shit, but not MMR. Bring back Code A tournaments make it great again for 6k-6.4k players. With great prize pool from WCS and GSL. Raise prizepool for the new GSL code S and WCS code S. Tons of players, playing some good game again. Artosis and Rooooooterdam are back. World peace. Peace on Earth. The concept of an ideal state of happiness is working now. Oh, yes, baby. No more patches. World's largest jungles and we are explorers.
Also, buff terran and zerg, not protoss.
P.S. Replace cyclone with goliath.

I just want better graphics, obviously the game is a major success and I dont like that the developers instead of creating Starcraft 3 which would look better for the players and play similarly to Starcraft 2, just want to milk down existing game to maybe up to 12-15 years after the release.
I would wish an expansion/DLC of improved graphics, something like Ultra HD graphics pack.

I hope and wish there will be no major patch. Let us play the game already. P.s. also i wish they make a permanent mappool consisting of catalyst, overgrowth, frozen temple, coda, KSS, blackpink, abyssal and wirlwind. God that will be awesome.

I would wish an expansion/DLC of improved graphics, something like Ultra HD graphics pack. A complete graphics overhaul would be great. But it's not about 4k crap. What we need is a more balanced (in terms of lighting, textures etc) picture. It should be brighter, lighter, look more "cartoonish" and anime-like. Let's take LoL graphics as a standard. Ye, I can already hear you booing me, but take a deep breath and think about it. It's clear that blizzard made an awful stylistic choice with SC2. It looks outdated, ugly and always DARK (for some unkown reasons). Imagine how much more attractive will our game look like for newcomers with softer and lighter color pallet, more distinct unit models and terrain (w/o that excessive amout of details) etc.

Erase everything but MMR, id say.

Concerning graphics, I would like to see the the most realistic real life graphics overhaul that could possibly be accomplished, that is as realistic as possible instead of cartoonish. I want to see real marines and real tanks, living creatures so that it would make me feel as if I am in control of real life people and real zerg swarm that breaths and bleeds and moans etc.
